We have used this service for years due to the simple fact that we need a service to help us understand our taxes. we do not have anything complex we both work our jobs and file our W2s. 4 years after filing we received a letter stating that our information was filed incorrectly. The corporate office stated that it was human error and there was nothing that could be done. So why pay for a service to help you with your taxes if they don't file them correctly. The best they could offer was half off next years filing. A statement showing just how little they value their customers. read more

I've used EG Tax for almost 20 years. I moved to Florida 13 years ago and would email my tax info to the corporate office. Usually they had one of 3 folks do my taxes. All 3 are gone now, retired. But I usually had very good service. This year I'm running late, and needed the extension, no problem. They said they'd get to my return as they caught up, again, no problem. But this past week, I've called and emailed numerous times just to get a status of my return and to ask who is doing my return. I've left many messages to just return my call and let me know. I have yet to get a return call or email. And yesterday was a tipping point for me. The receptionist stated she couldn't or wouldn't get a status for me and she couldn't access the system to find out. She stated no one who could access the system would talk to me to just give a status. And I will have to wait till next Wednesday for her manager to get back from time off to answer any questions. Basically I was told tough luck, nobody can or will help you. VERY RUDE. If and when my taxes get completed, will determine if this rating stays at 3 or goes down to lowest rating possible. EG Tax was wonderful for years and big on they weren't H&R Block. Looks like that attitude has changed and they've become what they tried to avoid. Very unprofessional. And all it would have taken is a simple 2 minute phone call to avoid this type of review. read more

Was the worst. Covid seems to have caused a brain drain. People in positions they're terrible at. Friday they prepared the Fed 1040 Correctly but screwed up the NYS return to the tune of $2k. I had rushed to get a check in the mail for NYS. Then reviewed the NYS return that night and realized their mistake. I didn't own anything. I went back Saturday to have it amended. I stated the Fed 1040 was correct but the NYS 201 was in error. The supervising preparer started amending the 1040 and was gruff when I stated the 1040 was correct. He went about amending the 1040 incorrectly and then amended the problem with the NYS 201 as we told him. Dismissing attitude from a moron. On Monday I paid $30 to stop payment on the NYS check and went to the main office. Dismissing attitude from the boss. Imagine having employee issues like many. Told don't worry about the 1040. The Feds will catch the error. Really. I guess NYS would realize you didn't own $2k and return it too. Or the Feds will refund the incorrect amount and send you a bill for the error plus interest some year in the future. Would you pay someone $180 to do this. These people don't even let you review the return before they e-file it. They don't tell you they filed it or ask you if you'd like to review it first. If you don't have any idea about taxes these people are NOT the people you want doing your taxes. Wonder if these people know how to amend an amended return. They probably do. And no one in the office wears a mask. Wishing these people a serious case of Covid. read more

EG Tax is one of the most affordable, easiest tax prep companies to work with in the WNY area. I've been using EG Tax for years and have never had an issue. I usually work with M R at the NF Blvd office in Amherst and she is always courteous, kind and professional. She spends the time needed to get everything right and is willing to answer all of my questions. If she doesn't know the answer right away, she knows where to look and gets the answer right. She is also very principled and follows the tax law to make sure you won't end up in trouble. I've gone to EG Tax for 25 years, mostly to the Niagara Falls branch and received good service. I would go to Bill, Esters Husband. Six years ago I moved to SW Florida and was delighted to find there was an EG Tax in Naples, where I know that Bill and Ester retired to. This review is specifically about the NAPLES, FLORIDA BRANCH. Bill is not doing taxes any longer. I'm not sure if Ester is actively doing tax either, but she did step in last season for us. The tax season was extended last year to July because of Covid. I had made our appointment for sometime in June and Paul was not there. I assume he gets laid off each year after the bulk of the appointments are completed but there was no one available to do my taxes. Calling up to the Falls office was a little frustrating and it took a few calls before they got hold of Ester. So I ended up getting my taxes done by the deadline. This year Paul did our taxes on April 6th. So here it is June 11th and no Federal refund yet. We tried to call EG Naples and you can't even leave a message. Today we will try The Falls again. I'm 65 this year and hate to switch tax services at this point in my life but feel like the service has just dropped off to the point where I have to. My 2 star rating is commensurate with the service I've gotten since moving to Florida. Had I done a review while living in Buffalo and using the Niagara Falls branch I would have given a 4 star rating. read more

Horrible, do not go here. My mistake. They screwed up and it cost me almost 700 bucks. And charged me 128 for the screw up. When I went to the state they said I would have to sue EG to get any money. And gave me the run around for a month before finally admitting they made a mistake. I'd give zero if possible. Be warned not worth the trouble. read more

My elderly parents went to the Colvin Blvd location today and no employees were wearing masks. They felt too intimidated to complain, despite having several underlying medical conditions. I called and the manager told me they are not breaking any laws because they are maintaining six feet distance. First, this is not true. The preparer was a typical desk length away from my parents, which is not six feet. Second, if you have to wear a mask while waiting for your food at a restaurant, why wouldn't they be expected to wear masks seeing hundreds of people each day? The arrogance is astounding. If I could give eg tax zero stars, I would. I went to the Akron location and the tax preparer rushed through my appt, didn't verify anything and was very unprofessional. By the time I was done, I even questioned that the return was correct. I went home and noticed that some of the information she just assumed, was wrong. I contacted the corporate ofc and within a couple of hours, received a call from the assistant district manager who was professional and said they would go over my return and she would call me the next day. Two days passed with no call. I emailed them today and the district manager emailed me back to say my return was correct, she was sorry about my experience and she would call after 5. I emailed her back letting her know that as a long time customer, I felt that I should get back some of my tax preparation fees. She emailed me backing telling me she was sorry but they charge their fee based on the forms and she would give me 25 percent off if I came in next year. I emailed and told her that I will never be going to any of their locations, I am dissatisfied with the outcome and I will be spreading the word!! read more

I been a customer of theirs for more than ten years, and things have been degrading ever since. I remember when they were small and willing to do whatever for you, being patient.. giving friendly advice.. And was very affordable. I used to pay $25. Now all I get are hotshots with cold glares, who look at me as just another guy, hurrying to finish my taxes, and asking for $170 fee when all they do is use a program that does all their calculations for them and copying values from last year's taxes.. Its a questionnaire process! So how could it be so expensive? 2017 is the last and final year with them as I found another office that is doing what this office was doing over ten years ago. read more

Unacceptable. The only employee that I could work with , who supposedly was the only employee knowledgeable regarding trusts, proved otherwise. What information she gave me in June 2020 didn't hold water when actually filing. Also, I had an appointment in December with same employee to get a figure of what I owed for estimated taxes. I was spot on with the information I brought her, she GROSSLY underestimated my payment, resulting in a penalty. This is what I pay for? This is the help/tax advice of professionals? No thank you. Had my taxes filed with them in 2013! They failed to send in the finalized, signed copies and then couldn't find them. When they did send them in, guess who had to pay late fees and penalties! If I could give them zero stars, I would. This is the most incompetent bunch of people I have ever met! My husband and I had a unique circumstance with our child so, we went to go get our taxes done and had a coupon for EG tax. I got there and Dave (at the Location in Depew on French rd) did our taxes for us and assured us that despite my daughter not having a SS number we would receive the child tax credit for her. We sent in all the tax forms, and waited. About a month later we heard back from both the federal and state government saying our tax forms were incomplete. So we went back to Dave and he resubmitted the forms to them. The federal government accepted it and we received that refund, however, the state did not. I called the state and they said that there were 2 pages missing from the tax forms and that they were never sent. I wrote down the titles of the forms and then called corporate (because at this point it is now September and the local office is closed). They told me to come in. I came in, didn't get to see anyone. They copied all my tax forms and said someone would call me the next morning. I never got a call. So I called them 2 days later. I spoke to the desk clerk and RETOLD THEM EXACTLY WHAT WAS MISSING. He said it wouldn't be an issue and he would resend them himself. Never got any call from corporate for a follow up, never received the $600 that was owed to us from the state, and they never offered to refund us (yeah, we paid for this awful service). So I have basically given up. I would NEVER use them again and I tell everyone that even thinks of using them not to do it. They have horrible customer service and they have no idea what they are doing. It's now a new tax season and my taxes from last year are still incomplete and now I'm at a complete loss and out about 150 bucks from using their "service." Pathetic and incompetent. read more

I'm only 25 and they did my taxes for 2010 & 2011. I have had IRS problems because of how they reported things. I owe taxes from those years now. EG tax is only paying interest on it. I have never had more of a headache with anything than dealing with EG tax. Do not get your taxes done with them if you don't want mistakes. They did my 2012 for free because of all the mistakes before. I shouldn't have even let them. Now in getting IRS letters for that year. Worst experience ever! read more

I wish I had started going to EG Tax sooner. I probably missed out on a lot of money over the years. I was seeing another accountant who was a family friend (I'd write a one-star review for the place but I guess I feel bad because he knows my family personally). He was skipping tons of commonsense, typical deductions that I should've been getting. I guess it was a big red flag that I do work as an independent contractor and I work in several states and he asked me zero questions about my expenses and such. He just collected my tax forms and that was it. Anyway, I went to EG Tax and they were able to file amendments to my previous year's filed taxes and I got $800 refunded. Simply by switching accountants I got $800, which is crazy to me. The accountant I saw at EG Tax was Chris and he just asked me some questions and then walked me through what instead I owed various agencies and what I'd be getting back. The one thing I will say is, at EG Tax they can be pretty busy so you have to set an appointment, or if you walk in, you may have to wait. But I take that as a good sign -- my previous accountant's office was always empty and now I know why! If you think you're paying too much on your taxes or your accountant isn't really looking that closely at your situation, I'd definitely recommend EG Tax. read more

I am extremely disappointed with EG tax corporate office. We have used them for years. The past two years I have gotten letters from the IRS stating I still owed more after review. I just received a letter from IRS stating we owe $3000 this is not a small amount. I reached out to our tax consultant and found out he no longer works for EG tax. I started to have him review the mistake and in the meantime contacted EG Tax. Corp office General Manager Maria responded unprofessionally telling me the tax consultant we used was a poor businessman and a liar. I found this to be very unprofessional as he was under EG tax company. I pay someone to do my taxes because I do not know how. Their response in the end was you have to pay what you owe, have a good day. As a customer I was extremely confused on what to do or who to have help me. I will be taking care of the issue and have no problem paying the amount I owe. Very unprofessional, will never use them again or the consultant who did our taxes and works for someone else now. read more

I went to them to have the last 3 years tax returns amended. I found out about a deduction which I didn't know that I could take. I took the returns to them on April 3rd. The person that I had an appointment with said that it would not be a problem. I didn't hear anything for over a week, so I called and left a message to call me back. He didn't have the courtesy to call back and let me know when they would be ready. I called 2 more times and never received a return call. On April 15th I called again and was told that the 2015 was ready, but the other returns were not. No one called me. I had to call them. I'll never use them again. read more

Message left 3-24 by TF of conference call 3-25 with IRS. T.F. called me on date never reviewed anything and then could not find my info then says IRS closed nothing I can do! Told to come to corp office next day to pick up form to mail IRS. Had to wait brought my tax copies she didnt take. Asked to see her. Nope! Told secretary I was very displeased another blonde behind the desk, unidentified starts to interject, has no business interferring. Extremely rude, unprofessional, and incompetent. They made a mistake on reporting something on my taxes and now two years later the IRS is coming after me saying I owe them money including interest.
