I go in for an annual check, to make sure there's no skin cancer or other unwelcome skin conditions. I never have a long wait -- if any at all -- when I go into the office, which is run very efficiently it seems to me. And the staff are nice. Dr. Stolar is always impeccably dressed, has a cheery demeanor, engages in brief conversation (kind of "catch up" conversation) -- which is nice -- and gets to his inspection. When I have questions or concerns, he always addresses them and is willing to offer advice / solutions / referrals. And although the office offers many other services, there is never a "hard sell" to try this or that. All told, a very pleasant experience. read more

Without going into great detail about the minor scalp issue I had been receiving care over by a well known dermatologist of Atlanta, GA (a phenomenal relationship that I maintained for the three years I lived near Buckhead), I was immediately taken aback by how short Dr. Edward Stolar was with me. My first experience was in transferring medical records from my Atlanta derma to Dr. Stolar. My records had been shipped to Stolar well in advance of my first appointment and I was frustrated to hear from the front desk that Stolar would be seeing me without any of the pathology reports or other data points as a starting point. His first response was instead of continuing my prior doctors' treatment to instead prescribe me oral antibiotics - which I repeatedly told Stolar had been ineffectual in the past - and Stolar quickly took on an attitude of "doctor knows best" and he proceeded with a very sharp demeanor. After being told to come back and see him once my scalp had gotten "considerably worse" - at my expense - I decided to ask the receptionist again if my records were available as I was on my way out the door. Sure enough, they were this time and I was told to go back into the exam room. Dr. Stolar was visibly frustrated to see me just 15 minutes after he had dismissed me and said he still wanted to see me once my scalp had flared up again and he still disagreed with my Atlanta derma's diagnosis. I came back to see Dr. Stolar about 6 weeks later after my scalp had gotten very irritated. He was mildly pleasant but let me know at that time that he really was unsure of my actual condition and whatever it was, it was likely incurable. I should continue using the solution that my Atlanta derma had given me - he proceeded to instruct - and he tried to guess at the solution despite being given the actual blend of ingredients from the Atlanta derma's in-house pharmacy. I continued to use the prescription provided by my Atlanta derma since Stolar was out of ideas. On my third and final visit to the office, I had a full body mole check (normal dermas take about 20 minutes to do this; Stolar took about 5 minutes). I was rushed out the door yet again. At this point, I was ready to switch practices. Stolar and I obviously had incompatible personalities. As I treat my dermatologist relationship on the same level as my PCP, I wanted to make sure I had a quality provider on my side. I am in the process of switching to another DC-based, board-certified dermatologist. I asked Stolar's office to have only my last appointment's records switched to the new doctor. I was told there would be a $25 fee for record transfer. That was the last straw. I've never heard of a medical transfer fee - especially for just notes on a recent visit. I will not be recommending friends or family to the practice of Dr. Edward Stolar on the basis of his needlessly cold beside manner. read more

I went to see Dr. Stolar about a bunch of small plantar warts. Having seen him for two treatments, I'd say the mixed reviews are justified. The reviews attesting to the short wait times are accurate; both times I've gone in, my wait time has been less than 10 minutes! Not bad. The front office staff are all right; sometimes they are swamped with phone calls and paperwork, but they have never been rude or cold to me. Some of the reviews on Dr. Stolar's bedside manner and overly rushed patient interactions are also accurate. Don't expect him to be in the exam room with you for long. He's very no-nonsense, for better or for worse. In my case, he asked a few quick questions about my warts, took a 10 second look at my foot, spent 3 minutes applying the liquid nitrogen treatment, told me to come back in 3 weeks, and then left. Same thing the next time I came in. I appreciate that he didn't keep me waiting too long, but it felt like too short of an interaction. I didn't have a chance to ask questions, and he didn't explain what he was doing and why he was doing it. He just sort of...did what he did and left. Come back in 3 weeks for what? How many rounds of liquid nitrogen treatment might I need? What are the side effects and complications, and how do I deal with them? Nothing was explained to me. When I noticed later on that a big, really painful blood blister had developed on the sole of my foot after my treatment, I felt a bit annoyed that Dr. Stolar hadn't given me a sense of how I might deal with a potential after-effect like that, much less that such a bad blister might happen at all. I had to delay a planned vacation at almost the last minute, take time off from work, and subsist on delivery food and microwaved leftovers because I couldn't walk for a week. I really, really wish Dr. Stolar would spend more time with his patients instead of rushing in and out of the door. He should take a couple of minutes to explain his recommended treatment and any potential side effects/complications, and then ask the patient if they are okay with what he wants to do and if they have any questions. He shouldn't assume that his patients know much about the treatment they're getting or about the side effects. Comforting patients' anxiety/worries is also crucial, especially when pain and cosmetic concerns are at issue, but at no point did he try to gauge if I had concerns or reassure me about any of them. I get that he has other patients to see, but if he's rushing to see all of them, then a lot of them besides me will also feel left in the lurch. I would have been okay with waiting an additional 5 or 10 minutes for him if it meant that he was spending more time with the patient before me (and, in turn, more time with me). read more

Dr. Stolar is great. He is an old school dermatologist who clearly stays current on his training and is abreast of developments in his field. He always answers all of my questions thoroughly and presents me with options, as well as his recommendations. I don't go to a board certified physician for his or her pretty waiting room so that's not an issue for me. I will say there is plenty of seating and reading material. The only time I ever had an excessive wait was when I was late, which was certainly not the fault of Dr. Stolar or his office staff. I find the office staff to be competent and thorough. I've never had a problem with anyone's attitude there but again, I'm not there to be coddled, even when the treatment I seek is cosmetic. Nothing I experienced left me concerned about the safety of my financial or medical information. You may notice that my review responds to points made by other reviews for Dr. Stolar. I don't review places or services very often, but a few of these reviews differed so extremely from my experience that I felt compelled to share. You may also be interested to know that I've referred several friends and colleagues to Dr. Stolar over the years and I've heard positive feedback from them. I've also seen Dr. Dadlani (sp?) here and she was thorough, knowledgeable, helpful, and likable. read more

Would you trust a bunch of unprofessional and rude people to handle your privacy, financial information, or sensitive test results? I went to see Dr. Todd Perkins who works in Dr. Stolar's office. Dr. Perkins was fine, but the whole experience in this office was one of the worst I have ever had. First, the office itself appears designed to insult its patients. The waiting room is run down. However, the main problem was the rude, arrogant, nasty, and highly unprofessional receptionist staff. The message they strove to convey was that all us stupid patients were waiting in THEIR office space and had better just shut up and do as we were told. Nice. Seriously, the receptionist staff was so surly and unprofessional, I would never recommend this doctor's office to anybody. Go anyplace else. I mean, would you trust a bunch of unprofessional and rude people to handle your privacy or sensitive test results? No, of course not. Until Drs. Stolar and Perkins can be bothered to get a good staff (costs money but worth it), I cannot recommend this doctor's office. Talk about no bedside manner! read more

He has great patient rapport, listens carefully to any skin questions or concerns you have, and is an excellent dermatologist all around. Over the years, I have had a few skin issues unrelated to cancer and each time his treatment has been excellent with full resolution of the condition. I went to see Dr. Stolar various times over several years. My first visit was a baseline review for skin cancers and the subsequent were for treatment for a skin condition. I should have known by the first visit that I would be better off finding a new physician, but he was close and I didn't have to wait too long in the lounge before being seen, so I stayed. The first visit Dr. Stolar told me that based on where I'm from, CO, I was not a likely candidate for skin cancer. He then proceeded to tell me that what I should be considering was Botox, as he could do the injections and halt the development of the few lines I was developing on my forehead. The problem? I was 31!!! I had only faint lines, and I had never considered, nor asked for such a treatment. When I went back years later for, ironically, botox treatment for a skin condition, he was actually fine. Treatment was quick and painless and the office staff were efficient. So, why 2 stars? Because 12 months after my last visit, I just got the most ridiculous bill I've ever seen from a doctor. It claims I owe $1000, then is crossed out saying I owe $15. I paid cash for every visit I paid to this doctor, and at no point was I informed that I had a balance. With the bill I was sent, it is clear that their bookkeeping is a complete mess, and it feels completely random. When I called to complain, I was told there was no email I could send a complaint to, and that the only person that could answer billing questions is on vacation, and that I wouldn't get a response to any messages I might leave. She was extremely rude, and after taking my number she told me that I would have to call back regardless then hung up the phone. Clearly the support staff could use some professionalism, but Dr. Stolar himself is not a total loss. read more

Overall, service was below average. I was having a minor procedure and the Dr. Stolar refused to do the whole thing in one day because he said that was usually the job of 2 visits. Given the fact that he spent with me LESS than 15 minutes (and the whole procedure wouldn't take much longer), I found it quite unprofessional. I decided never to come back. But what really made me write this review was the billing process. I sent a check to the office as soon as I received the bill home. A few months later they reached out to me saying that they had lost my check and asking me for a second one. I accepted to write a second check as soon as the expiration date of the first check is up -they obviously agreed, as I was doing them a favor by writing a second check. Surprisingly, they filed my case as debt (really??). Last week I received a call from the staff, who with very rude manners told me that my case was being sent to debt collection. I explained to her the full situation, but she reacted poorly and aggressively. She screamed at me on to the point that office manager called back a few minutes later to apologize for her behavior. It was a very unpleasant experience from beginning to end. I was very candid with the office manager and explained to her that I was going to write my first Yelp review ever --I never take the time to do this, but my experience with them has been so negative that it would be unfair not to share it with other consumers. read more

Dr. Stolar is my favorite of the numerous dermatologists I've gone to. In my experience, dermatologists aren't exactly overflowing in bedside manner. At their worst, they've spent my limited time telling me about partying with socialites and have put me off with office photos of their exotic travels, paid for by patients like me. Dr. Stolar has been the most human of the group. I've always had confidence in Dr. Stolar's judgment, although I should note that my medical issues haven't been complicated. On my most recent visit, the wait to see Dr. Stolar was so brief that I needed to complete the preliminary paperwork in the examining room. Dr. Stolar's office also promotes a balanced approach to cosmetic issues, in my opinion, as evidenced by the framed sign that sits in his waiting room amid the cosmetic dermatology brochures: "There is no cosmetic for beauty like happiness!!! read more

I called an made an appointment and then had to cancel it. I started calling 10 days ahead to cancel it. After three days of trying, I still have not been able to do so. Calling the number I get a voicemail system that tells me that their mailbox is full and goodbye. This morning I actually got a human who immediately put me on hold. 15 minutes later I had to hang up because I have work to do. Calling back again I get the mailbox full message. I found another number for them on this Yelp page. Calling it I received their answering service who is not able to take cancellation requests. I even wrote out my cancellation and faxed it to them... you guessed it, the fax line gives a voice message saying that this line is currently not working!!!!! The doctors may be the best in the business, but I will never know because I would never make another appointment with them. read more

Avoid at all costs. I am giving one star mostly because of issues with his office staff. The nurses and doctor were not remarkable, but they were fine. Like other reviewers on here, however, I have several issues with his staff and their billing. Billing has been a nightmare. I have received several contradictory bills from their office. Each time that j have attempted to resolve these issues, the staff were unhelpful, confused, and unprofessional. I am certainly aware that health care is expensive, but the bills they have sent outrageous bill for a very minor procedure. I cant believe the negative reviews here and neither should you. Had my first appt with Stolar today. the front desk staff was friendly and accommodating. I waited maybe 5 minutes before being called back by a very friendly nurse. she told me the doctor was on schedule today and he would be in shortly. Again, maybe 5 minutes and he waked in. He was very polite, interested and asked really good questions about my symptoms. After a quick examination, we sat in chairs and he talked about options, thoughts and the process. He could not have been nicer and more interested. He prescribed an ointment and told me to call him in a few days to let him know the progress and how we would proceed from there. It was one of the best interactions I have had with a doctor, No rush, no pressure, he really seemed to care and I like the fact that he said call him rather than take to time to go in for a follow up.
