Of all the places in the Cleveland area to go and enjoy an afternoon or evening chillaxin' with a picnic, a book, or a good friend or two, Edgewater Park is one of my favorites. Though I generally frequent other, closer parks (such as the Hinckley Reservation in Medina or another of Cleveland's fabulous Metroparks), I've been here on several occasions, and have enjoyed mass football randomness, relaxing on the rocks to watch the sunset, a circle of loving friends debriefing after the closing of a theatre production, pretending to be a pack of velociraptors (okay, just ignore that one)... ...there's just something about the aura there, something about being able to see city skyline from a pretty beach in the twilight, watching people swim and goof around, sitting and writing or reading or talking with someone you love. Of course, you do need to be wary of the occasional creepy person, and you wouldn't want to be there alone after dark. There are also times to swim and not to swim, though I never have, here. But overall, Edgewater can be a beautiful place to be. read more

Great park & beach! Lots of parking spots and lots of space. There's a huge grass area for picnics, small pier, but large space at the beach. There's activities for families, paddle board $20/hr, beach chairs & umbrellas $5 each, and cabana $10. There's a bar on top of the walk up restaurant, which both are inexpensive and convenient. Edgewater is such a gorgeous park with so much activity and open space. It is a very large park and very clean. There is a beach area, pavilions for events or picnicking, a pier, places for fishing, walking and bicycling paths, playgrounds for children, open fields where people had tents set up, grills and picnic tables. The place was hoping with people. The shores offer a gorgeous view of downtown Cleveland in the distance. There is a walking tunnel that passes under the road to take you up in to town. I wish I would have taken photos but I was living in the moment enjoying myself! read more

What can I say?!?! I Initially I had only planed on visiting this park once during my stay, I came 3 days in a row! It's beautiful!! You can walk the paths, fish on the pier, swim on the beaches, picnic, I mean so many options!! It's a MUST see if your in the area!! On my last day in town, I had a couple hours to spare so I packed up, and headed over. I laid a pic ic blanket out and sat under a tree and read a book! It's absolutely beautiful here! read more

Edgewater has changed since I was a little girl. I still remebered when you had to drive on the edge of the road when you was on the top part and had to look for parking. Today with all the events that go on down there, it has drawn a lot of people from everywhere and is a great place to just go and be stress free. Love this park, but...ATTENTION dog owners who use the K9 beach: STOP bringing your dog if it is IN ANY WAY aggressive. It's not fair to the rest of us. I was there on Sunday, and was approached by an unneutered chocolate lab mix who tried to attack my dog. The owner was way down the beach and the dog was not under his control. Unacceptable. PLEASE spay/neuter your pets. They are generally far more well behaved when they are fixed. read more

We went to Edgewater LIVE concert 8/2018 and was surprised at the Improvements at Edgewater Beach and park. Parking was free but it was a 15 minute walk to the beach. Metroparks added a new building with nice restrooms and a boardwalk. The beach was much cleaner and softer than it had been in 2016. What a wonderful park this is. It is shameful that the state does not spend a cent to plant a flower or add a restaurant. Even small cities located on any body of water invest in improving their waterfronts. But this review is my commendation for Edgewater and not a condemnation of government. This is in the city and perhaps those of you who live in the outlying burbs will find way too much diversity for your tastes. Other reviews support my claim as the writers focus on one aspect they find contrary to their WASP standards. They do not see the big picture. I have walked the path leading from the lot next to Perkins Beach down the slopes to the beaches of Edgewater with my collie. I often sit at a picnic table on the bluff overlooking the lake watching kites color the sky with downtown Cleveland looking like an island in the background. Sailboats and jet skis ride the waves as people fish from the pier. In winter I feel like I am in a Swedish black and white movie. The sky, the lake, and the beach are shades of gray. The bare trees look black against the snow and fog. I appreciate our climate in the spring where pale green plants begin to take over. Fall is yellow poplars growing from the sand. Summer means more people and more activities. As I sat eating my lunch or reading a book on a bench down by the concession stand I have known Cleveland. Recently I saw a group of Amish girls sitting on the rocks by the lake carrying plastic Igloo lunch coolers. I have seen African Americans set up for a day at the park. They bring tents, lounge chairs, and coolers and baskets filled with food they prepared in huge quantities. Old ladies and babies are at tables. The men are at the barbecue grates and the women are uncovering casseroles. I have seen Puerto Rican families pushing tables so their extended family can sit together with bowls and platters of food spread from one end of the table to the other. I have seen Vietnamese men catch fish they take to women who wait by woks heating on grills. Gay men have grilled steaks, tossed salads and eaten on a picnic table covered with a madras cloth. I also saw white women and their children carrying bags from fast food restaurants finding tables where they eat quickly and leave. Edgewater Park is a wonderful place. read more

Bust out them dusty flip flops and get ready for some fun under the sun in Edgewater Park! I love coming here on a warm spring/summer day to enjoy the rare Cleveland sun :) There is a ton of grass area for BBQs, picnics, outdoor sports, etc! There is also a little beach area with sand for your tanning pleasures and with volleyball nets! Parking is accessible and free. There are two food huts that sell nachos, hotdogs, sundaes, etc. Make sure you get yourself some Honey Hut ice cream! Hands down the absolute best view of the city. This park has really made a complete 180. The Cleveland Metroparks have put blood sweat and tears into making this park the place to be, and let me tell you, they have done a great job! I come to the park almost every day, whether it is in the morning or at night and I am always pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and constant maintenance that keeps the park safe and enjoyable. Edgewater Park is great in the summer. Even when the creep in girl's underpants trots around with his walking stick. I have recently followed in my father's footsteps and adopted the practice of lakeside meditation. It is wonderful to sit upon the high bluff and view the waves rolling in succession and watching them break. Also, the avian activities are more visible from high atop the cliff. The seagulls are graceful to watch in flight. Annoying when on the beach. It is nice to walk down to the water's edge on a cold and cloudy day and feel the energy and force. The sounds of wind and water are so soothing that it acts as noise cancelling element and drowns out all thought and reminders of daily living. This is where I come to be one with nature. I moved very close in proximity because of this. When I drive towards downtown on Route 2 at night and look to the left, it seems like Lake Erie is the edge of the world. When one gazes into the water it is pure blackness. Edgewater Park is one of my favorite places in Cleveland. read more

Are you a fan of Sun, Surf, Sand, or Wind? If so you'll love Edgewater! After spending a summer of running, walking, lounging, and enjoying this park I can safely say that I'd recommend it to anyone. Ignore the haters who say it's gross, not safe, and a dangerous place. Sure it might be those things at night.. but really what are you doing at the park after dark anyway? There are two parts of the park, lower level which is has a ton of running trail for those people in better shape than I. On this level there is also green space great for flag football, kites, or frisbee. You'll also find the Cleveland "beach" on this level. Sure it's not the cleanest place, the sand might not feel that great, but it's all we've got so lets not be negative nancys.. k? Then you go up top, and find a bit more of a wooded park than the lower level. You can access this part from a walking path or driving up via lake avenue. This is where I run, shorter path so I feel more accomplished when I run, lots of grills for bbq, area to play any number of sports, and covered patios to use. I will say that I DO NOT recommend using the restrooms while you are here, they are nasty as... well crap. If those were renovated and kept up I'd give it a 5 star.. read more

This park is soooooo much better now that Metro Parks took over. They have definitely cleaned up the place. Before I wouldn't step foot on this beach it was dirty and disgusting. But wow! They did a fantastic job cleaning it up so far. I actually walked barefoot in the sand and didn't get stuck by any sharp objects. We came down here on the second Happy Hour Thursday Concerts that they're doing for the summer. It was so much fun. And such a fantastic idea. Everyone is there to have a great time. My only complaints about the happy hour are the parking (of course) it's quite a mess. And the number of food trucks available. Every truck had a line a mile long, hopefully they will add more food trucks for future happy hour events. When we got there I noticed that now a part of the beach (far end near upper Edgewater) is dedicated for dogs. I was so happy that there was finally a place I could bring my dog to swim legally. The only down side is that the dog beach is still really dirty. The entire dog beach is scattered with wood as well as sharp sticks, shells and rocks. Which makes it a little difficult to walk barefoot. It looks like they cleaned the other side of the beach and just dumped it on the dog beach. If they would clean this up, it would definitely improve the rating of this place. read more

Oh what a beautiful view! A great place to take the family to walk around and take a picture with the Cleveland sign. The park is well maintained with maintenance workers throughout the year. There are bathrooms located in the lower park and upper park. The upper park is where the picture spots are and the lower half is where the beach and paths are. There are a few exercise spots (pull up bars...etc). This is a great run if you are into that. During the summer you can grab a bite to eat at the stand, but it's closed during the winter. Definitely a place to check out if you are visiting Cleveland or want to get a great view of the city. read more

Although it is not a vacation destination, it's still a great place to relax for those of us who live in the city. I run around the park when the weather is nice and hang out on the beach (do not expect an ocean beach) every once in a while in the summer to catch some sun. The crowd is very diverse but I've never seen anyone that would make you feel threatened. Perfect place to watch the fireworks on the 4th and the annual Air Show! read more

In theory, this "beach" should be an oasis from the urban hustle and bustle of Cleaved land. First off, there is no hustle nor bustle. But, EW park (pronounced eewww...) is an interesting place to get robbed. Sorry, i meant get a tan. The eastern half of the park is definitely the best part. The pier is fun to walk out on. People are sometimes fishing there for some reason. I guess the sheephead is to die for! There is a marina nearby. And the concession stand offers culinary delights on par with a bus station. You do get a stupendous view of downtown. The beach itself is small, and recently outlawed dogs. LIke dog poop is the worst thing you can step in here. My dog used to like playing in the surf. But i guess some people across the lake in Canada complained about the barking. So don't take your dog. Now the shady western half of Edgewater. The sun does not shine here. It is thickly shrouded by trees. A playground that is almost always eerily empty adds to the desolate feel. The picnic shelters are dilapidated and creepy. Most definitely take a dog with you. For protection. Oh, and there's no drinking there either(ha!). I guess drug dealers don't like it when you order drunk. read more

This is a pretty nice park right on Lake Erie. Because it's along a lake and not an ocean, it doesn't truly have a beach, although the restroom- and picnic-location setups look very much like they're on a beach. When I lived in Cleveland, I spent a lot of time here. It can be kind of gross in the summer because of the bugs, but September is pretty nice. I actually came here a bunch of times in the dead of winter. It's really scary, especially when you get near the shore. Some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen are the barren trees covered in weird ice formations right along the shore of the lake in the middle of the winter. The ice is so weird. read more

Plenty of city scape photo opps, including a huge climb-able typeface of "Cleveland" that is mighty popular for family portraits (there was a line of families with their photographers awaiting their own turns on the Friday evening that we visited). One of my favorite parks in Cleveland. The views of the city are phenomenal and the breeze off of Lake Erie is surprisingly refreshing! I've been here numerous times for picnics and walking along the water. I hesitate to say that I've also waded into Lake Erie, since it's sort of the red headed step child of the Great Lakes, but I have and it was refreshing. Edgewater is also a great place to sneak a peek at the annual Cleveland Air Show that typically takes place on Labor Day weekend. read more

The park is beautiful but the beach is not my favorite for families. I took 4 kids ages 8 to 15 and I was a little embarrassed for them. There was a lot of people with personal stereos playing gangster rap (not the radio edit) and the girls asses were hanging out. Seriously, every girl's bathing suit was a two piece with either a near or total thong for the bottoms, no matter the size of the ass in them. Seriously...no matter the size. Also, my 8 year old daughter asked me if a skunk was on the beach. It wasn't a skunk. All that being said, if it was just my husband and I hanging out I think it would be a lot fun because there was definitely a bit of a beach party vibe. I will definitely not be going back with the kids tho. I prefer Headlands beach 10 to 1. read more

I like the fact that Edgewater Park exists, and that there is in fact a place where you can actually, like, SEE water. I went here once on a beautiful day, but I guess all the creeps were out that day too, as well as all the bird and dog crap. The Creeps & the Crap turned me off a little bit. I got stared at by mostly every man lurking around the parking lot, and by all the women in their lounge chairs not far from the parking lot. (And not in that "Hey, Mami" type of way...more like a "What the fuck are you doing here" type of way). I saw the beach in the distance, but didn't venture down there because I was generally disturbed. In fact while I was there I decided that I would call it "Sketchwater Park" in my mind. Well, now it's on Yelp too...oops. However, I know better than to have one negative experience and think that's all there is. i will return but I think I'm going to have to take backup. I fell in love with Edgewater Park this summer. It is the most interesting place because so many different people come there and can be themselves. I love to see all the different ethanticities and the clothes are beautiful and everyone is smiling and friendly. Everyone should experience the Drum Circles! So fun! So happy about the things the beach house has to offer . I got a quesadilla and pizza dippers . They were so good . I was so hungover and this sobered me right up . I am an island girl, devout sun-worshipper and self-professed beach snob and as it turns out I truly am a fan of Edgewater Park! The Good: The view from Edgewater park is hard to beat! Lovely Lakeshore Views with downtown skyline peaking through the background. We have visited twice to take advantage of the beach and for the Edgewater Live! event. Both times the park was clean and well maintained. There are ample paths for running, walking or biking. The park has wide spread of green space and open areas with a pier for fishing and and picnic benches throughout the park, great for families and gatherings. There is also a marina, but I don't know much about it. Though the park is great, our focal point was the beach! We wanted the sun on our face and and our feet in the sand! The beach, located on the far end of the park, boasts an ice cream shop w/ concession stand, restrooms with separate changing areas and showers as well as a pavilion with several rows of picnic tables. For the Edgewater Live! event, a large stage was set up just in front of the pavilion and vendors were lined up along the path in front and along side the concession stand. Additional porta-potties were brought in for the event. Surprisingly, despite the crowds they were very clean and well stocked with paper and they helped to alleviate the lines forming at the restrooms.All sorts of food trucks lined the road running along there perimeter of the beach offering a variety of foods and drinks. We got there well before the crowd and we were able to snag a good piece of real-estate shoreside...#win! A reggae band provided live music over a really good sound system that allowed you to enjoy the music from the water which I really enjoyed. Later that night as part of the Cinema by The Sea series we watched Indiana Jones played on a jumbo screen. It was a really great experience that I'm already looking forward to next year. The bad: I found a syringe in the sand...so...yeah. Swim shoes DEFINITELY recommended. Also there are three lifeguard stands at the beach but both times we went there weren't any lifeguards on duty, even though we were within the posted times for lifeguards. It is totally possible that they had made an announcement and I was just unaware, but there weren't any lifeguards and there weren't any for Edgewater Live! either. I checked the website before I came so I don't know what happened there. The Ugly: I think its only fair to share that I was born and raised in the Virgin Islands, a destination loved for its pristine beaches and crystal clear water so please attribute any blatant bias to my beach-spoiled Caribbean upbringing. That being said, If you're looking for crystal clear water, this ain't it! I'm not sure (but I'm sure someone will tell me) if lakes are supposed to be that sort of murky/brownish color but that's what you'll find here. I didn't care for the looks of the water once I got in. There was stuff in the water that would logically be native to a lake environment but there were some things floating around that caused me to side-eye. In the future I probably wouldn't get in any deeper than knee high. I'm not familiar with the past history of the park, though I have heard from locals that it wasn't a desirable place to visit. I'd say the metro parks really did a great job and the tide has turned. I had a great time at Edgewater Park and will definitely be back throughout the year. I recommend it for anyone looking for some outdoor fun and definitely check out Edgewater Live! next year if you can. read more

I know the Northeast Ohio area has the Metroparks (of which we should be pretty darn grateful- massive park systems are cool), but I have a special love for Edgewater. Not that special love that is dirty flavored that no one talks about...but more like on a day when the weather is just right, Edgewater is the best place to be in the city. There's something about the feeling of walking down that hill from the park to the beach that washes over you. It's a "Clevelandy" feeling. You're in a city, but there's still nature around you. Bigger cities miss that. And Edgewater is a reminder that there are cool places to go within city limits. Granted, yes, Edgewater has some of its sketchy moments as well, so use your noggin' if you want to do the exercise path at twilight. And no, I don't think I'd go swimming in the Lake there. Once I had a friend that supposedly went for a swim there after hours, got in trouble from the po-po's, and as he was getting out of the water apparently saw a rotten deer carcus in the water. i'm hoping that's a big ol' lie. and yeah, there are sometimes sketchy men hanging out by the bathrooms or others cars that i'd like to avoid. wait, this review was soooo not supposed to be slammin edgewater. i enjoy edgewater. i like sitting on the rocks and writing in my journal. i like the people flying kites in the field by the beach, i like how there's picnics always going on in the summer, and i just like it. people can complain about cleveland not effectively using their shoreline, but i think edgewater is pretty neat. ...and if they tear it up to put in a freeway, wayne brady is gonna have to cut a b*&@#. read more
