We called him for a last minute job because the brand new (and not cheap) bed we bought from the Restoration Hardware outlet wouldn't fit through our front door, so we needed to cut it in half (the entire thing was metal) and modify the frame such that we could screw it back together (welding it back together would ruin the finish on the bed). The majority of the welders we called either wouldn't touch the job, didn't know what to do, or wanted to charge obscene amounts of money to do the work. Edgar immediately offered to come by our house the next day to see what we could do. Upon arriving, Edgar helped us brainstorm the best way to tackle this unusual problem (he, like most welders, had never been faced with a challenge like this before). Rather than immediately cutting the bed, he offered to remove the railing to our front porch stairs for FREE to see if we could get the bed to fit without modifying it. After we spent over an hour trying to get the bed in and determined that it wouldn't, Edgar got to work devising a plan on how to best cut the bed and modify it so we could reassemble the frame once it was inside the bedroom. Long story short, he ended up staying until 10 pm (~5 hours total on the job, which we all thought was going to take no more than 2). He modified the bed, helped me get it inside AND helped me assemble the whole thing to make sure everything fit properly, which it did (AND LOOKS GREAT). Of course, he also reattached our front porch railing and made it look good as new. Even after all the extra time and work no one was expecting, he still wanted to charge me his original quote.
