BUYER BEWARE Experience Feb/March of 2025 I do not recommend for EDJ Home Improvement for hire. The front man for this business is Mr. Eric Jones Sr. who is a also a Pastor and will make you feel at ease and promise timeliness and even a little extra here and there BUT once they get your money, it's a different story and the work is not quality work. This company will ask for half of your money up front as a down payment and will not deliver the work and the work that is done will not be of quality. If you complain, you will be chastised, spoken to unprofessionally and your money will already be spent so you have no recourse but to sue or take a loss. I am currently having to hire other contractors to complete work in my home because EDJ took almost half my insurance money and gave nothing but empty promises. He seemed to have went to work immediately after I had given him half of the money I had. He had a storage pod and a trash bin delivered with a few materials the next day. He sent workers to my home and they started the work. The quick action made me think he was on it, however, a month later that's about all the work they did. They did about 3 days' worth of work in 4 weeks. He initially said they HAD to be done within a month by March 31st (which is part of the reason they were hired) and they only had completed 20% of the work within 4 weeks. Over the course of the month, I had to ask Mr. Jones Sr about the budget because even though I had given him $9400 he then asked me for more and to pay him each week even though the work was not being done. He will tell you one thing then another. He told me he would only charge me what the insurance paid me (cost minus depreciation) and that he will recover the depreciation from the insurance at the end. After getting the 50% deposit, he invoiced me for another week's payment when he has done little work. I also found he was using the full cost (with depreciation) to base the deposit amount. He says one thing, then does the other thing. The second week, we had to meet after I told him I was uncomfortable giving him 60-70% of my budget and didn't see any more work being done, because he immediately will start sending you invoices. It's as if they don't have the overhead to for his company and are floating it with customer deposits (that's what I speculated after dealing with them). Since I had not been able to cash the other payment from the insurance yet, we came to an agreement of what work would be done that week with what had already been paid since I was not going to give him any more money. He first tried to tell me the deposit went to materials and some labor, but when I asked him to show me he had spent almost 10k worth of materials, then it's became another story. Additionally, the work was sloppy and not of quality. When I questioned him about gaps that I saw in the way they placed my drywall in my entry way ceiling, he talked to me very informally and offensively and told me he couldn't work on my home if he was going to be questioned. He talked to me condescendingly as if I was too dense to understand drywall and told me I just need to trust and respect him. He also sent me a picture pretending the area I was concerned about was fixed/replaced and it was a lie because I went to my house later after the worker and it had not been replaced. After this unprofessional and dishonest exchange and after we were close to the third week and almost no more work had been done since the first week, Mr. Jones apologized to me for his behavior, but the damage was already done. I didn't feel comfortable communicating with him or completing the project. It caused me a severe amount of stress because I had a deadline to be out the temp house. I asked for my money back and he told me he had already spent it and would not be giving it back. I know he did not spend all of it on materials or labor on my home and I was trapped with him. After trying to negotiate an agreement even though I felt very stressed and uncomfortable with him, he still kept double talking not doing what he said he would do so I told him I would have to get a lawyer and move on. Mr. Jones Sr. knew my kids and I had been displaced for 4 months already from dealing with two home floods and this was the second one. He said it would only be weeks to complete the work and now he has turned the time to complete my home into more months. I have since interviewed two other contractors to finish the work and they both told me they would have to take down the drywall work EDJ did because it was poorly done. Lastly, if you are a single woman - I highly recommend you pass. I've never encountered a more unprofessional company. I will not be recommending them to anyone needing handyman services. You can blame this bad review on Angel. He is not an acceptable representative of the company. EDIT: just to add more context, here they are acting extremely unprofessional on their own FB page and then trying to threaten me via DM. No, honey. Not today. Make up all the lies you want. An employee, Angel, cut me off this morning. I will admit, I flipped him off afterwards and called him a "fucking asshole," but then he caught up and laughed in my face. Don't get it twisted, I will call your business out if you drive like a madman and put my or my loved ones' lives in danger. They want to say that I called them a racist slur. I would and could never. They want to say they have a video of me. Okay, post it then. But they won't because it'll just show they are liars. I hate to do this review, because I want to keep Eric all to myself! He is very competent, easy to reach, has a very high communication level and trustworthy. Where can you find that in a handyman!?! Oh and did I mention he is inexpensive?? And he is more than a handyman, I can count on Eric to do all the upgrades needed on my home, investment properties and my client's properties. Bad communications and from experience always get more than three bids. If you're a widow or a single woman, buy your own lumber or fixing, because you'll have the receipts. If you're not a business person, make sure that you have someone in your family that will help you. From experience make sure that the company writes up a contract. Eric and his crew are just fantastic. I can completely count on him to do an excellent professional job and at very good rates. The reason I give this company only a one star is because the job was not completed as agreed between us on the the final day of the job. The ramp leading up to the deck and the hand railing needed a minimum of another coat of stain. It was late and I expected company that evening and I requested it to be done at a later date. Eric agreed. Then I had company from overseas for two months and I was gone a lot, then the rains came for two months. In June I gave Eric a reminder call , he told me to call him when I was ready. I started to call in earnest in July. He told me repeatedly to call back, when I called back he put me off again. When I started to get upset, a date was set. Of course he was a no show, when I called, his excuse was that he had an emergency at his church ( his other job is being a pastor), he told me he would call the following Monday at 11:00 am. Of course he did not, my call went straight to voice mail. He never called back. Never pick a company with old recommendations, get a minimum of three bids and don' t fall for a smooth talking man that in the end will not deliver. I paid good money for the jobs rendered but with my deck I was never satisfied, and he knew that. It looks spotty and uneven. Eric should have known what would be best for my deck, however he chose the path of least work. He also pointed out that the front step which was cracked needed to be repaired. After completion it looked bad and is now cracked again. His sons are working for him, they are polite and do what Dad says but you have to micro manage who wants to do that? read more

I felt it necessary to leave a review for Eric Jones and his services! Hands down THE BEST all around handyman, plumber, repairer etc. I have ever experienced. As a female single homeowner I often need help with repairs, understanding the root of the repairs and it's so hard to find someone who is honest and isn't going to take advantage of the fact that I have no clue how much things should cost. Well eric is honest, communicates well throughout the process and will interface for his clients with other parties involved, e.g. Neighbors who might be affected by damages, insurance providers etc. furthermore as a person, eric who by the way I found randomly on Craigslist, is a decent, hard working individual who I am humbled to know. Eric don't you ever stop doing what you do! I would go haywire trying to find someone to replace you and your excellent service! You will forever be marked on my phone as a favorites!! I wish I could go back and start over and I would definitely choose a different company. Eric Jones is dishonest and that is so sad because he is a pastor of a church. He did not finish the job and I have pleaded with him to do so and he has ignored me. He was supposed to install two attic vents, but never did although he kept telling me he had them. They did a sloppy job. They got paint on things they should not have because they were too lazy to use masking tape. They did not paint several areas they should have. They installed a fence and gate, but the gate drags on the ground and cannot be closed. He left numerous nails sticking out of the gate causing a safety hazard. Unfortunately, he used the cheapest wood he could. Although he charged $2,500 for the fence, he would not supply hardware for the gate. They caused an electrical problem and the porch light no longer works and he refuses to correct. They cut wires and left them hanging. They left a lot of trash. EDJ is not a good company to do business with unless you remain at the site and monitor them. The most important thing is do not trust him to keep his word to finish the job. Give him only 50% down and the remainder only when everything is completed to your satisfaction. I know that's the rule, but I believed him when he told me I could trust him to finish the job. read more
