Very disorganized, over priced and it smells like a litter box inside.

I walked in shortly before closing to view their exhibit, "Land, Sea, and Sky" and I was quite pleased that I had chosen to do so. The curators are engaging, knowledgeable and easy to speak to. I found them quite amicable and easy to work with both before and after I decided to purchase a piece. I had a lot of questions about 1 piece in particular and ultimately I ended up contacting the artist to learn more about the provenance of the piece I was interested in. I ended up acquiring 1 piece from the gallery and I liked it so much that I have since purchased an additional 2 pieces from that series. I now own the full collection of Nina Weiss's "Waterways" series that were painted as part of Philadelphia's "Art in the Open" invitation only, judged event. Nina's pieces have been displayed all over the world and are held in many high value collections. You need to see one in person to view the depth, texture, and technique - I think they are fantastic! Nina got her undergrad from Tyler School of Art and Design, and a higher degree from RISD, hence the Philadelphia / Rhode Island connection. All 3 paintings from that series are now displayed in a prominent place in my home, where they bring me nostalgic joy as I reminisce on familiar scenes from my time spent traipsing about Philadelphia each and every day! Thanks to Nina and ArtProv for the great work you do. Art is what separates humans from Animals.

Beautiful glass pieces adorning the glass windows in beautiful shades, catching the light sometimes... just calling me in for a visit! I just love glass... We were getting dinner at Fellini's and drive by again. I had some time to kill so we went inside. I was not disappointed. A store filled, almost every crevice, with glass pieces. Mushrooms, mermaids, flowers, little animals, tiki glasses, etc... So much to look at. Sitting on shelves, hanging from the ceiling... The employee became very personable when I engaged her about my love of glass. She told the two 11 year olds I was with about a box in the back of the store they could each pick out a piece of free sea glass. They loved that! she gave me the owners business card alerting me that you can go to his studio and watch him make glass pretty much during daytime hours and not far from the gallery. Pretty cool! The prices- range from super affordable to pricey but it's glass and general handmade craftsmanship. Expected. I did buy a beautiful blue flower to replace one that had broken from an unstable shelf incident a few years ago for $20. I bought a small ceramic bowl that was from a local artist. Inside the bowl had an image of the RI State house inside (a gift.) Also each pre-teen got to pick a little glass figure that were $4 a piece. They loved this!

The store is heavily curated by the owner Nicole, who is also an artist herself, & it shows. It was an adventure, moving from display to display, always finding something new to look at & admire. It also smelled SPECTACULAR in the store thanks to a selection of gender-neutral scented items - soaps, perfumes, candles, body oils, etc. I was gift shopping for other people, but can't wait to go back to buy a treat for myself. I had my eyes on a "mezcal blanco" perfume roller. Nicole is a Providence local who creates upcycled tie ascots (hard to explain but beautiful to behold.) They are, in themselves, a masterclass in textile design. Shopping around this store was a total mood booster for me today. I can't wait to see what the future brings for Nicole & Asterfields.

Our space is a living collage—part shop, part sanctuary—where textures, color, and form come together in conversation. Each piece is chosen or created with intention, rooted in a belief that artistry belongs in everyday life. New to Asterfields is Nicole Deponte’s private studio gallery, open by appointment. This lush, light-filled space—tucked next to the shop—serves as the heart of her paintings, surrealist collage and mixed media practice. Nicole’s evolving body of work is displayed in our expansive front windows, bringing an ever-changing tableau of artwork and imagination to the street, and inviting passersby to experience creativity in its most organic form. Imagine, if you will, a light saber. Now shrink it, focus it, and make it a precision handheld device. Congratulations - in your mind's eye, you're now wielding a plasma cutter, which is a real tool you can learn to use and put to effective metal-working use after a workshop here - I did just that during a Weekend Welding Workshop and it was tough to wipe the grin off my face for quite a long time. While that might make for some of the coolest visual imagery to describe, the fact that metal grinders, MiG welders, age-old anvils, fine-gauge jewelry-making tools, ceramic works, and myriad other tools of the trade are waiting to be discovered and shared here is a great impetus to get people excited about the art and science of metal-working. The Yard recognized that and has worked hard over the years to forge the foundation, expand the awareness base, and reach out to the community - all experience levels, age ranges, and walks of life. The events here are a super draw for my family and me. The Halloween Iron Pour. The Ultimate Chef competition. The Steel Yard Cruise Night Car Show. I hear there have also been weddings here...which goes to show you don't need to be actively working metal to enjoy the Yard. That said, seeing some of the custom-chopped and augmented vehicles done on-site doesn't hurt one's appetite to grab some leathers and a visor, and get working. I received a request for donation to the Yard's efforts at the end of 2012 that moved to me action in a way that words hadn't called me to in some time. That was refreshing and invigorating; it was merely (at its essence) a request for support. And support we should. The Steel Yard is an anchor helping to revitalize an area of the city that needs it with its facility location; revitalizing a city that can use those services with its good public works, as with its creation of beautiful and utilitarian benches, garbage cans, and bike racks seen around town; revitalizing people's skill sets by providing constructive classes in a variety of disciplines at fair tuition costs, for multiple age groups; and mostly, revitalizing metal-working as a discipline that is useful, positive, artistic, and tending away from defunct and back toward common. For all of that, The Steel Yard deserves our support in keeping alive The Spark. Get involved and be about it - highest recommendation.

The woman who assisted me was such fun to chat with and made some recommendations based on my interests. Definitely more books here I plan to return for. They even have a small area out the door (in the center of the building) to sit and read if you have time, or can't wait to begin your new book. Seriously, I have passed this shop half a dozen times and didn't realize what I was missing until I read their write up in Rhode Island Monthly magazine. Very glad I did!
