These guys and gals are the friendliest people ever! Everytime I ride the ferry (at least two round trips a month) it puts a smile on my face. As others point out, it makes me feel like I am on a mini-vacation. The people at the booth are always friendly and the attendants are very serious about their job but do it with a relaxed smile. The ferries are always clean and immaculate, they slow down or stop for pods of Orcas, the food attendants are real people who care. If you want a place that feels like the people really love what they are doing and really love where they are working, I think this is it. Please don't ever change!!! read more

Overall very relaxing and a great view. I'm still confused over the pricing. The first time I paid $17.30 for a round trip ticket, and the next time - a week later - I was told I'd save money because I had a small car...and it was $26.35. It still beats the extra time driving. The food and drinks on board are expensive, but they have a captive audience. You can bring your own food, and it's only about a 20-minute ride. read more

We had a wedding across the water and I thought that we'd take this ferry over and the Bremerton ferry on the return. I had no idea that the Edmonds-Kingston ferry was so busy. We were in the queue on the side of the road for what seemed like an eternity and to be honest, I was convinced that we were going to miss our scheduled time. Turns out that we were one of the last few cars let aboard and we did make our wedding. The ferries departing from here seemed like they were on the smaller side. Since we don't take them with any regularity, I didn't really take that into consideration. Lesson learned for sure. Dealing with the downtown traffic might be a pain but they run larger vessels which would equal greater chance to making it to one's destination without having to leave hours in advance. read more

I agree had the worst experience ever! I came with my corporate card and was treated like a thief she's like this says "company name" on it, is this card yours? I even offered to show her id she then radio'd someone and closed the window and once she opened the window again asked if this is my card and that it was stolen. I said it clearly had my name on it I have other cards with that same name and identification she finally let me go through. This was such a joke and worst experience ever I was treated like a criminal trying to use my own card for payment. read more

How could you NOT love the WSF on a beautiful sunny day in Seattle. Yes they are a little old, outdated and dingy. But I marvel at the fact that they can carry so many cars on them and get you to point A to point B to quickly! I will say that it is QUITE pricey to take the ferry $14 for the driver and a standard car and then $7.70 for a passenger???? WHY? Rip off if you ask me but I will just bit my tongue here since I only do this once in a blue moon. read more

Being new to Washington and ferries all together I feel I should warn you. The lines are extremely long, and the ferry personnel in Edmonds very rude when I asked directions. I didn't know where to wait or turn around and the guy asked me immediately if we were being smart guys and said we could take it to the police station. Ofcourse I was like no, no- almost pleading..."we're really new to this. We honestly don't know where to go." They relaxed a little after that... But still- it never should have happened. I was shocked! When we got up there he made us park our Honda Accord in a small spot, the problem being a huge camper with an attached truck was part way in our spot and we couldn't even open our passenger door! After what we already went through, I just climbed through the drivers seat to get out because I didn't want trouble. The other side, in Kingston, was awesome! Kingston charges way less than Edmonds, has a nice huge parking lot to wait in, and the people are super friendly. We did this 4 times in two days, so we got used to it in Edmonds. I just don't understand why they are so much more jumpy and why they cost so much more! read more

Pretty consistent on what you can expect. Staff is kind and they work to move things along and keep things going on time.

Seems like I only meet employees who are willing to treat me like a person on the Kingston side. This was my first time walking on the ferry so obviously I don't know everything I need to do and have to ask questions. I've been yelled at or rudely spoken to ever since I came to this terminal and needed to ask questions because I didn't know what to do. These people obviously hate their jobs. Wish I could avoid this terminal entirely now. read more

They'd get three stars if it wasn't for the gorgeous view there and back, but really there are pros and cons to this. The Edmonds-Kingston run goes frequently (about every half hour) and is a 30 minute crossing. You used to be able to ride the ferry across and back without getting off -- which was great to take a book along and just have a nice leisurely ride -- but no more. At the other side you are tossed out and made to wait in the waiting area while they... well, I'm not sure what they do exactly. Inspect the boat for terrorists? Count the silverware? Not sure. In any case, Kingston is a small town on the other side that is fairly tourist-oriented. My favorite places to visit over there are the Main Street Ale House (good food) and the Firehouse Theater (small independent movie theater). But usually I just ride for the scenery and the fresh air. The only other thing worth noting is that if you haven't ridden the ferries before, walking on is much cheaper and often much faster also. read more

As a commuter I find this to be the quickest, friendliest and prettiest way to cross the water (I've given Seattle/Bainbridge many tries and everytime I'm just dissatisfied. Grumpy & Rude) I tend to stay in my car during crossings so the views are undoubtedly the best in the state. Wales are always a *bonus* too. $12.75 (off peak) car and driver $9 car & driver with a commuter pass *HINT* the 1st Booth (drive-on) is always the quickest! *Train station in Edmonds to downtown, Bellingham, Portland, Leavenworth is always fun! Restrooms on the car deck have always been very clean, well kept. Just a great 20min ride to either Kingston or Edmonds. Walk on, enjoy a lunch on either side, rent a bike for the day or ride your own. Fantastic day outing for the family! read more

Always fun. It's a great experience to ride on the WSF. The only bad thing I have to say about the ferry system is the prices. I feel like they keep bumping up the prices, now it costs an arm and a leg to get on there with your car, forget bringing someone along. It is WAYY too expensive. It's too bad too because it is a great family or friends day trip adventure. Even walking on is too expensive in my opinion. Other than the price, this boat ride is a great one. The employees could be a little nicer and more friendly, and the food is overpriced but I would recommend taking a ferry ride at least once. Kingston doesn't have much going on, there a small town, but there are a lot of restaurants, some shopping, and one skatepark. The restaurants are fun and really good. There's a crape place that is the best. You could spend probably a good half day over there. read more

I'm only writing this review because of the poor breakfast choice on my part riding the Kingston ferry today. I for some reason though that a Ham egg and cheese muffin sandwich would hit the spot this morning and I was wrong. The only spot it hit was the bottom of the trash can after my first and only bite. It had the flavor of melted plastic and soap, and the consistency of water logged bread. Next time I'll stick to the Ivers clam chowder and a $6 beer. First experience on a ferry! What else is there to say? Besides the fact that it was almost $20 for two adults one way, it was pretty cool. It took about 30 minutes to get to the other side. Smooth ride. I can't imagine having to take this every day in one's commute though. read more

There isn't much to this terminal other than the nearby beach! If you can wait to buy your ticket, you can take in the sights and sounds of the Edmonds beachfront if you're walking on. The left turn from the car queue into the terminal is awkward if they change the light, but overall - it is a decent terminal! read more

This terminal is ideal for passengers that are walk aboard as they have overhead loading onto the main passenger deck to facilitate a smooth process of purchasing your ticket from the walk on ticket booth and being down on the lower ferry dock for boarding which starts as soon as the last car disembarks from the vessel and they begin loading vehicles. I suggest you arrive roughly 45 minutes before scheduled sailing for walk on passengers and 90 minutes for those driving onboard. I only say this because the half capacity rule applies on this route more times than not due to call ins or no shows for work onboard the vessels. So they stop boarding walk on passengers roughly 15 minutes before departure time or if they hit half capacity, whichever happens first. The first ferry out on vessel #1 during the week is 4:45a from Edmonds, and on Saturday the first ferry out at 5:15p from Edmonds on vessel #2 and then for Sunday you have to wait for the first sailing of vessel #1 at 6:25a from Edmonds. There's no food facilities on-site but there is a vending machine for snacks and drinks, also in walking distance of the terminal there are cafes, restaurants and yes, coffee shops to have before you board your vessel. I like this terminal and from a functioning standpoint I can say they board a full ferry with cars in less than ten minutes, fifteen if there's semi-trucks to be staged onboard and to disembark they have all the cars off in less than ten minutes as well. Ensuring they don't bother you with that and they are ready for the next scheduled sailing. I give this terminal a five out of five stars! read more

The way they do the toll booth must be something that designed back in the 80s and they are still using that system! No way you can get on from any of the side streets unless you are coming from the freeway! They have about 5 to 6 cops there to control the traffic which might be a good thing, but wait time is at least 2 to 3 hours doing rush hours... Yeah you can drive there for about the same time! I would only use this if you are not driving. read more

For whatever reason, I love riding these things. I ride them just for fun. I don't need to take them to get anywhere I want to actually go, the ride is what I'm after. I view this as just another fun activity here in the PNW. I don't know if that speaks well of the ferries or ill of the PNW, but whatever, I like them and if I were visiting Seattle or just bored with nothing to do on a weekend, I'd say that a ride on these is a great idea. Also, they don't have that gross smell that most ferries get. You know what I'm talking about, the combination of sea water and vomit. They obviously keep them clean. read more

Even after waiting for close to 2 hours (who knew all those people wanted to attend the Sequim Lavendar Festival) and paying an exorbitant fee to board with our 35 foot motorhome this was a highlight of our trip. Make sure you know where you are going when you enter the ferry terminal. Apparently there is only one way in and if you make the mistake of going the wrong way won't be treated with respect, you will get scolded and treated as you are cutting and sent to the back of the line. And in my case it was to the back of the line that was not even a line before being sent there. I cannot imagine working for the WST ferry terminals to be a very stressful job and I would assume they are paid fairly well with benefits so there should be no reason they should treat people who are lost as though they are cutting. I got to the lineup in Edmonds after seeing a sign that said two hour ferry wait. I only ended up waiting an hour and then drove right on the ferry. The policeman directing traffic was very nice and did a great job directing the traffic. The views are beautiful from the ferry! read more

Ferry is super smooth loading cars. Quick... Painless and clean. Definitely recommend the ferry if you don't want to drive all the way thru Tacoma to get to the peninsula. read more

WOW. Really impressed. I paid my American dollars and the boat took me to the place that I was expecting. Came in with low expectations but boy did this place blow them out of the water. 5/5 but I'll have to try this Ferry thing again to confirm. EDIT: WOW. Took the Walla Walla Ferry Boat there but for some reason we had a different Boat on the way back. A classic bait and switch. We were on the Spokane boat on the return. IMMEDIATE RED FLAG! I actually saw a women crying because the ride got so choppy. Boats don't make people cry where I'm from. Really not sure about this whole Ferry thing now. 1/5 Probably will take a Jet Ski or smaller vessel next time. read more

Long, terrible wait times. Ferry workers are usually rude to me when I ask a question. I think the ferry system is run very poorly. From a commuters perspective, I am very disappointed that I was mislead about using this as an "efficient" way to get to work. The only reason I am putting 5 stars is because these reviews are obviously scrubbed, and this review would never show up if I post the rating I really want to. I would hope the WSDOT would use the generous amount of tax dollars I pay, in addition to the astronomical fares charged in order to restructure this route, but I know that will never happen - why would WSDOT change anything? read more

Besides a really cheerful ticket attendant this isn't really the best terminal. There isn't much room and there is traffic all around you. No easy restrooms or places to grab a quick cup of coffee. The Kingston ferry terminal is a lot more convenient. All in all it doesn't really matter, it's just a ferry terminal. read more

Kingston to Edmonds we paid 17 total to cross to Edmonds. We paid 41 to cross back! Great views but that is a ripoff in my opinion.

This ferry sucks. They repeatedly cancel or underfill boats. No decent food or shopping near terminal. They run out of food most runs and are too understaffed to improve anything. read more
