They immediately tended to my boy, presented all the options while giving the best care, and were so kind and patient with me when I was crying. From the receptionist, to the tech to the vet, you can tell everyone here truly loves animals. Their kindness and sympathy wasn't forced. They also let me sit in a comfort room with my boy for however long I wanted to say goodbye. They gave us a blanket and had snacks set out that I could feed him. Don't Euthanize just to save Money! Get a Second Opinion from your own local vet! We were encouraged to euthanize our wounded cat rather than spend the thousands and thousands of dollars that "gold standard care" at SVEC could possibly cost us. We were told it would cost $2,200 to sedate our cat, clean his wound, and keep him a few days. We were prepared to do this to save his life. But then Dr. Barrett warned us that even after that we would have to bring him in daily to their office (even though we lived an hour away) for wound care, and afterwards he may need multiple surgeries, so the cost would just keep rising?!? I asked if we could do the wound care ourselves, but was told 'no.' My husband and I were crying. This did not feel right. We had a local vet in Guyton who we loved and trusted. We would ask for her opinion before we could make any decision like this. So SVEC had us "sign papers saying they had recommended euthanasia and we had declined," and we got out of there. We drove straight to our vet who had just opened and they immediately took us into a room expressing sympathy and compassion. Then they looked at our cat's wound. They said it was bad, but they had seen worse. They sedated him, cleaned his wound, and then sent him home with us for under $300! (That is $300 versus the $2,200 base payment SVEC would have charged us!) Then they gave us all of the supplies to clean his wound and apply some honey ointment to encourage healing at home... (which, by the way, only took a few meager minutes per day at home.) We were just rejoicing as we took our fur baby home! Now, just weeks later he is healthy and happy and has fully healed!! We thank God that we did not stay at SVEC, but went to our own local vet. It was our own vet's "less than gold standard care" that saved his life and brought him home to us!!! I tried to call Dr. Barrett or the office manager several times leaving messages, but sadly neither one of them ever returned my calls. I was not calling in anger, but sincerely wanted to share with them how our cat's life had been spared for less than $300. Our cat wasn't dying! He just needed care that they thought would be too expensive for us. I wanted to encourage them to give patients options when their "gold standard care" is unaffordable... Please allow pet owners to do things that will limit their high costs... allow them to do wound care at home if it is the only way to afford it and save the pet's life. ...Encourage them to check on the cost for the same care at their local vet. SVEC... Please do not encourage owners who love their pets to euthanize their pet... when the pet is not dying, but simply because the cost for your "gold standard care" is too high. There are other options! Please share these with owners in the future. PS. SVEC... I see that sometimes you respond to negative reviews stating that you cannot find a record of the pet in question, so to avoid any confusion, we took "Smokey" in to you on the early morning of March 18, 2026. ...our complaint is recommending euthanasia without offering options to help us save his life. And prior to writing this review I called on at least 4 separate occasions, politely leaving my name and number, and requesting that the doctor or even office manager return my call. The young lady who answered the phone on my last call told me that "all" of my messages had been given to the doctor and office manager. I told her that I desired to speak with them before writing a review. I felt it only fair. So I left that last message and waited... that was two weeks ago. I just looked at my phone ... I called you March 19, 29, and 31 as well as April 4 and 7. I left messages on 4 of those occasions. I see sometimes you reply to negative reviews stating that you would like to speak with us about the matter... but, in this case, that would seem quite insincere. The vets here took great care of my dog Bruce for two days after he ate all his pills at once! They were the fastest ER vet I've ever been to, and way faster than the human ER, even at 2 am! The techs were super caring and attentive and so kind even as I was sobbing and snotty. They even let me come and hang out with him for over an hour while he was there. It was so great that the doctor was able to come to our room herself and answered all our questions. It not only set me at ease knowing who was caring for him and getting all the information I needed, it also showed me that they kept enough staff on hand to really care for and pay attention to each pet. And the bill ended up being nearly a thousand dollars under the initial estimate which was a bonus, though their care for my boy was worth far more than I paid. I did notice they had the typical lack of knowledge of dog body language most vets and techs have, however the only vets I've met that don't are behavior specialists or training geeks so this isn't specific to them at all. I absolutely recommend this vet, while I think we often judge vets too much by the medical outcome whether it's their fault or not, I'm so grateful we were able to walk out after two days with no permanent damage or complications. We're very grateful for the high level of care Dr Horton and the vet tech (who was excellent, but I didn't get her name!) provided. We brought our Julian in at 2:30 am after he vomited blood and had a burst abscess from a spider or snake bite. They were able to rule out sepsis, clean the wound, and provide pain relief, and for us, peace of mind. Julian is now doing great and will be 100% within 2 weeks. Thank you! read more

My 4 month old made kitten, Salem, was throwing up and we decided to take him here. As soon as we got there, they took amazing care of us and him. Unfortunately he had an obstruction in his small intestine and we were told he wouldn't be able to pass it. Being the young college student I am, I couldn't afford the bill to have the life-saving surgery he needed. Just when I thought it would be the last time I saw my fur baby, the nurse came in and told us that one of the doctors had made a call to a nonprofit and that they were willing to cover the entire cost of what he needed to save his life. If I could give this place, no stars I would. My seven month old Italian Daniff puppy got hit by a car yesterday. They took my boy to the back and brought me paperwork and told me that it would be off the top $550-$700 to even look at him and x-rays. I asked if they would work with us on a payment plan she said she would check and then she came back and stated that the doctor evaluated my boy and they would suggest euthanizing him because he had fluid all around his lungs and heart and chest. I immediately spoke with my husband and we decided to go see another Vet. The vet tech refused to bring me my dog until 'I filled out the form' .. I signed the paperwork. Took him to another vet, And I'm happy to say that there was no internal bleeding no fluids around any of the areas that they said. he was in shock and he needed a little bit of TLC and they kept him overnight and I got him back today just as happy and his sweet as he was when he left... if I would have listened to them, I wouldn't have my dog anymore .If you care at all about your pet, or human interaction with compassionate and ethical vet workers, NEVER go to this place. read more

His temp went up thru the night and so I had to make the choice to rush him to the ER clinic! They were all fantastic and very accommodating with all my needs for him. My 10 yr old dog abruptly lost use of her hind right leg. There were no other patients in the waiting area when we arrived. We were quickly greeted and shown to an exam room. After 40 mins waiting, I left the exam room to find no one at the front desk and the front door locked. Simultaneously another dog owner approached the building and locked front door. They rang the doorbell a few times and then a team member appeared from a back door. It seems the entire staff - including the vet - decided it was time for them to all eat dinner together. After I voiced my disappointment the vet performed a 5 min exam, prescribed gabapentin and told us to follow up with our normal vet. No compassion, no acknowledgment of the wait time. Well it turns out my dog required surgery. What's the point of an emergency vet clinic if not to provide emergency care? I would give zero stars if possible. read more

These reviews blew my mind and I'm glad I didn't read them before we brought our cat in. Our cat went into diabetic ketoacidosis because we had no idea he had diabetes (cats are good at hiding it and he hadn't been acting strange until it hit him) and he stayed here for 4 nights and 5 days. From the vets to the techs, he was given incredible care and went from completely not moving to back to his normal sweet self with their round the clock care. If they hadn't been there, he would not have made it. Yes, it's expensive. When you go to the ER, it doesn't cost the same as when you go to your family doctor. We learned our lesson and signed our pets up for pet insurance after this, but I don't feel like we got ripped off in any way. It's a business and trauma care is extremely expensive for them, too. 24 hour around the clock care is just expensive. It is what it is. They were very transparent about the cost. (And it's like this everywhere too - at the emergency vet in Atlanta it's just as, if not more, expensive) We were given the opportunity to go to the back to see him while he was receiving a treatment and I was very impressed by their facilities in the back. I felt like the vets cared so much and really did an amazing job. They taught us how to do his new insulin injections and how to monitor him. They spent lots of time with us and I could just really tell they cared about him. I understand folks are going in upset and traumatized by what has happened to their pet. But these people working here are good people - I think they just have to put up with a never ending, exhausting amount of customers saying they are being ripped off which is simply not true and probably makes them less bubbly than some people would like them to be. But I'm not paying for someone to be bubbly, I'm paying for someone to heal and nurture my pet. It's literally the animal ER. We are so very grateful to these people. read more

Our sweet Rosi died on the way to the vet. They were kind and took the best care they could given her injuries. I would recommend them to anyone who needs vet care. She died in my arms. She was hurt so bad and died on the way to the hospital, there was nothing they could do. They wrapped her in a blanket and put her in a cardboard casket. We took her home and buried her. It still hurts so badly, we've had her for over 13 years and we treasure those years. We think of her daily and she will live in our hearts forever. read more

My dog, Snoopy, a golden retriever - Black lab mis is 10 1/2 years old. He got into a garbage bag, and ate something something he should have not. He didnt eat any food for a day but drank a lot of water . we called our vet who X-rayed the dog and saw obstructions in the small intestine. He advided to watch the doge very closely. After about 4 hours, Snoopy stopped drinking water. We then rushed him to the emergency Clinic (1AM). Surgery had been completed by morning. Snoopy emerged in the morning and we picked him up the next day. It appeared that the obstruction were 2 circular plastic discs. The price was well worth is considering the fact that Snoopy after 10 1/2 years is a family member. The Vets (and staff) who took care of him were highly professional, competent and courteous. I must say that this emergency hospital treated my dog better than some of the human hospitals. read more

We were in downtown for a few weeks. Our dog has a chronic GI issue that started to act up. None of the downtown primary care vets could get us in same day. The issue got worse into the evening, and we made the call to go to emergency. They were able to get us in right away, went through their intake process immediately, and within half an hour the vet came in to talk to us and see our dog. The vet was really helpful. She suggested a few additional things to try for diagnosing and managing our dog's GI issue that her primary vet hadn't brought up in the past. We had a prescription promptly and paid a very reasonable price for a 24/7 emergency vet. I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

I'm SO GRATEFUL that we were referred here by our primary veterinarian. My pup, Adam, was in critical condition and needed to have emergency surgery due to a foreign object in his small intestine. Dr. Goldberg was very thorough in explaining the indicated procedure and put us at ease, implying that this was fairly routine. Russ was very gentle with Adam and sat us down to go over the estimated cost in a best case/worst case scenario. We dropped Adam off and were told to call anytime to check on him. The management of Adam's condition was very diligent - they tee'd him up with fluids, antibiotics and pain meds to prepare him for anesthesia and surgery. Dr Goldberg called us after surgery to explain exactly what he did during the procedure, which went as well as can be expected. We dropped Adam off the next evening with Dr. Baker to have him treated and monitored overnight. It was easy to leave Adam in her care, as she was very personable and professional. Dr. Baker walked us through his plan of care, and the staff were always pleasant and informative when we called to check on Adam. read more

Once we arrived, the staff were all patient, kind, and professional. I was told that it was a long wait, which I appreciated being told. Each time the tech came in, she told me what she was doing and that she'd back when she had the information she needed. I recommend this service. Pet Owners BEWARE..... of Savannah Veterinary Emergency Clinic and owner Dr. Julie Harelson - in my Opinion, They RIPPED OFF our son and manipulated our sons emotions and concern for his dog to charge us $4,750.00 UP FRONT before they would take him in to observe him. WHAT Happened - Our son brought his dog in concerned that there might be a health issue. The Vet on Duty - Jamie Baker took a look at Conan in the back and came out back out into the reception area with tears in her eyes saying that Conan will most likely require surgery. She took advantage of his concerned for his dog to get him to agree to a HUGE Charge. She said that they needed to keep him to observe and take x-rays. *** They did not review any costs and told our son that they had to charge our card apx. 4750.00 just to take him in. Her reaction was completely un-professional and manipulative by scaring our son into agreeing to the large charge. Obviously this is a SCAM Veterinary Clinic that takes advantage of Pet owners who care so much for their pets. Once we heard what happened we called them and ended up picked up Conan to take him to another Vet Clinic right down the road. Where they were completely professional and Total Cost was only 294.00 NOT the 4650.00 that the SCAM Vet ps. They used a barium treatment so when you viewed the x-rays, you could see that there was no obstruction. The SCAM Clinic did not. Conclusion - Savannah Veterinary Emergency Clinic and owner Dr. Julie Harelson are obviously a SCAM Veterinary clinic. Even when given the opportunity to correct their mistake. They choose not to.
