My dad passed away unexpectedly and I could barely think about the next steps moving forward but I knew he wanted to be cremated and they guided me through the process respectfully and efficiently. When I picked up my dad's ashes I should of asked the woman working who handled everything and was ready to work with me at my own pace. I would remove my mom but her ashes are scattered in the butterfly garden which we can not access. They keep the gates locked. The grounds and the buildings are in deplorable shape. They are not a 5-Star they are not even a 1-Star. A large part of the mausoleum was built and designed in 1909 by Julia Morgan. She is world known for her work at Hearst Castle. The original buildings have historical status which is probably why the owners are letting it deteriorate... partially why we picked this location was for the history and the fact that Julia Morgan history is there. We paid for a dignified place to take our mom. We were promised well kept gardens and visitation from sunup to sundown. The way it is today .,,,This is not what we paid for. I've called and no return calls.

From reporting the death of my husband, to sending death certificates my experience was horrible…read more I never received notice that my husband's body was picked up, they actually told me I had not reported the death- Untrue- the charge nurse and I called it in, when we finally "found" his body they called me by the wrong name, had the wrong information for the death certificate-- the final had an error-- the county had to fix it and were unresponsive. I did rrecieve my husbands ashes- in a box that would scare the faint of heart-- shipped to my home with hazmat stickers all over it-- a friend took it away, and the death certificates- with errors 7 weeks after his death. A terrible , non responsive experience-- during a time where some compassion would have been great. No call answering, no email responses, multiple errors.

They specialize in coordinating bringing families to loved ones from CA to Mexico, when needed, but this was the reverse scenario, and was significantly more complicated. Jaime and Jessica bent over backwards for our family, and through all the red tape (and there was an enormous amount of red tape) and they were always extremely kind and thoughtful, and forthcoming on updates. Jessica even continued assisting us, while still out on leave, so that she could assist in translating the documents from Mexico. We can't thank you ladies enough!!! When doing price comparison's Eggen & Lance Chapel were very affordable, very accommodating, and their funeral chapel very pretty. I highly recommend them. Had it not have been for their hard work, my family member might still be stuck in Mexico, or forced to be bured there. And in the process of finding it, there was a lot of searching and walking the cemetery. It is in very good condition, one of the "lawn" style cemeteries rather than "park" style. Laid out in lines with sections and lanes between them, it's an easy walk and in fact a number of folks were here that were clearly not mourners but walkers. I would suggest that if you are walking, do so respectfully and no, dogs are NOT permitted in the cemetery at any time. Ripley was born in Santa Rosa n 1890. He moved to New York in 1913 to work for the New York Globe. Writing a regular feature, it grew from weekly to daily publication and was soon syndicated to a variety of newspapers around North America. At the height of its popularity it was estimated that "Believe It or Not" was being read by daily by 80 million people. On May 27, 1949, Robert Ripley succumbed to a heart attack at the age of 59. He is buried alongside his parents here. Ripley's burial plot is in the LOT section that is sort of between the Santa Rosa Memorial Park and the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery. After a previous experience with another funeral home where everything felt urgent, this was completely different. The atmosphere here was serene, welcoming, and allowed us the space to breathe, ask questions, and make decisions with care. We genuinely felt supported every step of the way. Because of this experience, I now feel inspired to plan my own arrangements ahead of time so my family can focus on grieving and being together, rather than navigating logistics during such a painful time. They were amazing as I navigated through last minute, challenging complications with my mom's remains leading up to her burial.... and they didn't even handle her or cremate her when she passed (an East Bay mortuary did). They truly went above and beyond even coming to pick up my moms remains at my home and finding a way to ensure it would arrive safely close to her burial site since I could not take her on a plane with her urn. They were kind, compassionate, professional, thorough, and go above and beyond at a time when it's really needed. Thank you Eugene, in particular!
