This was one of the most demoralizing doctor visits I've ever had. Went in with my 3 year old. Office was nice and staff was very friendly. They took us to the examination room to wait for the doctor. When Dr. Laurance showed up he didn't even introduce himself, just appeared in the doorway and said 'can you put her there?' pointing to a scale in the hall. I had to ask if he was the doctor. He made literally ZERO effort to speak to my child AT ALL. He talked at me without eye contact for about 10 minutes, prattling off a rote memorized script while scribbling on a printout of intestines. He was extremely averse to me communicating in any way. When I asked a question at the end of his recitation he glared at me, scolded me for asking about something he had 'already told me' and said 'don't fight me on this.' He then pre-scolded me for not doing what he prescribed (???) and sent me off with the comment 'take care of your daughter.' The entire visit was awful. Why is he in pediatrics????? I'm honestly so relieved to see all these other identical horrible reviews because at least I'm not crazy for how upset I felt from this person. I took my daughter here about 8 years ago had a great experience she needed a procedure and it was flawless then I took my younger daughter not to long ago and he was able to help her as well. And we were seen in Pomona for follow ups as it was closer to my house then Sierra Madre. read more

Whatever you do don't take your child here. After having a child with a small bowel obstruction and being hospitalized she was referred to Dr. Laurance. He saw her in person once and for a whole year after it was a monthly follow up over the phone. No in person checkups but only a 2 minute call. Anyway. My daughter was put on a medication that was slowly being weaned off each month (huge mistake) Moving forward to last month a new doctor took over and after another over the phone appointment he asked about my daughters Bowel Movements. I did say she had a very irregular bowel movement with about 1 to 2 bowel movements a week. He advised me to continue treatment and that 1 bowel movement was completely normal. My Daughter ended up in the hospital with another bowel obstruction and huge backup which required hospitalization and a 5 day clean out. Hospital staff was so upset because it was absolutely wrong to misinform me that my daughter was ok. Coming from a professional and taking his advice I never would have thought I would be going thru this. I called the office to inform them I wouldn't be taking her back and explained the situation to the front desk receptionist. She said it's not something he would say but not that I'm not telling the truth. Like He absolutely did say that but of course she wasn't there listening in so she he should have kept that comment to herself. Regardless I do not by any mean recommend this office. read more

If I can give 0 stars I would. Very unpleasant Doctor, Made me feel like a bad mother. No visual contact with Me. Talked to my kids like I was invisible. Asked me if my kids had blood studies, I said "No" thinking it was something more intense than regular blood work. I apologized for me not knowing, he responded with "Im concerned you don't know your Kids had blood studies Done". Worst feeling ever. I wish I was never referred to him by my kids pediatrician. He made me feel stupid for asking questions, And a bad Mom. Did not give a straight answer to what I was asking. Don't recommend this doctor at all. She will turn patients away that are in need of medical services because she is petty & unprofessional. Instead of leaning from a situation she will hold a grudge & deny medical services to a child but I guess she lacks the ability to see that if any further harm comes to that child due to her negligence she will be personally liable & she can opening the door to legal issues. Walked in the room said I'm short staffed so if you don't have blood work I can't see you !! We told him the dr faxed them over!! 5. Times just to make sure u received them!!!! And all he said is again I'm short staffed I don't have time to go check the faxes or wait on the phone with your dr. so u can just come back and walked out!!! If I could give no stars I would. All the low star reviews are absolutely true. I still went to my appointment even after seeing the reviews to give this place the benefit of the doubt. I would never recommend this doctor to any parent. I was referred to by my pediatrician and this doctor should not even practice medicine. He was quick to diagnose without any tests or further assessments and quick to give medication. He had an attitude and wouldn't even look at me face to face just looking down. Any doctor working with children should care for them and be kind to parents. Horrible place I am not following his diagnosis or medications. He should get his doctor license taken away. read more

Today was my son's first visit, a very clean and nice office. The front office staff was fast and very kind. Dr Laurence was very efficient and thorough with his care. Explained everything very well and ruled out some main concerns. His detail to his care is very unique and appreciated. The check out secretary was very helpful and kind. I was checking reviews the night before, and to come across so many negative comments was about to change my mind. I am so proud of myself for following my own choice to give them a try. None of what these comments said were an issue, in fact everything was the exact opposite. I highly suggest you try this office for yourself before following people's personal responses to their own negative experience. Because at the end of the day the experience starts with patients and family. Come in with a positive attitude then the experience of an already scary situation will seem so much better. Took my son to see Dr.Laurance today after being unable to recieve answers for his abdominal pain which now had brought on other symptoms. Extremely pleased with our visit. The Doctor took his time and explained "In Detail" his thoughts and recommendations. He was very kind and extremely knowledgeable and proffessional. The office staff was also very friendly and proffessional. My son was called in as soon as the first time visit paperwork was filled out. Not a long wait in room either. The worst part about everything is during my sons exam the doctor said he has a heart murmur has anyone told you and I said no, immediately concerned of course and he says I will have my office fax a note over to his pediatrician. I walked out of the room told my sister what he said and she checked the notes for my sons file and he didn't even put it in the notes! This doctor and the Alpha Care Medical Group are unethical! They were aware that my sister's daughter was scheduled for a treatment, but they failed to inform them that she required a Covid-19 test conducted before to the procedure. They tried to claim that everything was put down on the first papers they gave her, but it was all in English, and they knew my sister can't read or understand the language! Plus they had the audacity to tell her she now, owes $100 for their error. My sister now needs to go through the full procedure process all over again in order to get my niece back on the procedure list! This is completely absurd! It was a horrible experience! My niece was diagnosed with one gallstone at first, but thanks to this office and doctor., she now has many stones. He should not be allowed to practice medicine. My sister does not have private medical insurance, and I believe this office discriminated against her because of it. SMH read more

My daughter swallowed a marble and instead of going to the emergency room, like my pediatrician suggested, Dr. Laurance was able to see me that same day! We ended up leaving and terminating his care for my son. We didn't get very far. Dr L didn't believe that diet would help alleviate my son's condition. Even after I told him I've done some research. It's been a few years and my son is still suffering and was placed on medication that wasn't meant to be long term. I think he's a good dr for treating symptoms. But not really getting to the root of the problem. He's quick to medicate. He's a kind dr just didn't make sense why he didn't think going gluten, or dairy free would help. We are now with another GI dr and she's suggested a diet and immediately weening my son off of the medications. Kim is awesome and very helpful. read more

I have been taking my son to doctor Laurence for over 4 years now. He has always been outstanding. He wants to get to the root of the problem not just mask it with medication. He hears my concerns and doesn't make me feel guilty for them. I was concerned about forcing an enema on my son and he heard my concerns and let me take a different route before doing an enema. He is very gentle and nice to my son(very important when your child has a slight fear of doctors). I completely trust this doctor with my child. I have a strong intuition and I just know when a doctor is not good. I'm so glad we found doctor Laurence. We love coming to the Sierra Madre office because we go to the library next door and pick out free books they have in the back of the building. Then we get ice cream at mother moo's. My little sister was referred by her pediatrician after she found something concerning in her lab work. My mom took my sister to a first time appt and she said the doctor was very cold and stand-offish. Doctor said he had to do a liver biopsy and my mom set an appt at the hospital only to find out the day of it would be done by a different doctor , my mom was never made aware of this. After the biopsy I went with her for a follow up in 2 weeks. As a healthcare worker I was very disappointed in Dr. Laurance attitude. He said what they found in the biopsy and I asked maybe 1 or 2 questions such as "is this reversible ?" He answered my questions with a finishing touch of "do you guys understand that ? I don't think you understand but it doesn't matter" and I think he said this about twice LOL... excuse me ? It does matter. As a medical doctor if you think we don't understand why won't you delight us with understanding so we can better take care of my sister. He also found it helpful to send her to a nutritionist but later on when we found through the insurance company he IS a licensed nutritionist ?? Confused about that... to say the least we left unhappy, only to meet with her referring pediatrician who said the office faxed nothing quite helpful. There was no defined 'diagnosis' in the notes. We told this to the office and asked for them to make a clear diagnosis, which pediatrician was asking for. Again, they faxed the same notes with no diagnosis. I ended up asking for a referral somewhere else. read more

I thought that Dr. Laurence was very nice , but he prescribed things very quickly. My child has a heart condition and one of the medicines prescribed said to not use with a heart condition. I ended up not using anything he prescribed. I would always check with my primary doctor and she was confused by a lot of things that I was being told to do. I felt that the methods used were what were used on every child. It didn't seem like the time was taken to really get down to the bottom of my child's problem. I also personally didn't like that he cussed during our appointments.( I especially do not like the word b**ch, which he used)He also assumed my child would give me a hard time as they got older. My child is very young and wouldn't understand, but I find it very unprofessional being a children's doctor to cuss during an appointment. read more

1 star Pediatric Gastroenterologist Office that deserves 0 stars and shut out of business since its an establishment based on "business" and not actual care. Brought my son in to see a Gastroenterologist with a scheduled appointment but waited over an hour. After the long wait I said I no longer will wait and asked for a refund on my deductible. I was asked "isn't it important that he see's the Doctor for the issues he's been having". I Answered: Yes, I brought him in to be seen and it was at the exact time where he needed it most while in pain. If anyone in the office including the Doctor were at all concerned and believed it was important, he should have been seen right away. Yet, 3 patients that came in after were sent in the rooms to be seen before us. Anyone seeking care for their child should steer away from the services provided by the office and its personnel . There's much more i'd like to add but it'll only reflect and entail you that it's bad practice. read more

If I can still rate Dr. Laurence without giving any stars, I would. My husband and I took our 8 week old son to his office today and very much regret it. We are new parents and our son has had reflux issues since week 2. We have worked with our pediatrician every week to find a solution to comfort our son. Nothing had really worked, so our next step was seeing a pediatric GI. The office staff was kind and helpful. However, as soon as Dr. Laurence walked in, he was very cold. He seemed very annoyed, even though we were literally the only patients in the office ( the office said there were a ton of cancellations due to heavy rain). We explained to him our sons issues and he said that we don't have enough evidence for blood work, stool tests etc. I stated I felt like we have tried everything. He quickly replies, " You haven't. What do you want from me and I'll do it. You do know I don't work magic" . As a doctor, you should want to comfort your patients that they are making the best decision and guide them to find a cure/ solution . What if what I wanted was not good for my child? He threw out some medication to us and had me look at the fine print to confirm it's safe for babies. As soon as the doctor walked out, I cried bc we didn't get any answers and felt completely helpless and wasted $200. read more

I could not be happier with the care and attention my son receives from Dr. Laurance and his staff. My son is Autistic and basically non-verbal and it took a while to discover what his ailment was (eventually diagnosed as Crohn's Disease) and it was Dr. Laurance's thoughtful and confident approach that helped put me at ease and believe he would be able to to help my son. He is very thorough during our appointments and he and his staff show a genuine fondness towards my son that my wife and I will always be grateful for. What also impresses me is Dr. Laurance's responsiveness even when he's away from the office. When things seemed bad with our son, he's taken our panicked calls and reassured us while also dispensing excellent advice. It was a process of trial and error but I feel we are on the right path as I have seen dramatic improvements with my son just in these last few days and we're indebted to Dr. Laurance for giving our son his life back. He's becoming the handful he used to be before the symptoms presented themselves and I couldn't be happier. His office staff fight for our son with the insurance companies and pharmacies with what I can only describe as borderline ferocity and my wife having witnessed this more first hand cannot stop talking about how amazing they are. read more

Another specialist said my 8 year old son needed surgery. I went to Dr. Laurance and he said surgery was absolutely not necessary. He was so kind and so helpful I just broke down crying in his office. My son went through a year of abdominal pain before we switched to Dr. Laurance. Dr. Laurance worked gently and carefully with medications- even calling our insurance company to fight them when they refused to pay for a higher dosage. He got my son well and was was patient and thorough and kind every step of the way. This was 10 years ago and I am still deeply grateful for this doctor. read more

Worst, worst doctor ever for children!!! I completely agreed with Anil P. My daughter is 6 years old. He gave the same medicines as Anil P. He over dosage my daughter with medications. The pharmacist was having a hard time supplying those medications. The pharmacist suggest that I should go to children hospital to get a second opinion. My daughter was having very bad side effects that she end up in ER. It took over 6 weeks to get all the medications out of your system. Be aware of all the medications you get.
