The signature hole, number 7 is a par 3 and a beauty that offers a challenging island green. I played on a Wednesday at 810a at the Senior rate of $34 with cart. It was not busy at all with no one pushing our foursome from behind. The only downside is there is no bathroom on the front nine, though there is one on the back nine. No free water like they offer in Chester. The carts are almost new clean and in great condition and well maintained. On the front nine, holes 3 and 4 run along the Airport Rd and there is always some yahoo blowing the horn and yelling. Overall it's a well designed course that is long with several severe dog leg turns. In good condition considering it was built in 1935.

Compile that with the best driving range in Sumter, the friendly staff and the (almost ridicuously) low price for a round and/or low membership costs, I give it high overall marks. Non-military affiliated golfers can get a day pass from the gate or do a background check to get a limited access ID if they want to be a member. Additionally, the course is usually in very good shape and it is absolutely gorgeous in the spring. The course is well laid out with a diverse mix of dog-legs, varying lengths, elevation changes, and water hazards. It will give you a good challenge, especially played from the tips (610 yard par 5!). True, the greens aren't lethal fast and the carts don't have GPS in them, but think these are minor things in the grand scheme of golfing. I highly recommend it.

Oh no... Golf Village's par 3 course is cheap, but terrible. Therefore, it's actually expensive. I…read morepaid $20 to play the 9 holes twice, but the experience was so bad that I feel like I threw my money away. The tee boxes/mats were in really bad condition. Additionally, the placement of hole 3's tee box was incredibly confusing AND dangerous. Hole 3's tee box is in the direct line of those teeing off hole 9. As for the putting greens, oh my goodness, they were horrific. They were covered with so many golf ball-sized green broccoli head growths.. so my putts bounced and zigzagged. It was really annoying. Oh, and the hole cups were giant. In other words, you can't practice anything: no speed, distance, or control. You won't be leaving a better golfer at all. It's extra sad because this establishment has so much potential. Actually, I don't know. There's A LOT that needs fixing. :(
