The hostess added my phone number to the list and we were seated after receiving a text. I ordered the On the Border skillet over seasoned potatoes, scrambled eggs and a side of pancakes. My meal was seasoned well and the salsa added a fresh element to the skillet. My husband ordered the Denver omelette with potatoes and pancakes. He's a harsh pancake critic but he gave these a great rating and I agree! Our food came very fast after ordering. We ended up at the bar, which was good, because it was quieter. I ordered coffee, pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, and french toast. The french toast was slightly undercooked. That was fine. Review Visit: August 20th, 2022 Eggcellent Cafe was... mostly excellent. It was a nice and dreary day that started with the slightest of hangovers from a wedding the night before and a yearning for something delicious to fill our empty bellies. Doug suggested we try this place as he wanted to sample a place that wasn't a national chain. It had been on my list for awhile now so next thing I knew, we were snapping a fun photo with the sign and heading in for some food. I had been in this specific building before when it was Crust Pizza. I was instantly reminded how small the location was when we walked in and saw that seating was limited and tables were somewhat close to together. Things were far enough away where you could have a conversation with your company but it could easily be heard by the people next to you if you listened well enough. We were seated at a table and lucky us, we got there when the restaurant was half-full as within 30 minutes, every table was full and people were being seated outside. Our server was super perky and took our drink order and food order within a reasonable time despite running her tail off. Doug ordered the Irish Benny and I got the Eggcellent Combo. The cooks must've been in a good groove as we got our food in a relatively short order considered how busy it was. There was a bit of a funny moment when the waitress put my pancakes down in front of me and then came back a second later to top off my coffee and I tried to move my cup out of her way because I thought she had syrup in her hand and was going to douse my pancakes with it... but it was the coffee pot and she had to chase my cup around the table to fill it as I sleepily tried to keep moving it out of her way. Once my cup was filled and I was given the actual syrup container, Doug and I dug in. My meal being just two pancakes, two eggs, and two bacon strips (which I gave one to Doug cause he was eyeing it), it wasn't mindblowing delicious but it was just what a sleep-deprived-and-slightly-hungover me needed. The applewood bacon had a nice crispiness to it and the pancakes had a buttery smoothness to them. Doug on the other hand was in love from first bite. He has some culinary schooling so he knows that nuances to look for and Eggcellent Cafe knocked them out of the park for him. He raved about how his hash browns were nice and crispy, how his biscuits were homemade and how the basics were done to perfection. He loved the place so much that he looks forward to visiting again when he comes back next year for our usual beerfest shenanigans. He let me sample the hash browns and they did have a nice crisp to them. I took a spoonful of his sausage and gravy and while it didn't knock my socks off, it did for Doug. The theme of the restaurant was, to me, a bit of a hybrid of a coffeehouse, a diner, and something else. I couldn't quite place my finger on what it made me think of but it was all very nice, new, and well taken care of. I didn't get to snap as many interior photos as I wanted to be courteous to those who were eating and those who were being seated/leaving. I was quite surprised at how busy it was considering the location leaves a bit to be desired. It's not hard to get to the restaurant, it's just tucked away enough that you might overlook it or not be in the right spot to see it. The pricing is a bit higher than I eggpected but the place definitely delivers a higher quality meal than, say, a diner might. This is really an eggcellent place to get breakfast, even if my meal was more simple. I have some other friends that are interested in checking it out so maybe I will sample their lunch menu if and when we drop in. read more

We were leaving Peoria headed to Chicago to catch our flight but had a little extra time and looked for somewhere to eat. When we arrived the line looked way out the door, there were so many people waiting and we were worried it would take forever, but we didn't want Panera so we took our chances here. We were sat almost immediately being only a party of 2. The server was sat 3-4 tables at almost the same time and she went from one to the other like clockwork. She gathered everyone's drink orders and had our drinks out very quick. After that she went to the tables in the same order for food. She was very efficient, very kind and smiled through it all despite how chaotically busy it seemed. When I tell you we were there less than 15 minutes before our food came out I'm not lying. From the time we sat down we had our drinks and food in 15 minutes or less. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Service was spectacular and we were so glad we decided to take the chance with the line because they had things streamlined so well. Our party of five had wonderful food and a super server. I had a BLT, which was one of the best I've ever had and the rest of our party had breakfast items. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection! The owner was greeting customers as they came in and as we were leaving, it was nice to have a chat with him and tell him how much we enjoyed our food and our service. It's obvious from the first bite when the ingredients are good quality, and it was definitely obvious here. The eggs, as stated on the menu, are cage free. The pancakes were light and fluffy. Everything was delicious, prepared with attention to detail, and it showed. This style of breakfast often can be greasy and heavy, but at the Eggcellent Cafe, that was not the case. After my favorite East Peoria Breakfast diner closed (June Bugs) I started looking for a replacement and it's Eggcellent Cafe in the East Peoria Levee District. I've been coming here since their opening and now it's time for a review. I'm a creature of habit and my favorite item is the Cluck Cluck Skillet. Eggs, sliced up chicken tenders, bacon, cheese, hash browns and white sausage gravy. Then it come to the bread I will pick from multiple choices depending on my mood. Your can ask for toast, cinnamon toast, a biscuit and gravy or pancakes. A note about toast. It does NOT come pre buttered, so butter it when it arrives so it will melt. Highlights: - Always very clean - FAST! The food comes out fast. - Very friendly owners and staff. - I love that I can scan the QR code on the ticket and pay with my phone. - If they are busy you can always eat at the counter. - I enjoy a Mimosa with breakfast every once it while. - All the food looks 'Eggcellent' when I watch it go by. Quality yolk, accommodating and quick to seat us, got an outdoor table on a lovely Saturday brunch date with some friends, and I noticed a nice inside too with plenty of options for solo and groups. Menus were rounded out, plenty to get most anyone happy, smart variety to treat all sorts. I was tempted towards skillets but then noticed the Benedicts! Wow so many, I craved both the Irish and the Southern so asked if I could swap the muffins for the corned beef. I was granted my wish! Great to be able to swap fries for side salad too! Turned out smart and ideal for flavors and any reason to add protein and remove carbs. This is an eggscellant cafe, missed a bit of hollandaise sauce to cover more beef but combined with a bloody marg, watching my friends hog down their desserts, I mean French toast and crepes, we couldn't fault these eggs. This is a hard one to review. The staff is friendly, but lacks trainIng. The food is ok, but how can you mess up breakfast? They did. Two weeks in a row I wanted hashbrowns crispy all the way through. Constant fail. Finally I asked for them scattered and crispy...no change. People working here super friendly and quick service, decent prices, large portions and solid menu. I ordered the turkey club with fries for $11...WOW...huge plate of food. This was my first time here. The service was very good with a nice ambiance. I had the classic eggs bennidict and found it to be lacking. The eggs were overcooked (yoke mostly hard with some gelatinous consistency), and the hollandaise sauce bland and a little too thick. The food wasn't bad, but not what I had hoped for either. The ham was very good, however, being a nice thick slice and nicely browned. I had the organic green as a side. The dressing (a raspberry vinegarette) was very good, but the greens were a bit dry and wilted. The inside of the restaurant is super cute on the inside, and the server we had was super sweet and kind the whole time and very helpful. We got the caramel apple French toast, smoked salmon egg Benedict, and cluck cluck skillet. The French toast was definitely the star of the food, the skillet was a bland and the tomatoes on the Benedict were overripe and very bitter tasting. The coffee was good, and the orange juice was fresh squeezed which is always a huge plus.
