Effingham Animal Hospital is not our regular vet. Our furbaby was being boarded at Guyton Pet Lodge and had a non-emergency medical issue and our regular vet was closed due to the holidays. Russ with Guyton Pet Lodge was able to get our baby seen by Dr. Bailey. I am very grateful for the work in and the care that they provided. The tech could not draw blood from my cat but made appointments to do so without securing any assistance. Finally, she wanted us to make a third appointment so she could sedate my cat with an injection into the jugular vein in the neck. I am pretty sure if she can't draw blood from my cat's arm then she can't get a needle into my cat's jugular vein! read more

My baby passed away in the care of this hospital. She had stoke on Tuesday 20, so I rushed her to this hospital. The vet gave her oxygen and sedation to make her calm down. She was very sleepy. He also ran bloodwork tested on her which her blood sugar was 500. The vet gave her insulin to low blood sugar down.The vet told me me that he would keep her overnight for observation (when no one there to observe her) I trusted him with my baby, so I agreed instead of transferred her to emergency hospital where was full equipped ( and the vet didn't suggest me to do so either) I called them on Wednesday 21 at 0700 when the hospital opened to see how was my baby doing. The receptionist told me that she was still alive, so I felt relieve. The vet wasn't there then until 0800. He called me and said my baby passed away. He said when he came in he saw she dedicated everywhere with dark stools which probably happened the night before.I wonder why the technicians didn't see that when they arrived at the hospital but waited until the vet came. No one noticed anything or they just didn't care! When I went to that place to get my baby's body, the receptionist told me that I owed them $285.. no empathy..not saying sorry..nothing.. The moral of this story..When you are a vet, you know what your knowledge is. You know if you are unable to handle the cases, you should pass or referred patient to other facilities instead of keeping the patient, so you can earn more money. If this vet suggested me to send my baby to emergency vet where the vet there had more skills and the place had fully equipped to save lives, in handling the intensive treatment, my baby was probably still be here today. I don't talk with grieve, but reasonable. I also blame myself to believe in this vet! I live and I learn!! read more

We love, love, love the staff and the care our 5 dogs receive here. I can not say enough good things about Dr, Bailey, Dr. Livingston, and all the staff. They are fantastic. They treat our animals as if they are their own, which is probably the nicest complement I can give an animal care facility. And they always give excellent care, from check-ups, to boarding, to surgeries. We have even received calls at home, just to check on our pets. Not just as a courtesy, but because they really care. We have moved away and I still drive an hour for appointments when there are probably 20 Vets closer to us. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

Terrible place! I placed my dogs in this animal hospital while I went away for military training. I was told to call in and make payments every Thursday and told them I wanted my dogs groomed. The Thursday before I left I called in and the person who answered the phone was rude and told me they do not accept payments while the dogs are in the kennel but whenever you pick them up. Another woman called before I began class telling me I had to pay long story short. This kennel was the worst and my dogs came to me matted and dirty. I honestly felt because they could not get their act together my dogs were treated poorly even though I spent a little over 1600 on kennel costs. My dogs were hungry, dirty, and lost weight. Although they tried to say one of my dogs was overweight it is not their job to adjust anything before speaking to the owner. My miniature schnauzer is taller than a miniature but smaller than a standard and he was ideal weight. Next time I will drive back to SC at just pet inn because they loved it there. read more

This place is like the twilight zone to me. After reading reviews and even other friends experiences I can't believe they are talking about the same place I've encountered so many nightmares from. I got an adorable kitten and immediately started her vet care here at Effingham Animal Hospital. First off I've only encountered dry, rude staff who are anything but friendly and helpful. I've never been greeted with a friendly hello or how can I help you. They just stare at me until I tell them what I'm there for. So I tell them I have an appointment and they ask me what it's for. Shots I say. They ask me which ones.... ummm thought that was their job to know. So whatever, I can deal. I went there a few times never seeing the actual vet which seemed a little odd. So comes time to spay. We made the difficult decision to also declaw after having issues with our cat swatting at small children unprovoked. It was a REALLY hard decision for us. My husband takes her in and I don't think he was given any info on what was about to happen. My friend had two cats declawed at this same place no problems she said. I go to pick my cat up and she has a cone and booties and they give me a bag full of morphine for her. My friend said hers didn't have stitches or a cone or booties so I was a little thrown off. I assumed they knew what they were doing. 3 days later she gets her booties off. She keeps the cone on for 10 to 14 days. No problem but as soon as she gets home she figures out how to get to her paws with the cone on! So my husband takes her back to get a bigger cone. They just hand it to him like he works there. When I see her paws I'm MORTIFIED. I cried and cried. She's still healing and I'm not 100% sure she's ever going to be normal again. I question if she has all the pads of her foot because it looks so mangled. With the bigger cone she STILL can get to the stitch and that night she pulls a stitch loose. I call after hours and I'm told to wrap it myself. I tell her i don't have anything she tells me to go to Walmart. . I tried for 5hrs to wrap this cats paws. Turns out I don't work in a vets office and have no clue what I'm doing. She just keeps kicking them off. So I call again and am told people come in Sunday but they aren't trained to wrap (neither am i) so I taped small socks on her paws. I was told to bring her in monday so they can look at her stitch and rewrap her. Monday I come home from work and see a noticeable huge swollen bump through the sock. Omg I taped too tight! My worst fear. So I get her back to the vet. Again.. not greeted. I'm stressed as all get out. They come and take her in the back (again still never seen a vet) they assure me she's fine and it's just fluids. They bring her back to me unwrapped. I tell her she will still get to her stitches and she tells me to leave her cone on..... ok so now I see they are assuming I've been taking it off. As we are talking my cat is in the carrier with the cone on pulling at her paws... so she takes her back to get wrapped. I ask why we have cones and stitches and this whole mess when my friend didn't and she looks at me like I'm crazy and assures me all cats leave mutilated just like mine (maybe she didn't say those words but she did say they are all like my cat so that must have been what she meant) so I go to pay.... and I ask what should I do when the swelling goes down and the wrap falls off. She tells me to leave it off. Wait.... didn't just 2 seconds ago she witness this cat pulling at her stitches and wrap her up? I'm so confused! That night swelling went down and sure enough wrap came off. So for the past 24hrs I've called into work and been on cat duty. She has completely removed one stitch. The one she got at the other day. This is such a mess! my husband tells me last night that he did see a guy. Vet maybe? He tells my husband that he hates cats and is allergic. ...... ummmmm probably not something you should tell a CAT owner. If it had been me, I would have left right then and there. Now that I know he hates cats it all makes sense on why mine looks mangled. If I'm allergic to peanuts I'm not going to work at the peanut factory. after we are through this I will never return and I will be sure to spread the word of my experience. I paid $350 for a nightmare. Why have I not gone somewhere else already you ask? Because I'm too embarrassed to let another place see what I've put my poor cat through by taking her to a hack shop. read more

We learned Dr. Bailey was skilled in orthopedic situations and our dog has had an issue with his back leg. We were more than pleased by the advice, the staff (Kim was terrific) and the overall feeling of their concern for the best to happen for our doggie. Btw, our doggie is an anxious one! Dr. Bailey took so much time with us and made us feel like we could all address his leg issue, which is going to take some time to heal. We had been to another vet when we moved here recently and they weren't as personable or as interested in our dog's care. We are so pleased and relieved to have found a great vet and staff. I'm live in Virginia but this place was recommended by my sister in law who lives in Rincon, GA. My 13 year old kitten had gotten sick while I was visiting. This vet clinic is absolutely phenomenal. The staff are so friendly and knowledgable especially the tech's and dr's. VERY reasonable pricing and very clean. Thoroughly examined and prompt results. This hospital saved my pet rat when he had some bad complications after a neuter. My normal vet had closed, so I called every emergency vet in the Savannah area but they refused to see me because I hadn't been a patient before. I'm so glad I found this place; they were kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and took wonderful care of my rat overnight. When I got him back the next morning he was back to his normal self. I can't recommend them enough if you have a small animal emergency after-hours! read more

Dr. Bailey and his awesome staff have been so helpful with our cocker spaniel who suffers with ear infections. We board our pup there and feel comfortable with leaving her in their care. We have also adopted two kittens from their RUFF rescue entity. All of our pets will continue under Dr. Bailey's competent and compassionate care. read more

Highly dissatisfied. We dropped our dog off to be boarded here for the weekend. They are closed on Sundays so the earliest we were able to pick her back up was Monday afternoon. Not only was she left unattended for the majority of that Sunday, but she apparently had to be bathed from rolling in feces and there was no one on site to know. She literally was covered in it for hours. They called to tell us that the earliest we could pick her up would be 2:00 pm after her bath. After picking her up, my husband noticed she still had feces in her coat and paws/nails and had to re-bathe her when they got home. In addition, they decided to test and vaccinate her without calling to give us notice. The vaccination was necessary (Bordetella), we would have appreciated a phone call to verbally consent the administration. Finally, upon getting her home, we realized that they neglected to return her Kong toy or her food scoop. We will never utilize their services again. If they are this negligent and disorganized with caring for an animals basic needs, I do not trust them with any veterinary needs. read more
