It was a little hard to find but tracked it down. There were a few people waiting ahead of me in line, but the wait wasn't too long. I saw the guy take out some of the freshly baked bread and saw how juicy the chicken looked, so I was excited. I got one of the roujiamo sandwiches, which was $6. Great deal and feels so good to get a substantial food item for $6 in NY these days. Really feels next to impossible in 2026. Upon receiving the sandwich, I went across the street and tried to eat it ASAP on the street as other people suggested. The sandwich felt really good in my hands as the bread had just come out. Chicken looked really good and I asked for it to be spicy. I took my first bite and it was pretty amazing. First thing I noticed was how flaky the bread was. Such a pleasant and satisfying texture. The chicken had a lot of flavor and I think there is some cabbage in there. I devoured the rest of the sandwich in about a minute and I was very happy. The sandwich is fairly substantial; might not be enough for a full meal for some people and I treated it more as an appetizer before I went elsewhere for a bowl of noodles. I think this is easily a 5 star establishment. Great value and one of the best ways to spend $6 in NYC.

We got a couple of each chicken gizzard, lamb kebab, chicken heart, beef kebab, and pork belly ($2 each), listed in the order of my personal favorites. I loved the crunch of the chicken gizzard the most and honestly could have eaten at least five of them myself. The lamb kebab wasn't too gamey, and the cumin seasoning was perfection. The other three kebabs were flavorful, but weren't quite as memorable. Overall, the skewers had an intensely charred, smoky flavor that's hard to replicate without a charcoal grill. Their literal name "九头鸟" is a reference to the 9 headed phoenix, a mythical bird (#2) that was popularized in Chinese mythology to symbolize adversity in the mist of chaos. The latter is could also be a way to describe the food, which has been inconsistent in terms of availability and taste, while also being pricey. I typically have found this cart right outside of Tangram Mall on the Prince St side, but I know they also end up near the corner at Queens Crossing at times. Since the cart is plastered with images of restaurant quality foods, it's easy to get the impression that they have a bunch of items on their menu. Typically, it's whatever is on the handwritten sign, which in my case was spicy duck head and/or neck ($10), hot dry noodle with beef ($10), stuff fried lotus root ($10), or even stinky tofu ($8). The stinky tofu was the initial draw for me, but the fact it wasn't at all stinky was an issue. The tofu itself was fine, but very unmemorable. Just the idea of finding a dedicated cart for something so niche was exciting but unfortunately a tad of a letdown. The beef dry noodle is not worth it in my eyes, especially since there was so little beef and way more noodle. They also have late night skewers and practically all of them are in the $2-3.50 range at this point. if they're charging for $3.50 for potato slices (土豆片), then I'm not likely to order much from here. Previously they offered delivery on Chinese-only platforms like Fantuan and still take payment on WeChat. (#3) I have a sneaky feeling they're directly related to the standalone restaurant along 45th Ave & Parsons but I haven't confirmed this just yet. There's a bench inside next to the counter where you order, and a couple of picnic tables out front for dining. They sell mostly smoothies and acai but also Asian street food like Korean toast, Taiyaki, Kimbob, and Breakfast Sandwiches. I ordered an acai bowl ($10.95) with fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas, cranberries, blueberries), granola (which contained dried fruits) and almonds. Bowl came in only one size and was big and very filling. The acai itself was just okay, I've had better at other places. The toppings that they added are what I liked best about this bowl. The fruits were fresh, the granola with the bits of dried fruits was tasty and added a nice crunchy element with each bite. I also got a Taiyaki ($3). Price wise, it was slightly cheaper than I've seen in other places. These can be ordered with different kinds of fillings (red bean, custard cream or Nutella) and flavors (original or green tea). I got mine with Nutella in Original flavor. It was delicious although I wished it was more well done. I usually like it more toasted and to have more crunch on the outside. Overall, not a bad first visit. And I must note, the lady at the counter was just the nicest. She made me try more items on the menu. I hope the locals (and non-locals) support this business.

A lot of folks will see Kwafood Fried Skewer (#2), but the key is to walk past the skewer display and discover a separate business on the inside. What one will find is Sichuan style street food, which features a customizable dry hot pot (麻辣香鍋) with fried skewers and almost next-to-zero service. It is open late and has a decent amount of seating, especially between 2-3AM. The format is simple: Grab a bowl and begin choosing from the open fridge for all the meats, fishballs, seafood, and vegetables. Drinks are usually on the top shelf. Once assembled with a proper spice level, the meal is whipped together by the staff, and served on a tray. It doesn't come cheap at $20 a pound, but the other spots are either closed or too far away to consider any alternative. While the food isn't mind blowing, this is worthy in a pinch. Dry hot pot is usually fun, but folks can also enjoy their selection with soup if they please. The spice levels are from 1-5 and anyone who can tolerate the latter half are serious spice lords. I would say if you are in the mood for baos this is a solid bad place to get your fix but won't be the best (instead try Pan Bao located in the New World Mall food court). The real highlight was the Taiwanese sausage though which was perfect in both texture and taste with a sweet and savory bite.

Instead, walk 10-15 minutes south on Kissena Blvd and you will find a group of street vendors gathering nightly on the sidewalk right in front of Gold City Supermarket. On a beautiful night, you'll find many people camping out on the ledge of the supermarket parking lot, or even putting out picnic blankets, while enjoying various street foods they can find at this great little "food fest". The street vendors are from different regions of China and serves all sorts of yummy goodies. You can find lots of fried items, soup noodles, grilled skewers, marinated meats and veggies, desserts, etc. One of my favorite stalls is the vendor selling hand torn shredded chicken ($25 each), which they dress up in seasoning and spices. They use an older chicken that has a firmer texture that won't fall apart when tearing the meat. The flavor is wonderful and absolutely addictive. They even give you a frequent buyer card that gets you a free chicken when you reached six purchases. The same stall also sells marinated items that are quite good. You are allowed to mix and match as long as they have the same price point. Another stall I would recommend is the stinky tofu stall. There are often more than one, but I like the one with the longest table space only dedicated to this single product, often in the middle of the block. If you have never tried this delicacy, close your nose and give it a go. You may be pleasantly surprised. Other stands that are popular include the BBQ grilled meats over charcoal, where you can get $2-3 skewers of lamb, beef, chicken wings, and whole lot more. Also, if you see the man grilling whole squids, his stuff is quite tasty too. Bottom line, it's a fun evening hanging out with your friends and snacking on various yummy bites. Be brave and try something new. Though there are few English signs, just order what looks good. Find a day with nice weather and check it out soon.
