I had an appointment at 8:00 AM Filled out required forms and shortly after that I was called in to a room . Someone came in to take my blood pressure . Another person ; I think it was Pricilla ! She informed me at about 8:10 Am that the Dr was in surgery and I could come back at 1:00 PM ! This was totally unacceptable and to top it off I had to pay $10.50 to park in a horrible parking lot . The office gave me the creeps . Nobody was there and I wouldn't recommend this Drs. Office . I didn't process until now how bad this experience was and how horrible the office staff was . Next appointment was in a room used for storage where I waited for an hour until he finally came in smirking told me, "I can't do anything for you" which was bizarre then walked out leaving me there dumbfounded. There isn't enough words to express my gratitude for this doctor! It's been over ten years since my first serious herniated disc, and over the years dealing with the pain, multiple herniations and surgeries since, I'm grateful for Dr. Nomoto skills and expertise in total disc replacement. I'm now recovering free of back pain although the recovery will take some time I'm happy to say the back and leg pain is 100% gone! Great doctor, frustrating front office. I had a great experience with Dr. Nomoto from a medical perspective. He was very calm, thorough, understanding, and also conservative, which I needed in my instance. He said a great phrase of "I am going to treat you as though I'd treat myself". However, the entire rest of the experience was frustrating to say the least. When trying to book an initial consult with him for a severe neck injury, I was given availability over a month out. I could not schedule imaging ahead of time, so the sum of the appointment was essentially to order imaging (this is likely an insurance issue rather than an office issue), but then I was told that my imaging wouldn't be read to me by the doctor for another 2 weeks (now it's over 6 weeks from injury just to know what's wrong with me). On top of that, and most-frustratingly, the front office was extremely hard to get a hold of - we're talking 5+ calls with no response at different times of day. When I was able to get a hold of the front office, they almost-never had any context of past appointments, and didn't seem too keen to find the context unless they were pressed on it. Every time I called, it seemed like my previous appointment had not happened, so they just offered an appointment 1+ months out that wouldn't be relevant to me because the appointment they were recommending had already happened. 5 stars for the doctor himself, 1 star for the whole rest of the experience. read more

I am a 53 year-old woman, that has been suffering degenerative back pain since I was age 40. You know, I did the running and heavy aerobic weight training forever. The trainers all told me how it was supposed to be so "good for you!" Good for your heart perhaps-not the skeletal system. No big surprise later on, combine that with my genetics=osteoarthritis, bone spurs. I had been through every "conservative treatment" for my right lower back pain, which particularly felt like a knife jabbing me in one spot chronically. It never improved, even from physical therapy, acupuncture, epidurals,steroid shots, chiropractor and endless pain management appointments, you name it-I tried it. Every medication, too, and with the smug, dismissive attitude that typical physiologists use, either to inform you that "back surgeries aren't that successful," or they give you the attitude that "perhaps you're seeking opioids to get high." I was even told that it wasn't worth my time to get an MRI. I had to insist on this at Kaiser, and finally was validated/confirmed that indeed I had facet spondylosis and spinal stenosis in my lower spine. I had my first sacroiliac fusion surgery done at Kaiser Sunset which only took 20 minutes. That helped with some of the pain, but not all. And then I found Dr. Nomoto, who performs a lateral L4 L5 trial fusion for people with slipped discs (which I don't have), but this kind of fusion potentially does not put as much pressure on your L3. Well, I failed to qualify for the trial, but I still wanted Dr. Nomoto to perform a minimally invasive L4 L5 fusion on me regardless. After being in the hospital for five days and feeling like I had been impaled on a sword, I immediately was walking again after a 3 1/2 hours long surgery. Yet astoundingly by week three, I forget that I ever had lower chronic pain for over a decade! Here I am a year later post-surgery, and I am so glad that I didn't listen to any of those Pain Management doctors regarding spinal surgeries-the techniques have improved so greatly! And with such a fantastic surgeon like Dr. Nomoto, you'll get your life back without having to go to all of those other endless appointments that never resolve your pain permanently. His excellence as a surgeon will make you feel completely comfortable and confident in your decision, and like other reviewers have noted in their previous comments, Dr. Nomoto is "minus the pompous surgeon 'tude!" Finally, I don't care about having some loud, boastful, flashy office where you have to wait 90 minutes for your appointment time either. I came to Dr. Nomoto in 2019 dealing with a herniated disc between my L5 and S1. The pain was so much so that I could barely walk and my left leg was starting to shrink. Even with all the pain I was still skeptical and scared about surgery but after talking to Dr. Nomoto I felt more at ease about it. He really helped me understand what was going on and answered every question I had. But I think what really sealed my trust was when I said I wanted to have surgery and he told me "Let's get you feeling better". It's simple but it was just so reassuring and I remember waking up in the recovery room after surgery and thinking "Oh that's what it feels like to not be in pain." First, to be clear, Dr. Nomoto is excellent. The star reductions is for the office. They deserve zero. I had filled out long forms, copies of insurance, written out back pain issues and emailed to them in advance. The receptionist emailed back saying received and filed. When I went for my appointment in Santa Monica office, I was told they don't have it. (Also bad energy). So I had to do it all over again even though I showed email proof. Then I went in for x-ray and meeting with doctor Nomoto. He was very helpful. I was told I would get copy of x-ray results. I did not get it for a month, so I called them, and they sent me copy of old x-ray results that I had provided myself, from another doctor. Called and emailed again requesting the updated results from their own office. It's almost two months, and I still have not received it. I need it for physical therapy and epidural, and that is being delayed. I'm wondering if the office lost that too. read more

My mom had severe pain in her lower back and left leg. She couldn't sleep, sit or walk normally. It was terrifying to see her suffering and she is not first to complain. So we scheduled an appointment with Dr. Nomoto. We had few consultations with him and we were given options to do physical therapy and/or do injections to ease the pain or to do a spinal surgery. Dr Nomoto performed a disk decompression for me on two disks in my lower back earlier this month. He was very patient in explaining the process and what the procedure would be (and what other procedures might need to be done once the surgery was underway and he got a closer look at the actual areas of the surgery). Dr. Nomoto is a stellar surgeon. I had an 8mm L4/L5 disc herniation from a basketball injury with chronic radicular sciatica that persisted for two years until I finally had a consultation with Dr. Nomoto. I was referred to him from my pain management doctor, who said that he recommends Dr. Nomoto to friends and family. Prior to the surgery, I had received epidural injections every 4-6 months from my pain management doctor, which provided temporary relief, but inevitably was not effective at healing my problem. When I met with Dr. Nomoto, I was very impressed by his confidence in the solution to my problem being a microdiscectomy. I was wary of getting surgery and had put it off for two years, but due to his explanation of why my problem was not getting better, I immediately scheduled surgery. I experienced minor relief after the surgery and was in a decent amount of sciatic pain for 6-8 weeks, but it was totally worth every second. I also could not bend, lift, or twist (especially twisting) for 3 months. Again, totally worth the work required. Being on top of recovery is super important and I found that doing a very decent amount of walking greatly helped. I am now 5 months out from surgery and am 80-90 percent pain free. I go on 10 mile runs every week and play basketball, golf, volleyball and even bowling. As I continue to do physical therapy, the pain continues to decrease and the mobility continues to increase. After having sciatica for several months and learning some very serious results from my lumbar spine MRI, I finally got to meet, Dr. Edward Nomoto after going through four three other opinions for surgery. I was really fed up and tired and in pain. The previous surgeons were in a hurry, going to lunch with some buddies, asked for lots of money up front, and the first had me squat to look at my MRI while he sat in his desk chair! I met Dr. Nomoto by accident and, I have to say it's the best thing thats happened to me. I was looking at losing the use of my right lower extremity due to my spinal cord being strangled. The doctor I was supposed to see wasn't taking insurance any longer, and was asked if I wouldn't mind seeing, Dr. Nomoto. I met him briefly in an elevator the day before making the appointment. It was meant to be. Initially, I was extremely nervous to meet him considering what I had gone through in my previous consults. I was impressed, and touched with the amount of concern and time he spent with me on our first meeting. He was very serious and listened to everything I had to say. We went over the MRI, x-rays. and come to find out I had a potential problem with my cervical spine. I had to have an additional MRI of my cervical spine, and a CT to see if I could have a anterior & posterior fusion done which was better with the amount of damage I had, and the high likelihood I was going to have nerve damage. I took a friend who's like family with me to my second appointment. Dr Nomoto spent two hours with us, explaining everything, what needed to be done, why, the pros and cons. I was blown away by the thoroughness of everything. It was like I had taken Lumbar & Cervical Spine 101 A & B. His sincerity and kindness were very evident as well as how serious he is about caring for those who come to see him. My friend(family)/advocate was positively blown away as well by the amount of time he spent with us. She too has worked in the medical field, so we both get the jitters. I did elect to go with Dr. Nomoto for my surgery. It was very long and everything went extremely well. I was in surgery eight hours @ Cedars'. Dr "Eddie" as I call him took wonderful care of me. He saw me in the hospital and doesn't leave town when he has patients in the hospital. He also was easily accessible once I was discharged home several days later and post-operatively. I will never be able to thank, Dr. Eddie enough for what he has done for me. Most people know that spine surgeries don't go well often, and it's important to be very communicative with your medical team which I am, and vice versa. He worked very well with my primary doctor @ Cedars', and all the professional nursing ,PT, OT staff there as well. It's all very involved and is definitely not just a quick fix. I committed to Dr. Nomoto just as much as he committed to me. I will say Dr. Eddie is much more communicative than many who work in the same speciality as he does. I'm forever grateful for that, and especially what I went through to find him, which I can now say I'm glad I did. I am very picky, and am glad I am because I do feel I deserve the best medical care. I'm having him take care of my cervical fusion as well. Dr. Eddie has never rushed me out of the office. He gives me all the time I need. I was diagnosed with a L4-L5 disc herniation and was told by one doctor that I would need my spine fused. I did research and was impressed with Dr. Nomoto's background. I went in for a consultation and he assured me I would not need a spinal fusion. He scheduled me for a micro-discectomy in March 2017 and as of today, I am pain free! It took some work in therapy and 3 months of no bending, lifting, or twisting, but as of today I am running 3-5 miles, weightlifting, and even took on a kickboxing conditioning class. Dr. Nomoto is as good as they get. If you are hesitant, consult with a couple other physicians, and you will see why Dr. Nomoto is good at what he does. Keep in mind that spine surgery is more of an art-science, not so much a science per se. I trust Dr. Nomoto for what he's done for me and the skill he possesses. I was hoping Dr. Nomoto could help me with cervical surgery. I have spurs, and herniated disc on C7. Before surgery Dr. Nomoto sent me to a series of appointments (other doctors) to see if I was a good candidate for surgery. "The Investigator" that he sent me to today, said "the main reason for all my pain is that I am taking too much pain medication". I asked them to then prescribe the correct amount of pain mediation, but instead they recommended that I go spend a week in the hospital to detox. Dr. Nomoto will not help you with pain and is too afraid of losing his license. I wasted two months waiting to have surgery with Dr. Nomoto whom does not return your emails or calls. read more

Today was my one year follow-up with Dr. Nomoto after he performed a double fusion on my spine last March. I can't say enough good things about him. In addition to being an incredibly skilled surgeon, he's extremely kind and patient. His office staff is always so nice - from the people who schedule the appointments to the nurses who do the interview/take your blood pressure to Alex who does the x-rays. He personally called me at home the next week to see how I was doing, and then again when I came down with a fever the following week. So nice. He also answered some questions I wrote him over e-mail. I'm incredibly grateful to have found such a good and caring doctor. When I first went to him, I was in absolutely unbelievable pain 24/7 - except for my fingertips which were numb. I was so beyond miserable. Dr. Nomoto may be the best back specialist in Los Angeles, but I'll never know because he has absolutely no consideration for a patient's time. My wife had an appointment to see him at 9:20 this morning. We waited until 10:40, one hour and twenty minutes, at which time he still hadn't seen us. We asked his assistant if he could please come out of his office to let us know how long he would be. He never did. He wouldn't give us that simple courtesy. So we left. I know physicians are notorious for keeping patients waiting and valuing their own time more than their patients. But common courtesy should have at least dictated he come out of his office to apologize, let us know he's running late, and give us the choice of waiting or re-scheduling. If you have time to burn, by all means go see Dr. Nomoto. But if you want to see a doctor who will value your time, you may want to look elsewhere. read more

I called Dr. Nomotos office because I was in a great deal of pain due to my sciatica. I was looking to commit to a doctor that could help me work towards restoring my mobility and quality of life. I was told at the time that I would have to wait nearly 3 weeks to get in so I agreed to tough it out till then. The day before my appointment I received a call letting me know that the doctor was going to be late and could I come in for a later appointment, I agreed. Then, the day of my appointment and just a few hours before I was supposed to be there I was told that the doctor would not be in at all that day and I would have to reschedule for two more weeks out. I explained that I had been waiting in pain for almost three weeks and was met with a cold response of maybe try scheduling something at his other office. Dr. Nomoto and his staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. He performed a microdiscectomy on my L5-S1. I was fully recovered in 4-6 months and able to run, lift, play sports, and do all the activities i was used to doing before the injury. I am writing this at 14 months post surgery and i still feel great. The whole staff was very knowledgeable and concerned with coming up with the best plan for me. My surgery was performed one month before my wedding and I was able to walk down the aisle without any pain!
