I had my first ACL reconstruction surgery in 2021 and had a rough recovery. I was having issues with my knee, not quite sure why. In 2024, I found Dr. Nissanoff and went with his course of treatment, which helped, but I was still having issues with my knee. Fast forward a few months, I had pain and knew that I tore my ACL (again). He listened and requested an MRI right away. Had the scan done within two weeks and he received the results. He confirmed that my ACL was torn and needed surgery. This time, Dr. Nissanoff would be performing the procedure. My recovery experience was the complete opposite of what I experienced the first time. The staff in the recovery room were very helpful as well. After the first few days of post op, hardly any pain, even now at 10 weeks post op. Dr Nissanoff actually listens to your concerns and doesn't brush them off. No one likes breaking bones but sometimes let's face it, shit happens. So when I crashed a mountain bike, breaking my collarbone into multiple pieces, severing some muscles along with it for good measure, I needed medical assistance ASAP. I really didn't have time to shop around for a surgeon. This wasn't a nose job, this was my shoulder snapped in half, bulging out of my back. Not exactly time for a second opinion, just cross my fingers that the on-call knew what he was doing... Enter Dr Nissanoff. Within minutes I could tell I was in good hands. There was no doubt in his voice, his plans were matter of fact as he told me what was going to happen, no hesitation. He'd apparently done this surgery a number of times and actually specialized in shoulder and clavicle injuries. Other surgeons in that hospital ask him to operate on them when needed, so if someone was going to cut me open it might as well be the man that other professionals trust the most. It's now just shy of a month after the surgery and I feel far better than I thought possible. I figured my summer was screwed, anticipating months of slings and pain. Little did I know I'd be in physical therapy by week three, back to about 95% range of motion by week four, and only a little stiffness/soreness here and there. I have a plate and nine screws holding all the pieces of my collarbone together but beyond that I feel exceptional, my chest and back muscles were reattached with very skilled hands. Time and time again I hear encouraging words, "Wow, your surgeon really stitched that well, you'll barely have a scar!" Lately it's been. "How are you practically back to normal in four weeks?" Yesterday it was "They had you lifting *weights* in physical therapy? Already??" I'd like to bullshit and pretend I have super healing powers, that I'm just magically about four weeks ahead of schedule in physical therapy, but I'm not going to steal the credit here. My trust in Dr Nissanoff was obviously well founded, and for that I thank him. If someone is granted the time to shop around for a surgeon, I'd recommend him without hesitation. What I would NOT recommend is crashing a mountain bike on a trail of rocks at about 25 miles per hour, especially if you have to hike a mile and a half out to the road in shitty cycling shoes afterwards. Our 17 year old son severely injured his right wrist about six weeks ago. Unfortunately, his first doctor mis-diagnosed and failed to detect any fracture upon review of x-rays. Thereafter, as discomfort persisted, we decided to seek second opinion yesterday from Dr. Nissanoff. Best decision ever. After a thorough examination and review of x-rays, Dr. Nissanoff called me and explained that our son had, in fact, sustained fracture of a small, but important, vertical bone in his right wrist. In light of the significant passage of time since the fracture, Dr. Nissanoff told me to bring our son back after office hours in order to immobilize right wrist in an immediate manner. Dr. Nissanoff wanted to return back to his office, late at night, from his hospital duties just to put our son's wrist in a cast! During our late night office visit, Dr. Nissanoff said that although a surgical option exists, if our son were his son, he would immobilize the wrist for six weeks in hopes of avoiding surgery! We have top-tier health insurance, but this doctor wasn't at all interested in making more money out of our son and the situation. Simply put, Dr. Nissanoff is not a regular doctor. HE TREATS HIS PATIENTS LIKE FAMILY. HE IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY OUTSTANDING DOCTOR AND AN EXCEPTIONALLY OUTSTANDING HUMAN BEING. Dr Nissanoff saved my life. Four days after a very successful ACL reconstructive surgery I was experiencing symptoms. Increased swelling in my leg and shortness of breath. I suspected something was wrong and I emailed Dr Nissanoff my symptoms. He responded to my email within minutes at a late hour and was able to diagnose a blood clot. He directed me to go the emergency room right away and take two aspirin. I followed his directions and once I got to the emergency room they found a blood clot that had moved from my leg into my chest. I was treated in the emergency room and it was identified early enough before it became life threatening. Stubbed my toe hard on a Sat night and knew it was broken just from the pain. My husband found a 24 hour Orthopedic Urgent Care. Left a message and Dr. Nissanoff called back in 2 min. Wait, what? It's a Sunday. He asked us to call him when we were at ER-St. John's Providence in Santa Monica. It took us 31 min. We arrived and I called him. He sent me a Telehealth link and said I should be on my way to get the X-ray. Two min later someone comes to get my X-ray. I call the doctor after X-ray is done and he sends Telehealth link 2 min later. He tells me my toe is broken and he will come down to put it in it's spot. How efficient is he? Meanwhile, ER doc comes in and tries to send me home. I said Dr. Nissanoff is coming now to put me in place and she says I don't need that. I tell her obviously my toe is facing another direction and doctor is coming now. Dr. Nissanoff numbs my foot. Puts my toe in place. Tapes me up. Sends me to X-ray to make sure it's straight. In the middle of X-ray, he takes a peek at my toe image and says it's straight and says he will see me in 2 weeks. What should have taken 5 hours not including wait time because of Covid, only took 2.25 hours. Also, every single hospital staff said Dr. Nissanoff was the nicest doctor they get to work with. He really is. I can tell he loves his job. I can tell that he's exceptional at what he does. I'm referring everyone to him because of how proactive and efficient he is. read more

I had a surgery scheduled with Dr. Nissanoff, and a week before I emailed Heidi asking for the address where the surgery would take place, but I got no response. One day before, still no response, the day off, the surgery got cancelled because Heidi had not provided any of my info to the hospital. He's almost on time each time, x-rays done in the same building, so it's very convenient. He works with most insurances so no issue on that side either. Follow up appointments were great too. Incredible and talented physician. My wife had a knee replacement by another orthopedist that did not go well, Dr. Nissanoff found the problem right away and in a 10 minute porcedure removed two encapsulated bone fragments around the knee joint that apparently were the result of the original operation . He also cleaned up the knee area nicely and the scar looks much better and smoother. Dr. Nissanoff is very professional, speaks plain, clear English to patients (not technical gibberish), and as a bonus has a terrific sense of humor. I also had a procedure done by Dr. Nissanoff for a wrist ganglion cyst and that went very well with a quick recovery time. My primary care physician referred me to Dr. Nissanoff and said he is the cream of the crop in orthopedics and my experience certainly bears that out. read more

TL;DR? This is the doctor for you. I never thought I'd be writing a review for a knee surgeon. I was in Instructor Training at Krav Maga Worldwide, when I was pulled off balance and felt three snaps in the back of my knee. Being the stubborn person that I am, I attempted to train on said knee until our lead instructor highly suggested I go to the ER. I wasn't able to walk and was in tears when I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Nissanoff. He had been at the hospital checking in on a patient when I came in, and was kind enough to take time out of his busy day to examine me. When he told me he believed I had a torn meniscus and possibly other issues, I scoffed at him, and told him it was probably a sprain. Of course, an MRI later, I quickly learned that I am NOT a doctor. The MRI showed I had completely torn my ACL, partially torn my MCL and just like Nisanhoff had said, I tore my meniscus as well. When Nisanhoff told me surgery would be necessary, I started bawling. He was very comforting and sincere during my whole emotional melt-down and calmly explained the process of the surgery and helped me make my decisions as to whether I wanted to stay in California (out-of-state training -- I'm from Texas) and what he could do to help in any situation. I've never met a doctor before that actually seemed to CARE so much about his patients, and given his recommendations on Yelp, as well as his phenomenal bed side manner, I knew that this was my surgeon. Nisanhoff knew I was only here for the next week, and moved his entire schedule around to fit me in, in order to help. He had some kind of convention in San Diego (San Francisco... one of the San's) the next day, and could not get me in, but was able to get me in the day after. Even though he had his convention, he was still kind enough to come check on me the night before surgery after hours, just to see how I was emotionally and physically doing. He was very positive and reassuring, and come the next day, did an amazing job with my surgery. I am still recovering, but everything is healing up nicely, and I'm pretty certain I'll have very minimal scarring as well. If you're in need of a surgeon, this is your guy. The first doctor I went to told me that my ruptured biceps femoris tendon was too rare of a surgery and he's never done it before. Because I am only 19 he told me that I would be fine. I found Dr. Nissanoff online and let me tell you, best blessing to have found it's way into my life. I was in excruciating pain and the first day I saw him, I received an injection that temporarily made the pain subside. He diagnosed me with a snapping BF tendon and wanted to confirm there was nothing else wrong with an MRI. We discovered it was completely torn but the doctor didn't flinch for one second. He showed me how large the scar would be and said he would do his best to make it as small as possible. I had my surgery at Cedars Hospital the last week of March and everything went perfectly! He noticed that I also tore my meniscus so he fixed that while he was in there as well! When I returned home from the hospital I didn't take one pain medication given to me. The pain was not as bad as I had expected and it was manageable. Currently I am 6 weeks post op, my scar is half the size of the image he showed me would be done, I am walking without any brace or crutch, I am pain free and the only restriction I have is no squatting or bending my knee past 90°. I don't understand how Dr. Nissanoff even gets a bad review. He knows what he is doing. I went to see him for my knee sprain, and found out that my meniscus was torn after 2 months of injury. I was in crutches for 2 months. Dr. Nissanoff took care of it with an arthroscopy which is way too minimal than any invasive surgery. After only 2 weeks of surgery I was able to walk without crutches and I feel like I got a new life. He listens to your problems and understand and suggests you many options. He is very friendly and actually care for his patients. Patients who complain about wait time, here's what I would like to say, "He is taking care of another patient just like you without looking at the clock, while you have to wait 30 minutes to an hour longer. Be glad because you will get same level of care without rushing you out to take another appointment," I had no health insurance so he suggested me to apply for financial hardship. He made no issue about money before or after surgery knowing that I have no health insurance or enough income. So he's definitely no in it for money.
