There are some downsides that prevented my rating from mirroring the stratospheric and glowing reviews on user-driven platforms like Yelp. While the batter is wonderful, the chicken is dry. The rice is uneventful. And the mac 'n' cheese was a little runnier than I prefer but wonderfully flavorful nonetheless. The choices for bread were stale Hawaiian rolls or homemade cornbread. The line was long and moving. The service is of southern kitchen, expect someone screaming "next" at the cash register. The menu is at the front by the register, in chalk, so it gets updates throughout the day. While ordering you are informed which items are sold out. Seating is sparse and 1st Come 1st Serve. I ordered the chicken plate. The chicken was crispy, seasoned and juicy - Perfectly fried. All of the sides were good except the cornbread. Just skip tasting the cornbread it will ruin the meal. Overall, it's Southern Soul food; however seating and dynamic menu presents the most challenge in making it an enjoyable experience.

I'm parked across the street, which I park at semi often, and throughout the years, and have only been next door at the vape shop in the strip mall. I think the other times I've came by they were closed, but they weren't closed today and I kind of expected them to be. I wanted to have supper here last night, but I had to go endure tragedy at the Mexican restaurant in the same row. I noticed they were open today, so I mosied it over about 1:00 p.m. The place is really clean, it's a family run outfit, and they are ALL SO nice. So I wanted a brisket plate, but the nice young gentleman behind the counter told me that it wasn't ready and it would be ready in an hour, so I came back at 2:00 p.m.. I ordered brisket, collards and green beans. Again if you don't follow me, you don't know my culinary history and that on the smoke pit, but this place was just about as good as my own. My collards were fabulous, green beans were off the chain, my brisket was hot, tender and moist. So good! They went above and beyond, the young gentleman at the counter asked me if I was a truck driver after placing my order, which I am an O/O, and I got something free or got a discount, not too sure what it was but I got something! That means a lot, we spend weeks and months away from our families to bring ungrateful people the things they want, so it's a little gestures like that that really makes a difference to us. Well they definitely have a lifetime customer. I just have to make sure when I pull here that they're open. For everything, it was priced at $29.99, which was quite reasonable considering the portion size. The inside of the restaurant was cozy with a family-friendly diner feel. The music playing was very entertaining. Each table had a great variety of condiments available, including hot sauces, ketchup, mustard, etc. Overall, J.W. Beverette's Soul Food was a solid choice for experiencing comforting, delicious soul food. We had Jaguar's Spot cater a group of students and their presence, presentation, and taste left a lasting impression. This is a family owned business that's a collective collaboration across three generations. The care put into the service and the setup was top tier. The time they took to answers questions and present themselves really allowed us to connect with their history and their contribution to food in this city/region. And then the food was exceptional. We actually had two meals catered, one comprised of veggies, ribs, and sausages. The other was a burger bar + ice cream. Both nights the meals were incredible with great flavor and balanced seasoning, very filling, and left our group wondering "can we have them cater again?" They don't just talk a big catering game, but they bring in when you bring yourself too. The restaurant is located in Millbrook in a plaza that is welcoming and has plenty of parking. They have a stage and setup for karaoke and even a duet if you desire. We were graced with a performance from one of the grand-daughters of establishment--what a tranquil and powerful voice. She even insured one of our students to get on stage. I also appreciate the accessibility addons-a level entrance and a restroom with a handle bar for assisted mobility while using the restroom.

It is run by a husband-and-wife team from catering, food preparation to being the entire waiting staff - just the two of them doing everything. The food - southern cuisine - was already laid out buffet style in the main hall. At the far end of the hall were desserts. Drinks of water, orange juice and sweet tea were in the dining room to the left of the hall. Now the dining room is large enough area to accommodate a party of 40 (there were 28 of us). I don't care for southern cuisine, unless it's seafood. But I did like both fried and baked chickens, spinach and cabbages; had multiple helping of them. I wished rice was included. The abundance of spaces between the tables helped in reducing the noise level. I sat at one of the smaller tables so that helped a lot. The overall decor evokes a pre-1980s feel, and apparently so is the upkeep of the building. The service was good enough that I would have given it at least four stars. Then I went to the men's restroom. When I finished my business, I turned the doorknob to unlock and it came loose. I though: was the door unlocked the entire time? This was shocking. Anyone could have entered. For that, one star is removed. (Had someone entered while I was *ahem* busy, I would have deducted two stars.) The restroom doorknob issue is enough reason for me to not recommend O'Dessa's Blessings. I hope the owners have done something about that.
