I love a good taco stand. This is one of the best. Unfortunately, the days of $1-1.50 tacos from my youth has disappeared. Even though this vendor sells tacos pequeño (small tacos, 2-3 bites), they are $3-4 each, which is not cheap. For that reason, I can't give them 5 stars. It's quite pricey considering that most full size tacos are selling for about $4.50-5.50 nowadays on the streets, but double in size. With that said, I appreciate the smaller size for me to enjoy more variety every time I stop by. My favorites change from visit to visit, but generally I always get Suadero (roast meat), Campechano (roast meat & sausage), Buche (pork stomach), Cabeza (beef head), and Lengua (beef tongue). I also like the extra weird parts like Cesos (beef brain) and Ojos (beef eye). However, the texture is very mushy and definitely not for everyone. As accompaniments, for every two tacos you order, they also give you a long stem onion that is quite tender and delicious. On the down side, instead of the traditional lime and radish that most places give, Tacos El Borrego offers lemon and cucumbers. I'm not sure why, except maybe they are cheaper options than the normal garnishes. Also, don't forget the flavorful green and red sauces on the table if you are eating there. Otherwise, ask for some to go. I miss the days when our group of friends would get a few tacos late at night after a party or night out drinking. The prices are no longer the same, but the food is still perfect for sobering up while having some laughs on the streets during the warm months. I think back to those days fondly whenever I'm at a taco stand nowadays, and Tacos El Botrego is one of my favorites in NYC. read more

This place actually got on NYT's Top 100 restaurants to try in 2023 and I heard recently that it was a great option for late night bite, since it was so cheap. I paid $3 a taco and heard their al pastor was really good. AL PASTOR This was def my favorite taco. While I won't say they're the best tacos in NYC, I think it's such a vibe and their al pastor is pretty up there. There is a perfect brunnoise cut on the pineapples that are super fresh and juicy - where did they get these pineapples? the meat was fragrantly savory and surprisingly tender and juicy. The tortilla was solid. I was surprised. CAPECHANO SUADERO I got these two tacos as well and they were solid, meaty, savory, but not super tender meat. I think I would opt for more familiar options next time (and I will be returning). The roasted onion bulb was a great touch. The green and red sauce were delicious! Definitely coming back here. Theres al pastor and pollo but the majority of options are different cuts of beef or parts of cow. they use corn tortillas which are my preference and at $3 you definitely get what you pay for. ill definitely be back whenever I get a taco craving just be aware they open 9pm to 6am. read more

There are taco carts all throughout Corona and Jackson Heights, but I would venture to say Tacos El Borrego is among the most popular in the area. Our visiting guero friends might be pleasantly surprised at the prices, but keep in mind they're selling taquitos (#1). The tiny tortillas may make for a fun bite, but the juicy and delectable meat has been a big key to their success. During the weekend, this cart almost always has a crowd. The initial signs of $2 taquitos is an easy sell and is considerably cheaper than most streetside taquerias in the area. Drop another few bucks and one gets a full sized taco, packed to the brims with meat. There are usually a few folks working on this cart and the lines move quickly as a result. Their al pastor (with the added pineapple) is mad tasty and the suadero is stuff made of dreams. I love me some of the carnitas and the campechano. There are condiments to the side of the carts and all tacos can be ordered in a combination of 3 at a time. At some point, I'd love to try everything. One thing I'm never truly clear on is their hours. Some days, they're available and many days the cart isn't around. They're typically a late night operation and offer free delivery as well. Try them all. The flavors are immense. The Al Pastor is like nothing else this far north. The Trompo spins. My eyes dance like fire. The senses overload to elation. Suadero is another not to be found commonly - it is one of the most delectable and succulent tacos which I've ever encountered. Red sauce has a really nice fresh strong heat. Green has a flavour which I cannot immediately discern amongst the glorious peppers... Buche. Who sells that at your local taqueria?! Again- not this side of the border. I had to look it up why lie? The Cebollitas are incredible. Bite into the bulb and suck out the meat - it's more like a leek. Sweet. Earthy. Delicious. Those are just the things which one normally does not see outside of Mexico. Or, at least in most NY Taquerias. All of the regulars are there, waiting, begging.... Go late. There's a definite Mexico City feel- between the cavorting, hookers, and constant noise. The various food smells, the little bit of English heard, brown bagging...and sometimes a bit of chaos. This ain't your safe and cushy NY- this is a piece of the underbelly. If you ever go to a food establishment and you see a line of people, get on that line. I come here pretty regularly because the food is great and I don't live too far. The cart is opened from 7pm to I believe 4am. Most of the tacos are $2 but there are specialty tacos which are $2.50, the tacos are really cheap but you have to keep in mind that these tacos are like three biters. The food: Lengua Taco- This is my measure for any good taqueria and the one here was delicious. The beef tongue was so tender yet so flavorful. This is my fav taco here. Al Pastor Taco- When you get here, you will see this big ass mound of rotating pork, I believe it's their best seller and for good reason, it is amazing. The pork has a Chinese roast pork feel with some nice chunks of juicy and fresh pineapple that pair perfectly with the pork. Buche- I didn't know what was in the pot, but it looked good so I got an order. The guys said it was stomach so I said sure, I really liked this, it had a very clean taste and it melted in my mouth, so good. Suadero- This was another solid item, it wasn't the most exciting but still a solid pick. Suadero is grilled beef. Campechano- This was another item that I saw a ton of people order so I decided to try it, it's like a beef with chorizo blend, it was good. I liked the mix of meat and I like how pronounced the flavor of the chorzio was. Birria- So the birria truck in Jackson Heights is hugely popular and for good reason, that was the first time I ever tried birria so I wanted to try the version here and this was awesome. The difference between the two, the one here was in a soup form but they put a ton of beef pieces. I thought it was packed with meat and the soup was only $4, I would get the soup again, so good. read more

Amazing tacos! Only 3/$5!! My friends and I were walking by and exploring the Junction Blvd area when Pablo invited us over to the stand. He took his time to explain each taco to us. We tried the pastor, bistec, suadero, pollo, and buche. All were excellent. You have the option of "staying in" or taking the tacos to go. The stay in option is more like 4 fold up chairs under the tent but still a convenient/good idea. Quick and friendly service. Definitely will return. We were told the stand is there from 8pm-5am but they seem to open up a little after 8:30pm sometimes. There are multiple taco stands in the same area so be on the lookout for a big white tent. Also, they said they'll be starting an instagram account soon! read more

Best tacos I've had on Roosevelt ave. Got two tacos campechanos. It was a religious experience. Have been to Birrialandia, Coatzingo, and other "biggies" on the strip. While those are good, these are head and shoulders above the rest. read more
