My 10 week old puppy chewed thru an electrical cord and the shock burned his mouth and caused his breathing the be short and laboured. He was in so much pain! The Dr did blood work and took xrays. said his chest xrays were fine that the shock lowered his blood pressure making him cold. 2 hrs later gave him some pain meds Was told we could take him home. he was in so much pain we took him to the emergency where the DR's there looking at the same xrays said his lungs are filling with fluid and the damage from the shock is catastrophic. How can the Dr misread a chest xray so bad. They made it seem like our puppy would be fine. Meanwhile our dog was actually dying. very friendly staff just to dumb to be of any use. unbelievable really. Avoid this hospital! Drive to he one 3 min down the road. We first started taking our girls' to Dr. Basha since 2020. We've been very fortunate and have had very healthy dogs but recently Mylie, our little 13 year old Maltese started having some health issues. We took her in for an Emergency call and Dr. Salem looked after her. He provided us with absolutely top rate information and treatment options for his assessment of her condition. Unfortunately, we were not able to afford the costs of the animal hospital so he did what he could to make her comfortable until we could bring her back for some diagnostic testing the next week. We brought her back and she saw her regular vet, Dr. Basha (who both of the girls love to pieces ... and they don't really like anyone lol). Dr. Basha did some xrays and gave us his diagnosis, which was completely in-line with Dr. Salem's assessment. Dr. Basha also gave us treatment options which also included the animal hospital at $ 1,500/day x 3 days as being the best option. However, knowing that this wasn't within our immediate affordable range, Dr. Basha put together the very best facsimile of the treatment set-up as he could and had us leave her for 2 1/2 hours with him. He administered meds while she received oxygen. Unfortunately, after that time, his prognosis had not changed and he recommended that the very best for Mylie was to let her go. For some reason, I just felt it wasn't quite time yet, and opted to take her home to see how she was overnight and if the meds he had given would have further success with a bit more time. He provided us with the necessary medication to help with fluid removal from her lungs. Despite his recommendation, he respected our decision to give her a bit more time. What we also love about Dr. Basha is his approach to treatment. He combines the balance of providing the best for both the animal and the parents...he is conscious of affordable options and budgets and always provides both a low-end estimate and a high-end estimate for the treatment of our pets. He outlines what can be done in both scenarios and will do his very best to help you work within your means. Unlike many out there, Dr. Basha is not in it for the money...of course, his interest is in the animal's care, but more than that, he cares how the treatment can be done within your means. That's pretty rare. Regardless of Mylie's outcome (I'm happy to say that she's so far showing signs of improving and being comfortable...trust me, if she gave us any indication that it was time, we'ld be back at South Edmonton Vet Clinic in a heartbeat, knowing that we all did our very best for her.) Darryl and I literally trust Dr. Basha with our animals' lives. Going forward, our other fur baby Hannah, along with Mylie (praying she pulls through) and any other little ones we get will be taken to Dr. Basha. His extraordinary knowledge, insight, care, kindness and above-average treatment of our pets is unmatched as far as we're concerned. We initially brought one of our cats in because his foot had been stepped on and he had a limp. We were told at the first appointment that he likely had a sprained ankle, and that his knee and hip were functioning normally, so it was either his ankle or his foot. We were given medication to manage pain and reduce inflammation. A week later, he was still limping and was not putting weight on the leg. I booked an appointment and requested to have an X-ray done, in case something was fractured. At this appointment, the vet looked at my cat and said that he was no longer limping (which he was) and that I hadn't needed to bring him in. After some discussion, where I very much felt like I was convincing the vet that he was still in pain and was injured, I was given more of the same medication for him and told to bring him back if nothing improved in 2-3 weeks. No X-ray was done, as the vet felt that it was a sprained ankle or a pulled muscle. Around 2.5 to 3 weeks later, my cat was still limping, so I chose to book with a different vet to get a second opinion. During this visit to a different clinic, the vet did X-ray his lower half and found that his hip was fractured. While everyone working at this clinic was kind and inviting, and the vet did handle my cat fairly well during the checkups, I could not believe that the fractured hip was missed both times I took him in. I felt that I advocated for my cat, particularly when I booked an appointment requesting an X-ray, and was ignored by the vet. read more

If you love your pet, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! My healthy 4 year old lab chipped a K-9 tooth and I brought him here hoping for the best options for treatment. I was offered removal of the tooth, a root canal, or a cap for the tooth. I didn't know the difference between these procedures and was frankly more concerned with the anesthesia process given the lengthy waivers associated with having your pet go under. After a lengthy discussion it was agreed that a cap would be the least invasive procedure for my dog and the surgery was booked for week or so later. The surgery was completed and although my dog was understandably unwell for a few days and required to be fed pain killers and antibiotics for about week or so, he survived and returned to himself within a few days. The tooth appeared discolored so I brought him back for a checkup. I was told by the vet (Dr. Bodington I think) that the tooth looked 'perfectly normal' but the pinkness of the capped tooth concerned me so I sought a second opinion. I learned that the pink in the tooth is the result of having bacteria locked in by the cap. The cap of a cracked K-9 (I learned) is not a suitable procedure if the chip isn't capped within 24 hours. The vet ought to have known that but didn't make me aware of this fact. It feels like THEY SOLD ME A SERVICE AND RISKED MY DOG'S WELL-BEING for the sake of the bottom line. Additionally, when I brought my dog back for a check on that newly pink tooth, the attending vet also should have known that something was amiss - instead she dismissed my concern. Now, my dog needs to go through a second sedation and a root canal. And to top it off, I brought my concern to the attention of management and was told that they would look into my concern and get back to me. I waited more than a week when I had to call back. It was obvious that Jim hadn't reviewed the notes until our phone call because he read them to me. He then offered $50 as compensation. What a joke. AVOID this clinic. read more

This place is dirty and unorganized. I've unfortunately brought my pet here for some critical blood work (I mistook it for what I later realized is guardian) and I had to call everyday to see if my dying dogs results were in. They have different workers there all the time and they are never sure which doctor is coming in or takes a file. read more

We love this Vet! Setting up an appointment is always easy and never a pain. The staff are very welcoming and helpful when it comes to booking an appointment. They do a great job of finding the appointment time that works for you. Our cat Grady has gone in twice for general check up and shots. The Doctors are very friendly and good with him. They are very careful to keep him calm and treat him with love. The doctors have helped us in understanding our cat's behavior and needs. I have been to vet's in the past where they tried to make you feel guilty about how you take care of your pet (Your CAT HAS LOST 10 pounds what the heck are you doing to him!) and this vet didn't do that at all! They were very good at making sure we knew we were doing a good job and they offered suggestions on how we can continue to keep our cat in good health. I love the fact that they will call you back after the appointment or surgery to see how everything is going. After we had our cat "Fixed" the called and I told the Doctor about how my cat loves to eat the household plants and we caught him with leaves in his cone. She laughed at how cute he was and was glad to hear Grady was doing well. Grady has received shots, boosters, exams, micro-chipped, and has been "Fixed" at this clinic and we have had zero complications. They have been really good to us and our cat. I will continue to use this clinic while I live in the Edmonton area. (Also if it's a stressful event for a patient's owner the Keg and Cork liquor store is in the same plaza) read more

U know when u walk in that ur animal will be given the best care possible. Meisha was so well taken care of right up until after she passed away. I didn't feel comfortable to take her anywhere else, I only trust Dr. Nash and the team. You guys are simply the best there is, no one is better than you! Thank you for all you did! As many, I have always had trust issues with Vets but I cannot say enough about this place. No huge fees and more of 'this' or 'that' causing the bill to go up really really high. They always call back if I have questions and do a follow up to see how their (my pet) patient is doing. I have several fur babies through there over the years and never any complaints. Snotty and condescending receptionist. Completely insensitive to a customer's concerns. Can only be described as belligerent and non cares not to hear a question or concern from a pet owner - brings up irrelevant issue before answering a simple, straightforward question and presumes to know more about my beloved family pet than I do myself. Imagine! A perfect stranger in under 30 seconds, preaching to me as if I don't know anything. I am more than half a century old and have lived with my pet for 14 years - since his birth. I do know a basic thing or two. This clinic is only concerned with up selling, whether relevant or not, to extract as much money as possible from the public instead of being an integral part of our community in partnering to help care for our pets - which are, of course, family members to us. Don't go to this dictatorship of a self serving clinic. What's wrong with vets who employ people like this? Unless, as is generally suspected, the snobby receptionist is a reflection of the vets' characters themselves. Bingo! read more

I LOVED the staff. I m sure they process lots of dogs but the front desk staff really made me feel that my pups were special. I received a courtesy call as soon as my dog (one went for a spay and the other just shots) was out of surgery. I think my vet was Dr. Mills, he took the time to explain the whole procedure, and talk about my dogs. Pricing wise I did call around to a few vets and they came in about half the cost. Ive never owned a dog before and the first time I took my dog in to the clinic, the vet tech and veterinarian were very patient with me and answered all my questions and concerns thoroughly. I love that the clinic is very welcoming and that they were able to put this anxious new mom at ease. I took her back to get her boosters vaccines, spay, and microchip. They called me to remind me of my appointment the day before and what preoperative care that was required. The receptionist/tech? went through what was to be expected that day in the surgery and was very nice. When I picked her up, the tech who explained her post op care to me was very thorough and again, answered all the questions I had. What I like is that I never felt rushed during my visits and all my questions were always answered. I have a medical background, so it was nice seeing how knowledgable the staff are, even though there are definite differences between humans and canines! The pricing was also very reasonable. What I wished they did differently, was that I wanted to meet the veterinarian who was going to be performing the spay. I think that is very important to give the owners reassurance and to put a face to the person you are entrusting your pet to. Also, it would be a great idea to let the owners do a quick walk through of the clinic to see where the surgeries are done and where they recover. Just a thought! read more

We took our puppies (4 chocolate labs) to get their first shots and deworming at the clinic last October. The Office Administrator (sorry, I do like the term 'secretary' or 'receptionist' as the position entails much more than answering phones) was very helpful; polite and friendly from the initial phone call right through our entire visit. We were so impressed we brought their dad in (our male chocolate lab) to get neutered in November. The rate to have him neutered was much better than anywhere else we had checked in the city, and the care he received was fantastic. Next step is bringing one of the puppies in (that we kept) to get neutered and he WILL be going here. We highly recommend the Edmonton South Animal Hospital & Spay and Neuter Cente to all our friends and family and will not take our furbabies anywhere else. read more

I have had nothing but problems with this clinic since I first brought my cat here. Dr. Nash is rude and rushes to finish his work. He made several mistakes in the treatment of my cat and I didn't hear so much as an apology from him. After his final mistake of doing a surgery that was unsuccessful, he told us we were not welcome back although we hadn't been anything but pleasant. Poor way to cover his tracks. This is an excellent clinic. I love the great care they take with my animals. I recently rushed a very sick cat and I did not expect my cat to live. Well they took excellent care of Deacon and I was able to bring him home in three days. I love the staff and the vets are great. The clinic is always clean. I highly recommend this vet clinic. To say thanks does not seem enough, but thank you all for saving Deacon. I believe that if I did not have such excellent doctors and staff, my cat may not have made it. I would like to rate this animal hospital a 0. I had the worst experience at Edmonton South Animal Hospital than I've ever had at ANY other vet clinic. All of the staff employed at this clinic were rude, degrading, pushy, and had no knowledge or confidence what so ever in regards to anything I asked or had concerns with. After my puppy contracted parvo, Dr. Ignacio Nash assured me she would be out of the clinic within a week. After ten days of intense care I visited her and she looked to be in much better condition and wanting to come home. According to Dr. Nash, she had no symptoms of the virus left but was not eating yet. Dr. Nash went ahead and tried to give my weak pup feeding tubes to "speed up the process" The next day he called to tell me my dog had passed away. If this was not terrible enough he proceeded to try and put the blame on my family saying he felt "pressured" to get her home. Never have I heard of a vet trying to put their mistake on a client. If he ever had a doubt that these feeding tubes could harm my dog, why would he ever do it? I would never recommend Edmonton South Animal Hospital to anyone, and I hope they feel terrible for killing my dog. I"ll be sure to let everyone I know how terrible of and experience you made this for me. P.S. Thanks for making me wait a month to get my dogs ashes, and not calling to let me know they were ready to be picked up. Very professional. read more

im only giving this 5 stars because i want it to be seen! if you are trying to rescue an animal, do not, i repeat, do not take it to this clinic! i have a rabbit that i've named gloria, that i have rescued from someone that let her go loose outside because they didn't want her anymore. recently she got injured by a dog that caught her by the leg and she was lucky to get away. so now she has a broken femur and an infection. the vet that saw her would only offer me the options to do a $2000 procedure to pin her leg in place so it could heal or to euthanize her. there are other procedures that can be done, but she refused to give me any other options saying it was inhumane and that death is the best option. they now basically have gloria held hostage and won't allow me to take her to another vet for a second opinion. they are telling me that bylaw needs to call them, which has nothing to do with the matter. it is a civil matter and what they are doing is illegal!! i have called the police and they also told me that what they are doing isn't right, and that as long as there is no outstanding balance with the clinic that they have no reason to keep my rabbit. i will be getting gloria back if i have to sue them or not. #savegloria read more

This is by far the worst vet clinic I have ever visited in all my life. Not only do half the vets not know what they are doing they don't have the answers to any questions and constantly consult a book. The can not manage appointments. Many times have gone there and the appointments were not created or put under other dogs names. Completely unorganized. My favourite is when I take an animal there for concerns hearing them talk about how stupid I am on the other side of the door and making fun of my concerns and laughing while I sat in the room and listened to them call me retarded. I do not re comes this clinic or any of it vets and the vet techs I have seen many times make mocking faces behind people's back when there with their pet. Never go here. My neighbor who was a senior took her cat in for a dental and the DR broke its jaw during the procedure. They totally took advantage of an older lady. I did not feel confident that my cat received the best care at this clinic. She was misdiagnosed with a contagious infection and with little information on her skin condition or other possibilities provided to me, I opted for her to receive immediate treatment for a highly contagious skin problem. My other animals were quarantined to another home for a month while her skin problem continued to get worse. I spent a stressful month sterilizing my apartment everyday and washed my hands and clothing every time I went near my cat since I did not want to catch the fungus. I appreciated that I could book an appointment right away in the evening when my cat's skin problem was becoming worse. The vet who treated my cat demonstrated a high regard for my cat the way she handled her. The receptionist was also friendly so that was not an issue with me with my experience at this clinic. However the visit was quick that there was no discussion on a long term treatment plan or in depth info on other possible conditions that could cause her symptoms. She was not properly tested to confirm a positive ID of this infection. When I picked up my cat's prescription the male vet who brought it to me was rushed, cold, and had no interest in giving me instructions. He told me to read the bottle. This trip to this clinic caused more stress for me and all of my cats, uncertainty, and money than was necessary. My cat lost all the hair on her head and coat during this treatment. Once I stopped the treatment, changed her diet and put on an ointment from a holistic vet to clear the bacteria caused by her scratching her infection began to clear up while relieving the itching. Turns out she has food allergies which is more common than ringworm. Let this be a cautionary tale to do your homework before taking your cat to a vet and opting for expensive treatment. read more
