We have used Anything Around the House since it opened in 2011. The company does anything you need to repair in or renovate your home. So far, the workers installed ceiling lights, and an outdoor fan, repaired our wood fence, plus built a new wood entry gate into our backyard. They installed a low-flow toilet, two garbage disposals, plus a second stair rail, and grab bars in my shower to keep me safe. The reason we consistently use the company is because the workers always arrive on time. They are efficient and know exactly what they're doing, are always friendly, and make sure they clean up afterward. Communication, both by phone and in person, is exceptional. Their prices are amazingly reasonable. They are honest about their estimates. For example, we asked that one side of our backyard fence be replaced. Servando, the owner, looked at it and told us it didn't need to be replaced. All that was needed was the replacement of posts, plus slats. We always receive a call after work has been completed to make sure we're happy with the result. I can't say anything negative about this company or its employees. In response to Servando's comments: While your painter was putting away his gear I examined the finished siding and immediately saw that the painted panel stuck out like a sore thumb because it had horizontal gashes in the panel and all the other panels didn't. When I gave your painter a check for all the work done, as I had promised Donna, I told him the panel was unacceptable. He said he would tell Donna as soon as he got back. I called Donna that day and she said she got the message and she would look at it the next morning which she did. Your statement that I didn't comment immediately is incorrect. You also did not say to me during your estimate inspection that a matching panel would be hard to get. The first crew you sent to survey the job indicated to me that they thought there would be a problem with the panel. Donna told me they didn't get the job because they didn't know that you had found a suitable panel. I also told in an email that if you had said to me that you couldn't match the panel that I would have not had you do the work. But you never said that. Donna sent a man to get a panel from McCoy's was done at my request because I saw a panel online that looked like it would work but the panel he brought me was no different that the one you installed. Servando, the owner, is a typical "salesman" and over promises and under delivers. Donna, the project manager, is very friendly and well-intended but seems to be stretched too thin. I had to follow up constantly via text and phone and there were too many issues to even describe here. Some problems were understandable but A LOT were avoidable with better communication and planning. When I questioned Donna about her workload she admitted she was working on 30 other projects at once which is insane. No one ever came to inspect the work of the numerous contractors in our home and we are still finding sloppy and incomplete work. They gave a reasonable estimate on each job, alerting me that if there were any extra parts needed, I would be informed before they proceeded. They arrive at the time they are scheduled. Tony was my technician installing a ceiling fan yesterday. He wore a mask and boot covers the whole time he was here. He ran into some difficulty with the job, causing him to spend more time than anticipated, but I wasn't charged for his extra time. Shoddy Estimates Mean Countless Add-On Adjustments Work was proficient. Delays were constant. Excuses were plentiful. The worst part was all the detail left off the owner's haphazard and vague estimate up front. The only detailed effort was from workers under strict orders to not do anything, no matter how tiny, that wasn't clearly spelled out in the estimate. Since the owner's estimate was so shoddy, the countless adjustments came rolling in - just to do the work intended all along, and the costs increased by thousands. It became pretty clear that adjustments are the moneymaker and vague estimates are deliberate. When I called the practice out on the second half of my home project, I was suddenly ghosted. Any potential customer best beware that semi-reasonable estimates up front are incomplete and quickly turn into over-priced jobs. We've hired AATH for a number of projects: repair a wooden fence post, build a new wood fence gate, build a screen e din patio, repair a storm and screen door, install a new storm door, install a new indoor stair railing, plus a safety grab bar in our tub. These projects were completed over a period of time since the company opened in 2009. The work is always done in a professional manner and with excellent results. Once a job is started, it's finished, unless parts need to be ordered or inclement weather prohibits travel. My husband and I ordered a patio door from this company last October (2021), it came in February, crew came out and it was the wrong door, which was not realized by the crew until they installed it! Called Donna and was told she was sorry and they would get the correct door. In July it came in-again, the wrong door. Crew installed it and left a huge mess with gaps and holes. Called Donna-yet again, she apologized and said she would get the correct door ordered. She said it would probably not come in until August or September. I have yet to hear from her again. We are so done with this company and are incredibly disappointed. It is now almost October and the communication has not been dealt with at all. Still have not received the door we ordered and paid for. We are going to eat the loss of the money we already paid them and just buy the door we wanted (again) and have a different company install it and fix this mess that was left. I have used Anything Around the House Home Repairs (owned and run by Servando Varela) for 2 jobs on my house. One small, one large. I needed a few small odd jobs done around the house. There used to be a local hardware store near my home that advertised for a handyman. I had used that in the past, so I called them again. Well, turns out they now had a different handyman -- Servando. No problem, the jobs are small so let's give it a whirl. Servando himself no longer does the actual labor (used to, but the business grew so now he's got a crew). This first job involved light construction so Ken, Trey, and Nolan came to do the work. What impressed us was not just things you'd expect, such as showing up on time, making appointments and sticking to them, and doing the job requested, but little bits of craftsmanship. Ken's a master carpenter and it showed in his work... little details here and there. He made a suggestion that we accepted and it turned out a better result than we originally sought... and no change in price. Lots of attention to detail, and heck... they cleaned up before they left. I know that seems like something that should just be done, but I've had contractors that didn't fully clean up before they left. So we were impressed by the small job that when we embarked on some larger home remodeling, we sought Servando out. Certainly we took bids from other folks, but either other contractors flaked, or they wouldn't do the whole job. That's one thing that really appealed to us about Anything Around the House Home Repairs -- they mean ANYTHING. We were getting carpet, wood floors, new baseboard trim, painting interior walls, painting kitchen cabinets, tile (both demolish some old and install some new), then lots of other little things to go along with this stuff. Never did Servando say "we can't do that", but a lot of other contractors said "I only do this and that"... which there's nothing wrong with, but it would have made coordination of work much more difficult, it would have taken longer for the project to complete, and well... there's something about a crew that's worked together for a long time towards getting a job well done. In the end was Servando the cheapest? No, but he wasn't exorbitantly expensive either. The estimates were reasonable and there was no "well... that's going to cost more now", snake oil, hidden stuff, or hitting you with things once the project was underway. But hey... you get what you pay for right? And we're happy with the results. So again, carpentry work, demolition, some plumbing work, electrical work, whatever... handled by Trey, Nolan, and Ken. Things came out well in this regard. Carpet, tile, and wood flooring handled by a store up in north Austin (salesman named Leo) and he had his own guys that handled the install of the carpet, wood, and tile. Paint was handled by two brothers, James and John. Why do I mention the crew? Because they're the guys actually doing the work. Everyone was very friendly, very professional. You could tell from how they worked that they all had many years of experience, and the took pride in doing the job right. One thing that really impressed my wife and me? How flexible and customer-oriented Servando and crew were. Originally we weren't going to paint our kitchen, but after we saw how much everything had to get torn down and what would take if we tried to paint the kitchen later? We changed our mind and asked for the kitchen to be repainted now. Servando's answer? "No problem. What color do you want to use?" We'd change our mind on something, we'd make requests, and never were we met with "Well.... that's going to be a problem" or an excuse or any sort of ill-reception. Any change was always well-received with a smile. Granted, more work means more money for them, but that's not a bad thing. Why shouldn't they welcome more work and more revenue? It's so odd when a contractor gets grumpy about a request for more work or a change that generates them more revenue... I never understood that. But the bottom line is, they are very customer oriented here at Anything Around the House Home Repairs. It was a pleasure to deal with them. How often can you say that about contractors? As for the end results, we're happy. I mean, my wife is happy with everything and if she's happy I'm happy. :-) Was there any downside? Sure, they're not perfect, but nothing was unreasonable (e.g. who knew the cabinets would soak up that much paint and they'd need more coats than originally planned?). They always worked to make things right. Good customer service, pride in workmanship, reasonable costs, reasonable time estimates, working to ensure the customer is pleased. This is how you run a business, if you want to to become a success. Two weeks ago, my house looked like crap. I had crumbling paint, trim and a front door that needed to be replaced, and gutters that needed to be put on my house. After having heard from a couple different contractors that they could do one thing or another thing but not all of the things I needed done, I contacted Anything Around The House. Bob K. came out to my house fifteen minutes before our appointment - the NEXT DAY (good luck finding someone to respond that quickly here in Austin - at least in my experience) and did an estimate. I waited about three days to find out the final financial damage and breathed a sigh of relief when I opened that email. These guys are so reasonably priced!! They worked a week straight painting and repairing various things around my place. I mostly dealt with the paint crew and Bob (although Servando, the owner, did call me on two separate occasions to explain some things to me) and they were all as unobtrusive as possible and they worked FAST. They cleaned up after themselves and were the nicest people you can imagine (especially Oscar, the head paint guy - he is so awesome!) One of the guys even showed up on Memorial Day to replace some weatherstripping. I am still waiting on the gutters because they were backordered, but I'm confident enough that I'll be just as happy with them as I am with the rest of the house that I'm going to go ahead and post this review. If you need something done quickly, by hard workers who know what they are doing and have amazing customer service skills, call these guys. I found AATH six months ago after no response from some of the higher rated handymen on yelp. I have now used them multiple times to repair holes in the drywall, clean up and repair of a flood due to a broken pipe, window repair, painting, outdoor trim replacement and paint,a door replacement and (as I type) replacement of a hot water heater. I truly appreciate Servando and the whole team. Bob and John are very fast with estimates and they stand by what they say. Nolan has been our primary "fix it guy" and he is courteous, a great communicator and clean. Work is done quickly and they let me know in advance what to expect in terms of timing. Some times things pop up that slow us down, but unless you built the house, you cannot be sure of what you will find when you dig under the covers. I didn't expect to have them come out as often as they have had to, but then again, such is life with an aging house! I'm sitting in my study watching the paint crew finish cleaning up after painting the newly-installed crown moulding in the portion of our downstairs that mysteriously didn't have any, and I am thinking that I can't really tell the difference between the original and the new stuff. It's that seamless. Servando runs a first-rate outfit, if this job is any indication. Everything went smoothly, from the initial consult to the scheduling to the on-time arrival of two crews (yes, there is an install crew and a painting crew). It helps that he comes highly recommended by one of our new go-to guys, Les Sherman (look for my review of Les' work as our Realtor elsewhere on Yelp). But referrals and actual quality of work done are sometimes two very different things. Based on the quality of the work done today, I am compiling a list of things we might want to do here that would remain undone were it up to me. In the end, I can't find anything even remotely negative to say. Disclaimer: we didn't get our repair done with these folks. My review is based on the estimate process. After a drain pipe got clogged and the AC drain pan overflowed, we ended up with some minor water damage on the ceiling of the guest bedroom. All we needed done was taping and floating the drywall, retexturing and painting. This was on a ~2ft x 4 inch section of ceiling. The guy who came out to do the estimate was on time (plus) but immediately started shilling for the company, giving me flyers and cards and assuring me that their customers were always happy with the work, had perfect reviews on yelp, etc. This, of course, kicked up a red flag for me, like used car salesman do. We got the estimate the same day and my jaw dropped. $195 for the main work and a whopping $480 for repainting the whole bedroom ceiling (it's a small room), since he was convinced the ceiling had probably faded and the paint wouldn't match (it did). For comparison, before we moved in we got our living room, kitchen, and two bedrooms professionally painted for $800. No freaking way were we going to pay over half that for a stupid ceiling. After guffawing over this for a good few days, we got our other estimate back - $150, admittedly not trying to paint the whole ceiling. So shop around. Based on the reviews here, I was expecting competitive pricing, but we got a laughable estimate. I suspect that, despite their tagline, they really don't want to take jobs that are "too small". read more

Anything Around The House has been the best handyman service we've used over the last eight years for our house. Everyone involved in the process was both timely and friendly. This includes Bob K. when he gave us our estimate and checked on the work during the repair, the owner Servando when he called to check on the work, both sets of workers who did the repairs, as well as the office manager that took my call and scheduled Bob's estimate. We've had friendly crews before but none have ever showed up every time at the time they said they would be here. Some other companies have even not showed up at all on the day scheduled! Part of our garage ceiling had collapsed. Bob came out and did the estimate investigation. Their estimate was up to 1/3 the price of a larger competitor (this was the factor that had us give them a shot at the job). The first duo came out and tore out the remaining ceiling and insulation. This was a nasty job during one of the hottest weeks we've had this summer. It was super nasty work and they never once acted like it was the least uncomfortable. Next, the second crew came out and put in the new ceiling, again in stifling heat with out a complaint. Finally, the original crew came back and replaced the moulding and put up our new light fixture. The work looks great! Throughout the three day process, Bob and Servando called or came by to make sure all was going well. These guys were a real bargain. We have used Servando and his crew at Anything Around the House for all our remodeling work. They are very easy to work with because they really care about doing their best when working in your home. Each group that entered our home cleaned up after their work was completed. The office staff were always helpful and responsive. Over the past 2 + years they have remodeled our guest bathroom, kitchen/dining floors, kitchen counter and backsplash, kitchen ceiling with newly installed recessed lighting. They also replaced siding on one side of our home and replaced ceiling in garage. They then replaced all of our carpet (except for Master Bathroom) with new laminate flooring. The last remodel job was to our Master Bathroom. They retiled the floor, installed new cabinet/vanity, removed bathtub and installed their specially prepared and guaranteed walk-in shower with frameless glass enclosure with door. Gabriel is their Tile Specialist and he is outstanding at his trade! I mentioned Gabriel because he really stood out from the rest and in my opinion was the top specialist. However, all the workers were very friendly and courteous! Every worker that entered our home was professional and skilled at their trade! Servando does a great job at giving you options during the remodel. He is the owner and he has done an outstanding job selecting remodeling workers that care about the work they perform! Nolan, is the site foreman and he is really good at keeping the owner updated during the time spent at the house. He is also the one who completes the "detail" work that includes connecting plumbing, installing faucets, and ensuring all work is done right. He is also the go-between man to ask general questions about the work schedule. If you are looking for a handyman type company for smaller jobs, don't waste your time. I had several smaller jobs around the house that I wanted to address. From the website marketing to the person who visited my home to prepare a quote, I was led to believe smaller jobs were part of their business model and that they could do smaller jobs separately. In fact, when I received the quote and was ready to book the work, they told me they would not be able to handle my business unless I did more than the job that I told the estimator would be my first priority. They may be very good at remodeling. I can't speak to that. I do know I feel like I was misled and my time wasted. As a busy professional, that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. YMMV. read more

I recently discovered AATH and had them come out to repair some siding on my newly purchased home. Shane did an outstanding job and was very courteous. I was, however, very displeased with the estimation process and the final price. I will not name the particular estimator that I worked with because it is irrelevant and would be disrespectful. The estimator came out to my house on time and was initially very friendly. We went around the house together and went over the work that I wanted to have an estimate on. It took much longer than I expected to get the estimate (over a week) and when I received it, the prices were extremely high. In order to save some money, I let Servando know that I only wanted a few things listed on the estimate done. As mentioned above, Shane came out and did a great job on the repairs. Since my first experience was favorable, I decided to have another estimate done on some exterior painting a couple weeks later. The estimator came out and looked over the work that needed to be done. I did not receive the estimate for over a week, so I decided to make up for lost time and take care of some of the painting myself. During this process, the estimator called me with questions about the work I needed done. I basically had to explain everything to them again. This was a bit frustrating since the estimator took pictures and notes during our initial run-through. While on the phone, I mentioned that a small portion of the work no longer needed to be done since I took care of it because of the long turnaround time for the estimate. The estimator was clearly annoyed by this and sent the following in my estimate email: "The 1155.00 cost to do these repairs will remain the same as long as the scope of the work does not increase and will also remain the same if the scope of work decreases." So I was basically locked in to an incredibly high price (just to paint roughly 150 sqft of siding with paint that I already purchased) and they were unwilling to work with me if I wanted to schedule work for anything less than that. I find this practice completely unprofessional and will be going elsewhere to get the work done. read more

This review isn't about the work, but their estimator process. From the stuff I've seen them do in the neighborhood, it seems that they do great work. For that reason, I contacted them to get rid of my ugly linoleum and uglier sink cabinet that was in my master bathroom. Now, I live in an old house so my "master bathroom" is about 30 - 40 square feet. I only needed about 20 sq ft tile done. I scheduled the estimation, which is free (definitely nice) and the estimator promptly came. I showed the estimator the tile and what work needed to be done and he said he would get back to me with a quote. I know that the tile I chose was a bit difficult to cut because of the hexagon shape, but I didn't think that it would be significantly difficult that it would cost me about $50+ per square foot to get it installed! When I got the quote to remove my cabinet, put in the new sink, put the floor, I think my mouth hit the floor because it was at least 4X more than any of the other quote. I get that it was a small and hard job, but I'd rather they had just said that they weren't interested instead of giving me a ridiculous quote. EIther way, I am giving them 3 stars because their work does seem great. However, I won't contact them for any jobs in the future, no matter how small or large. read more

I knew Servando through my work, and knew him to be an honest, dependable guy. He is also meticulous and efficient! We took on a major (from the studs up) kitchen remodel as a DYI, depending mostly on my husband's skills. Servando's crew came in for the electrical, plumbing, cabinet installation, and granite countertops. The work is top notch and the scheduling was fantastic. We even had the granite installed on Memorial Day, so we didn't need to take a day off for it. Servando goes the extra mile to do what you ask, but will always make reasonable suggestions to help the project turn out right. He noticed things about my kitchen in his first visit that we hadn't noticed in the 20 years we've lived here. They removed the weathered wooden garage door frame that I was tired of looking at and replaced it with a plastic weather strip that will stand up better against wrot (due to rain and such). Two guys came today to redo the caulking around my master bathtub/shower. They were on time, fast and did great work. They advised me on a certain color of caulk that I would not have thought about, but looks so beautiful and blends with the color of my grout. Very poor communication. Decent work, but they're extremely unorganized and unprofessional. They painted the wrong room in our house despite multiple back-and-forth conversations and in-home consultations. Sub-contractor showed up on day 1 and appeared to have not been briefed on the job. "So what are we doing?"...that's a direct quote. A 1-week job stretched out to 3 before we eventually fired them. You get what you pay for I suppose. read more

So there I was with water all over the floor....a hopelessly clogged sink that is making it impossible to even run the dishwasher. I call AATH, make an appointment. They went out of their way to accommodate my crazy work schedule, which I really appreciated. The contractor was running way behind schedule thanks to a sewer job, and just when I was losing hope, both the contractor and the owner of the business called to say that he was on his way in the former case and that he would personally make the trip in the latter case were the contractor not able to make it. Needless to say my plumbing issue was resolved quickly and professionally, (thanks Brian) and everyone knows that no issue other than actual flames causes as much panic as faulty plumbing. I'm of two minds about writing another glowing review here because I selfishly don't want AAH to become so popular they become too busy to take my next call. But that's not fair to them and really, who doesn't want to encourage good businesses and want them to succeed and not go under? So in brief, I had a very positive experience with AAH and a major bathroom overhaul. It wasn't a cheap job or a short one, but I didn't expect it to be. I felt I received good value for money, excellent support service, and the company says it treats its workers and contractors fairly, which is also an important consideration. And AAH wants to maintain that relationship with its clients afterward. AAH was also very good at working in some other items from my bucket list of repairs alongside the remodel and they also tackled a sudden emergency roof repair when other contractors were unresponsive. I was really glad they came through for me like this when the recent monsoon season blew in, and my roof did NOT start leaking again. The teams from AAH were flexible and professional and worked very hard all the time they were in our house, always cleaned up messes, and took extra care with the little details. Highly recommend this business as a contractor for hard to complete jobs. Servando completed the work in one day within budget. I had to get a stackable clothes dryer vented out the roof in a 1950's house. It involved electrical, venting, roofing, drywall, and painting work in a tiny closet space. Servando gave me a written estimate by email and stuck to the budget. I got a dedicated electrical line ran for the dryer, a roof cap and new shingles, non-corrogated venting, and drywall/painting work done for $1100. (he doesnt accept credit cards unless work is over $1,000). I called roofing companies, but they refused to perform the venting from the celing because they only do the outdoor roof work. I called contractors, but the job was too small. I called AC business for the venting, but they dont perform vent installs. I am thankful Servando was able to complete all aspects of the job in one day. I got a new whirlpool duet stackable unit installed by Depew appliances, and the venting work turned out great! Just to respond to the business owner and reiterate, tub removal was included on the estimate as an option. The discussion about possibly removing the tub through the wall did take place, even if it was not specifically written on the estimate. We requested that portion removed, and they declined to do so. Although the estimate was professional and timely, including work at their discretion that I did not want done and was not necessary was the sole reason for the low review.
