It's in cute, little downtown Newtown, tucked away near Pat's Colonial Kitchen, a homey, breakfast brunch spot. They carry some ol'school candies like Fruit Stripe gum, Whatchamacallits(I had no idea they still made those), along with assorted chock's and candies by the pound..enough variety to make everyone happy. i'm regularly in Newtown, but this was the first time i stumbled upon this little sweet spot..if you have a craving and happen to be nearby then this spot is for you.

We wish them great success there! I mention its neighbor because that is the way I first noticed this shop set back from the street. I came out of Duck Sauce and walking on the covered front porch I noticed the new store and went in to have a look. I didn't know that homemade chocolate would taste so good after a good spicy Asian meal, but it did! In fact, I suggest that these owners talk to each other and start to cross market their goods. A little chocolate delivered with the lunch or dinner bill would be a great touch (and better than the Andes Mints). A discount coupon for a quality Chinese or Thai repast with the purchase of $10. worth of candy, would also be a hot commodity. Maybe they are already doing that, but I did not see it. Come talk to me. S/P is a veritable wonderland of sweets set in a well appointed comfortable setting. Made to look "country," it succeeds in taking you away from the world outside and dropping you into a childhood daydream. Hard not to smile and salivate when looking at the enormity of the collection here, and reminiscing about those candies you craved as a kid. Yes. It is a little decadent, but it is so innocent that no one will turn you in to the diet police.

There were a few times where I needed a break from the cafeteria at said hospitals. The distance, size and ambiance of Iron Hill was just right. Their beers have always been average to slightly above average. As far as small chains go Iron Hill will give you a good experience with beer and grub. On the first of three visits my sister and I enjoyed our pizzas. The Voodoo Chicken Pizza had a wonderful combo of flavors. If you love smoked gouda and lots of flavor, a sharable portion, nice char and bit of a sweet/spicy punch you'll enjoy it. My sister gave the Vodka Margherita pizza a thumbs up. The Philly Cheesesteak eggrolls were average, but both the horseradish and chili dipping sauces elevated the flavors. Second visit was a solo trip, I continued to enjoy their Ore House IPA - good brew with fruity/piney notes and a well balanced flavor profile. Not top tier but solid and very sessionable. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the crowd around me. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich was my lunch choice - provo, roasted red pepps, caramelized onions, arugula, pesto aioli & balsamic glaze on focaccia. The chicken was dry, but the rest of the sandwich was good. I kept thinking a switch to a juicy chicken thigh would make this sandwich worth the price. On my last and final trip I brought my son and we were happy to see they had a brunch menu. He tried the red velvet pancakes which were rich and very tasty. A big portion. We brought some home and my little guy devoured them. A win for the kids. I had the Hero Breakfast - eggs, bacon, pork roll, sourdough toast, biscuits and gravy, potatoes. My son picked on some of it. Again another big portion. Funny how sometimes the little things like sourdough toast going with the breakfast just made it that much more comforting. The gravy on the plate was peppery and very salty. Overall, I thought the brunch was good. The location was clean, staff was nice and the growler prices to go were very fair and reasonable. I bought a growler each of Ore House IPA and their 30 E. Street Stout to go and shared with family. I hope my next visit will be in better times, but for those three trips, the momentary distraction Iron Hill provided was helpful. Thanks guys.
