Just ate here for the first time. I'd be inclined to come back in a month or two to see if they've…read morefixed anything... Both my Mom and I had the Haddock & Chips special they were running for $8... all things considered the food wasn't that bad. The fish (5/5) was pretty good. Par as far as expectations go for crispiness and flavour. The chips (4/5) were also pretty good. My only gripe (and it's a stretch) is that the portion size was kind of ridiculous (too much!) The coleslaw (2/5) wasn't that inspiring. It was somewhat dry, lacking a vinegar or dressing to give it any flavour. Anybody can shred a cabbage and instantly have better coleslaw than this. The beverages (2/5) for dine-in customers weren't any different from the take-out ones, which definitely detracted from the experience. Water was served in a cup/glass but pop was can-only. I'm not going to stick around for dessert if I can't get a fountain beverage. The ambiance (1/5) is cold and uninviting. The lights are so bright that my eyes hurt. Not a place to go for an intimate meal. The tables and chairs are sparse, as if to say "we don't anticipate filling this restaurant with customers". The decor (3/5) was clean and sharp but there's not much of anything interesting to cast your eyes on while you wait save for a single TV that only a quarter of the restaurant can see. The staff (3/5) was highly attentive to all tables, but there were more than a few instances where staff were just loitering about in the dining room or talking on their cell phones, which was somewhat uncomfortable since we were mere feet away. The checkout experience (1/5) was made incredibly awkward by their POS device from Clover. The brand-new touch-screen device wasn't responding properly to the screen being tapped. No checkout experience is comfortable when the server (albeit necessarily) has to hover over the customer in case anything (which likely will here) go wrong. Kudos to our server though - she did a great job walking us through the transaction. I'm not one for permanent reviews, so if the owner ends up reading this... continue to make incremental positive changes to the restaurant and I'll be back!

Grandma Loves You - Meatball sandwich - 12-inch

I was thrilled to learn about Grandma Loves You (GLY) opening its first location in the greater Toronto area. It's in York region in Aurora. Woo hoo! A few Yelp experiences at GLY's original location in Rosedale made me love the sandwiches and croissants. It has since moved its flagship location to Yonge and St. Clair, and has opened a few more locations. I have yet to visit the one near St. Lawrence Market. Someday, I'll get there. In the meantime, I had to visit this brand new location and made my way up here two Saturdays ago. Out of all their stores, parking here is the best. It's free. It's straightforward. It's easy and stress-free. There were a set of stairs to get you to and from this place. I was hoping that there was a ramp for those who need a wheelchair somewhere. I didn't see one. I got here at around 2 pm. It was pretty busy. My original plan was to dine in. It looked like I had do takeout. I had the most helpful, sweet woman behind the counter. I wanted a meatball sandwich, which is my favourite. I was rusty ordering it. She guided me through everything. You can get their sandwiches that are like subs in either a 6" or 12". I went with the latter. She said that there was a seat just behind me. There were more like lounge chairs. I was down nabbing a comfy chair. I also got a Diet Coke in a can. I needed something to wash everything down. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. She asked for my name and would call me when my order was ready. The best customer service occurred when this woman brought my sandwich to me. Wow! It was such a kind gesture. I thanked her and then tore through it. Oh, how I love the meatball sandwich! So many meatballs were packed into this sandwich. Each meatball was yummy and juicy, with the perfect amount of sauce. The lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cheese pulled everything together with the most perfect bread. The Diet Coke was in the fridge next to where I was sitting. I grabbed a can. It was cold and delightful. Before I left, I got a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie to go. Starbucks used to offer this cookie eons ago. I don't know why the franchise took it off the menu. It was awesome. Well, this cookie was delicious and make me forget about the Starbucks one. It was packed full of white chocolate and macadamia pieces. It was just under $4 after taxes, but so worth it. I used the washroom before I left. There is only one stall. It was clean. but expect to take turns using it when it's busy. I am glad that I finally visited this location. Welcome to York region and Aurora, GLY! I'll be back for more. (398)

We visited around 3PM on a Friday and there was no wait. Immediately upon walking in (be careful…read morefor the steps) the SMELL of this place is phenomenal. I've never had mortadella before so I ordered the 4 Seasons as well as a hot dog. The hot dog is decent. The sausage is nicely grilled so it enhances that smoky flavor. The bun was a sesame bun but dry - just OK. Not sure it is worth the price or that I'd order it again. But when it comes to the sandwich, the ingredients were so fresh, the meat was delicious, the sauces were yummy, and it is overall composed really well. I'm a very saucy girl so it's slightly on the dry side for me, though. If I had to equate it to another well-known chain, I'd put this up there with Jersey Mike's, but perhaps with an edge because of the curated sauces and freshness. I love you too, Grandma!
