This terminal is far more stressful than it should be.... Its signed fairly well from the highway, except for the crucial point when you need to exit... Which is nowhere near the actual terminal. Parking for walk on passengers is also not the most obvious thing to accomplish. The terminal itself has a ticket window and self-serve kiosks. The kiosks dont seem to sell children's tickets. On the other hand, its clean and the staff are attentive and helpful. Boats seem to run on time. In sum - don't be in a rush, follow road signs carefully and if in doubt, seek staff. read more

Love coming onto the ship with my car and especially during the day. Sunrise or sunset is the best because you can step outside and take pictures. I find it relaxing to look outside and see the waves under the ship. The staff is very nice and they even put blocks under your car if you're parked on the ramp during the trip. Their cafeteria has my favorite snack, popcorn! It only costs $3 for a small and $3.75 for a large popcorn. They also have salads, sandwiches even breakfast ones, coffee, cocoa, tea and even snacks like almonds. Recently, I discovered Wave2go, which allows you to buy your day, monthly or yearly pass online. I would recommend buying it online, just in case the credit card machine malfunctions. The ferry itself is kept very clean, same goes with the bathrooms. The bathrooms even have a plastic disposable bag dispenser for women's sanitary needs. read more

We took it to go West on a Saturday. It was the second ferry of the morning, and not crowded at all (granted, we arrived about 10 minutes after the first ferry left). Was able to pop into lane 1 about five cars back from the front, and chill out in the early morning hues. There's a little shop that serves coffee adjacent to the lines. We watched several people go in, and come out with new resolve and liquid sunshine in hand. The ride to Kingston itself was pretty quick. We trod back to our car and off we went! I would like to say that I have used the ferry system before and when we got to the Edmonds terminal,the blonde hair lady in the booth on the far right side of the terminal was very nice and helpful and a lot of fun. Best experience we have had. I didn't get her name unfortunately but she was awesome. This was on a Sunday. Great customer service ever. read more

The coffee machine took my money and gave me coffee with no cup so it poured straight into the water catch container and i lost my shot :'(

We took the ferry from Edmond to Kingston near the Canadian border across from where my cousin lives and the characters from Twilight and Big Foot and Mount Olympus in the Olympia National Park that supposedly has one of the only two know temperamental rain forests in the world. I had a compact car, myself, a dog, and one passenger and I think it all cost around $20 with a veteran or disability discount. The staff was very friendly and helpful from building us into a line to pay and wait to encouraging us to explore the boat and even excited for us encouraging us to take a look around. We left the car to go to the viewing deck on the third floor where you could see Mount Rainer behind Seattle. There was also a small sit down basic snack area inside on the top floor, but we didn't try it out. Dogs are welcome if leashed. I can imagine this cutting into my budget if I were a daily commuter, but it's an interesting route for a road trip and worth it it rather than drive south and go around to get to the top of the coast like my first trip here before. read more

The ferry dock in Edmonds is fine. If you're driving on, then you can walk your dog in a green patch and get a cup of coffee at the little walk up coffee place. Yet, this set up is a little wonky. You wait on one side of the road, you sometimes have to wait for traffic or trains to pass in the loading and unloading process. Again, it's fine, just a little odd. I haven't been inside the walk on terminal, but my husband says it's fine. read more

Nice thing about this terminal is its well organized. Its easy to get into and out of with out a huge back up of people.

Probably would have given 4 stars but for all the construction and detours currently causing some issues. Even with this it was a pretty fast wait on a Friday pre-noon. read more

I always have a gay old time on the Washington State Ferries. Whether it's heading westbound to see family or eastbound to get in to the city, the experience is generally grand. I drive on, I ride, I experience awesome views, and never once (knock on wood) have I ever sank into The Sound. I'm not sure I could ask for more. The boats are clean, serviceable, and when I generally ride them, on time. The Edmonds to Kingston ferry is a great way to bypass the chaos of downtown Seattle when traveling out to the peninsula. While the views afforded by this passage are not quite as glorious as those coming in to and out of the downtown terminal, they're beautiful just the same, and the traffic is much less. Also, the crossing is quick. And if you're heading in to the north end of Seattle, this is definitely the way to go about it. Yay for cars on boats! read more

Riding the ferry used to be one of my favorite things to do growing up here in the PNW. I'd park myself out on the deck, lean as far over the railing as my mother would let me, and count all the jellyfish I'd see from point A to B. If I was lucky maybe a harbor seal or sea lion. Fast forward too many years and I still love our ferries. We have the largest fleet in the US! And really, we have this loading and unloading of cars down to a pretty efficient science. Not that I have a car to put on it, but i've been a passenger. I've also loaded my bike (so much fun to zip down onto the loading dock!) and traveled as a walk on to Bainbridge, the San Juan's, etc. It is still fun to be on the deck -- even if I never seem to see jellyfish anymore. You also have concessions, squishy indoor seating, and I think some boats even have tvs? So park your car, park your butt, and enjoy a relaxing ride across the sound! read more

We had the opportunity to spread my mom's ashes from the Edmonds/Kingston Ferry last Friday. It was a wonderful experience, and the people running the Ferry system were amazing. I did the 2012 Kitsap Color Classic Bike ride organized by Cascade Cycling Group. We met up in Edmonds and took Ferry over to Bremerton. It was a very nice and smooth ride. The state ferry was very accommodating with all the cyclists. There are more than a hundred cyclists and their bikes. All of us were all able to secure our bikes to the ferry parking area. I thought this was a nice experience on the ferry from Edmonds to Bremerton the first time. I'd totally do it again! read more

If you time your departure right and keep an eye on the wait lines via the webcams, it's an unbelievably convenient and affordable way to travel. I love the ferries--I love the open air, I love how cheap they are compared to BC (unbelievably cheap, for real), I love having that feeling of getting away from it all without making any effort. The bathrooms are cleaned properly now. The workers are still terrible. Ticket lady said go to lane one, ferry worker loading traffic yelled at driver and I, "You guys are supposed to go in lane 2". It is all on dashcam. The workers don't know how to treat people. I ride this ferry at least once a week or more for work related purposes, this is not news. This is my sneaky ferry. If you're in Bremerton or Poulsbo and live in North Seattle, its worth the drive to Edmonds (or Kingston) to avoid downtown traffic. Its only a 30 minutes crossing (unlike the 60 minutes on the Bremerton ferry) Its dependable, rarely late, less crowded than some and soothing. read more

I love this ferry. I think in my life I've taken almost all the Washington State Ferries, and the one from Edmonds to Kingston is my favorite. The reason for it being my favorite is: 1. This is one of the few ferries I don't think I ever threw up on as a child 2. It's pretty short at only around 30 minutes 3. The boats are always really clean, including the women's restrooms 4. Employees are all crazy nice 5. Good food available on days when you have to wait in line to get on the ferry 6. There have been a handful of times I was able to witness marine wildlife while on this ferry. Never any Orcas, but seals and stuff. The price to ride the ferries is always going up, but I have to say, when I was a kid taking the ferry was a special treat, only reserved for my sister and I when we behaved. It's just cool! I round the turn coming from I-5. I round several curves. There is a special lane for ferry bound cars. Once I got mixed up and lectured afterwards.. I keep on.. pass the huge PCC; pass the next curve. Water comes into view. I am tailgated by an impatient driver. I ge tnervous. I move ahead . Acres of cars ahead. We stop. That's all. We are stopped. For how long? No one ever knows. ..... ........... ......................... then we move ahead. I see a ferry and cars disembarking. Mor eand more. The air is clean. The air smells good. A wanderer travels between cars sellign cold pop. Engines start. We slowly snake down to buy tickets. The ? in my head sometimes spoken, sometimes not.." will I make it on this ferry?" Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. So many ferry runs from this terminal. So many ferries just caught, some waited for. Always courteous staff. the adventure begins. read more

I always makes me feel as though I am heading to a mini vacation! The wait time to board may run you 30 minutes to an hour...but well worth the wait! As you park or walk on the ferry, you are free to roam around as you please. You will only be on the water for 20 - 30 minutes. Giving you enough time to walk the the dock, take some pictures and enjoy the view. They conveniently provide restrooms, snack bar, vending machines and arcade games. (snack bar may be closed during the evenings.) Prices vary from $16.40 + and lower rates on return! I highly recommend you ride the ferry at least once! Suggestions: Fairs, Festivals and Events, Lavender Fields, Dog Parks, Dining, Touring and I guess the Twilight Tour too. Best time to ride would be during the summer (of course) when the sun is out! TIPS if you plan to drive: Fuel Up! Pack a book, snack and/or Good Conversation for the 30 - 45 minute wait. Pet Friendly; walk the pup while waiting to board. Expect to pay $16.40 - $30.00 one way. Expect delays on your way home (starting at 6:00pm). We spent an extra hour in traffic on a Sunday around 7:00pm. Walk around! If you plan to walk on the deck just remember, it will be twice as cold and windy, so you may want to bring a light jacket. ;) Otherwise...Have Fun and Enjoy the Ride! read more

We must have been going at a good time because the lines of cars were loaded quickly and efficiently and the employees were all in a good mood -- I suppose the ferry being on time helped! Normally I am a walk-on passenger, however today I went with my father via car, and it was just as pain-free of a process as the walk-on travel -- great! The usual ferry stuff onboard -- overpriced vending machines and drinks-made-by-Tully's -- but if you have a bit of time to kill I highly suggest walking on to this ferry and enjoying being touristy, whether you are a tourist or not! read more

Washington State Ferries Rock!!! They're usually very clean. The workers are very nice. Snack stand is usually stocked pretty well (be prepared for high prices though). They run pretty smoothly. Overall, a pleasant trip every time I've been on them. Also fun for the kids. Prices are pretty moderate for walk-ons, but affordable for the occasional trip to the islands. read more

SOOOO much more convenient than grabbing the ferry from Seattle plus there is a killer crepe place in Kingston that is a definite recommend. Do yourself a fav, avoid the traffic and hit up this ferry. It's less of a headache then leaving from Seattle, always on time--seems like everyone knows the deal here, unlike the confusing messiness at the terminal DT and the folks on board seem generally nicer and happier. read more

This review is for the driving on pay troll lane 3 (further most right). When does the flashing green arrow actually mean "closed"? When it is lane 3 at the Edmonds troll booth! If you are not open don't change the red x sign to the green arrow. If you do change the sign from red x to green arrow do not get all pissy when people come into your lane. Admit you made a mistake and change the green arrow back to the red x AFTER you drain your queue. read more

I only gave three stars because of two reasons. The first one is because of the Bathrooms!!! There terribly outdated and i would feel cleaner in a honey bucket! At least I know they clean those and they have family toilets, hand sanitizer , paper towels, a mirror and there big enough to bring a child in with you AND maneuver. Secondly the area that surrounds the waiting lanes. Its not very people friendly. Maybe its on purpose because there are living quarters on the corner adjacent of the ferry terminal waiting lines. read more

Great Ferry, this one was a lot more $ than another one I used. It was a much longer journey though. Around $21 for the car and 2 passengers. Get out of your car, I beg you, it is sooo beautiful walking on the deck and enjoying the view. read more

With the caveat that I've only been a walk-on passenger here, I think this is a great ferry trip. The view of Seattle is pretty cool. About half way, the three tallest buildings in Seattle line up with Mt. Rainier so you have the hills between you and downtown and then the skyscrapers and then the big Mountain looming over them both - very cool view. Kingston is a cute little town, with some nice touristy shops within walking distance of the ferry landing, as well as enough restaurants to have some variety in selection. read more

One of the quickest ways to get across to the peninsula from either downtown Seattle or in Edmond's. Saves you an hour or more in the drive around. It is clean neat you can go up on the decks and take in the view with food and beverage of your choice. I use this mode of transportation every time I head over to Allyn very relaxing and saves on the wear and tear on your vehicle. You can also walk or bike across depending on your visits. read more

I was lucky enough to get right on the ferry in Kingston heading over to Edmonds on a Sunday evening. I was surprised to see food and stuff available. It was quick and quite well organized. Then again, I guess when they have people directing it day in and day out it goes that way. It was my first ferry ride and definitely was a nice way to break up the driving. read more

3 stars - what a great idea, now lets actually have enough ferries for the traffic. 2 hours to get on a freakin' ferry. WTF?! I didn't know we were in a 3rd world country, and had to wait this long to get across some damn water. Okay, that and almost 20 bucks for me and husband man to go one way? Then almost 12 bucks going the other way?! Geez what a rip off. I enjoy the ferry, though. It brings me back when I was young and I would run up and down on the ferry, with the wind in my face standing out on the front. Wicked awesome. read more

Hopping on one of the Washington State Ferries is just a fun and romantic experience at any time, even if you don't have anything else better to do but just want to go for a boat ride and be on the water. The cost is not incredibly high and the sights are amazing from every port - and make for a fun thing to do when you have friends/family in from out of town. Bring a camera and a jacket. The ferries are to Seattle what the Cable Cars are to San Francisco. A must to experience and travel on with great views and wonderful place to capture memories ... even if you have nothing else to do but ride out to one of the islands, enjoy a coffee and come back. It's a nice break to any day and how can you not enjoy the sights of the birds and ships. The ferries are very steady so you don't have to worry about sea sickness. There's tons of space to wonder around and a great snack bar to pick up a drink or cup of clam chowder. Grab a site by the window and relax and visit while just watching the world float by the great windows. Or you can explore the outside decks - but it can be a bit chilly depending on the year. The lines can be a bit long at the end of a weekend if you're driving, but if you're on foot - you have nothing to worry about. Most of the areas near the Ferry Docks are great little places nearby that you can walk to and enjoy a meal or wonder and just return back to where you started. Great day out for kids young and old. read more

I really don't have any complaints about the state ferries. I mean, what other option do I have? They get me where I need to go, the price isn't cheap but neither is operating an enormous ferry system so what do you expect. The boats have always been clean and well maintained and for the most part they stick to the schedule. My one gripe is the food/beverage options. I understand the restrictive economics of the situation but the food they have isn't good. Also, there should be more beer options. A bar on the ferry would kick ass. I couldn't think of any better way to pass the time than enjoying good scenery from a bar stool. read more

Taking a ferry ride is among the most enjoyable things to do in the Puget Sound area. It is relaxing and the views are spectacular! You can walk on, or drive onto the ferry. Driving on to travel across the sound is a bit pricey, but it's less than the cost of gas and more relaxing than having to drive around the sound. For a daily outing, walking on is great. read more

A reasonable alternative to circling the Puget Sound to get to the Hood Canal area, the WSF has an efficient operation for the Edmonds-Kingston run. The staff, from the booth to those on the ferry, were friendly and very professional. Just follow the instructions on the signs and by the staff, refrain from making sudden movements, and everything will go smoothly. That said, I hear people grumbling about the fare increases but they should realize that the cost in time/gas/tolls (to mention a few) are about par with the fare. Besides, it's one of the best opportunities to take in the views! read more
