The best thing about Egger's Ice Cream Parlor on Forest Avenue is its historic presence at that location for over 90 years (1932). It is surely a community fixture with generations of families stopping by to celebrate the best things in their lives with homemade ice cream and an assortment of candy in dozens of glass jars along one wall. I admit to stopping in after an epic brunch at a nearby Greek diner, and to being too stuffed to dive into their flavors of the week 'screams. My friend was not as disciplined as I, so she ordered a cup of some chocolate peanut butter which she kvelled over. Apparently, they also had an orange long stringy confection that she wanted for later indulgence. All very cool, but she isn't diabetic. The ambiance of Egger's is definitely mid-twentieth century, and could use a fresh coat of paint to brighten the joint up a bit. Maybe better lighting, too. Otherwise, growing up in the City (Washington Heights) in the same era, this malt shop/candy emporium with long counter and spinners brought fond memories of my childhood flooding back. We walked in and were treated like homeless on line at a soup kitchen on thanksgiving . We might have sat. But after rudely being told menus are for dine in people only. Why would we want to stay . Always a delight to go to Egger's! I went in late October and took advantage of their pumpkin s'mores scoop and a vanilla pb scoop. Oh! I opted for the junior scoop- the regular scoop =2 scoops and that would've been a bit too much because I wanted two different flavors. I added fluff and peanut butter for toppings. My partner and I were seated in the parlor and we found the staff to be nice. We came her Saturday evening after dinner and it wasn't too quiet, few other customers as well. As a staple ice cream parlor in Staten Island, we decided to try out Egger's on a Saturday evening! There is a good amount of parking in the strip mall parking lot and the place wasn't too crowded when we came. This is surprisingly more of a sit down ice cream place where they give you a menu and take your order rather than the usual take out ice cream places that I am used to. However, they do have an option to order out! We were allowed to sit anywhere we wanted, so we sat at the counter. It took a noticeably long time for the staff to take our orders. However, when they did take our order, the staff was perfectly nice and our ice cream came out relatively quickly! I got 1 scoop of the coffee ice cream and my boyfriend got 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sprinkles. 1 scoop is actually technically two smaller scoops, so we came to the conclusion that 1 actual scoop must be the junior scoop. The ice cream was pretty good and met our expectations! The vanilla ice cream came with plenty of chocolate sprinkles, so you will definitely be satisfied. WOW!!!! Went to eggers last night and had a wonderful experience. The waitress was so so nice. She took our orders and reviewed with us what we wanted and she made our ice cream sundaes to perfection!! The service was impeccable. Old school ice cream shop! How fun. Ice cream, cakes, candy, and soda. It felt so reminiscent to see the Jones soda in the fridge. Good place to bring kids. The workers here are amazing, but the owner, Daniella, is incredibly disrespectful. I witnessed her harassing employees on multiple occasions, and I, too, was a victim of her harassment. The store itself is disgusting. I'm honestly shocked they're still in business. Daniella is a terrible owner, and her employees deserve so much better. It's a completely unprofessional environment. She shows no empathy toward her staff, and there's no real help available because HR is her mother. I worked there for a while, and not once did I come home feeling like I'd had a good day at work. If she doesn't like someone, she cuts their hours and even withholds pay. As for the store conditions, there were mice and bugs everywhere. We were told to act like we didn't see them, even as they crawled around. Daniella constantly belittled employees and summer interns. She is, without a doubt, one of the most disrespectful people I've ever met. I truly hope she learns how to treat people with the respect and care they deserve. P.S. 4/5/22 I literally just now brought my 5-year-old daughter here because we just missed the ice cream truck and I told her I would get her ice cream for doing well in school. We walked into Edgar's on Forest Avenue and we were completely ignored by the 2 young woman that were working there. When they did make eye contact they looked completely miserable, with the most unwelcoming look I have ever seen. We were ignored for 7 straight minutes while I stood there with my young daughter in my arms, who was looking forward to her strawberry ice cream. Eventually I got fed up and I said we're out of here. There was no one else in the store! I couldn't believe that we were just ignored like that! I brought my class of 7 special education students to Eggers on a class trip last week for what I thought was going to be a fun-filled celebration. However, a few mishaps occurred, some greater than others, that I feel need to be surfaced for the public to be aware. The day before our confirmed event date, I received a call stating a new hire double booked our class with another school. No problem, I understand that these sorts of things happen sometimes and we were asked to arrive a half hour later. I said we would try but the buses were already secured for a certain time so there was no guarantee. I was reassured that even if we were to arrive early, that they would accommodate. Fast forward to the following day, my class arrived 15 minutes after our originally scheduled appointment time (so 15 minutes "early" based on the call the day before). As soon as we arrived, two associates immediately confronted and began screaming at my class to "Get out, get out, get out. You can't be here!". Taken aback at the horrific customer service, I immediately turned around and began to usher my students back outside to the sidewalk. As we walked out, Anna came to us and politely asked if we could wait 5 minutes and they would be ready for us. As I spoke with Anna, my students who were still outside began peering into the window and were repeatedly reprimanded for simply looking into the store by the same two associates who confronted us earlier. If not for Anna's calm demeanor, I would have ended the trip right on the spot. As for the trip itself once we were in, Anna was a fantastic and engaging tour guide despite her colleagues repeated efforts to derail the trip with their awkward glances. Even though we were ultimately accommodated, the first impression coupled with the general feeling of being unwelcome there made my students anxious and defensive, questioning whether they were being discriminated against. I did call the manager (a female) to express my concerns following the trip on the same day. They took my information and said they would be in touch for "what they could do for us". One month later, and I have yet to receive that call back. I expressed that I was not looking for and still am not looking for any compensation. All I want is for the two clearly disgruntled employees to simply do better and understand how to treat young children and for the management to follow through on their word when customers express concerns. read more

I've heard awesome things about this place and wanted to love it but I thought it was just okay. They do give huge scoops and the ice cream is good - just wasn't amazing to me and I've had better. I got the flavors strawberry with fresh whipped cream and cookies and cream. For the strawberry, I would have loved if there was more strawberry bits inside but the ice cream itself was creamy and smooth, and they gave a lot of whipped cream! For the cookies and cream, I also wished there was more oreo pieces inside as well. The interior of the store is super cute inside, filled with lots of candy, even the super old ones that brings back memories of when I was a kid. I moved to Staten Island in 2002. My family and I used to come here often. Now its not the same anymore. It lost its vib and the portions are too small for the price. And the ordering is hecktic and the people behind the counter were not organized. Terrible service. I now just go to Carvels on forest and be done with it. Forest Avenue location! The ice cream is delicious, and I have ordered many cakes over the years from them, but my most recent on 9/30/23 I was very disappointed. The cake was not decorated at all the way I requested. I ordered almost the same exact cake previously with no issue. So, it's not like they can tell me they don't decorate it that way. I understand people make mistakes; however, we went over the order 3 times. Anyhow, what was even more aggravating was the nasty woman I had spoken to about it. I was very polite and had said the cake was not decorated as I requested can anything be done about it. Her reply, that's what it said on the order. I tell her whoever took the information wrong. This is a fabulous place and my husband and I have gone here for many years. Today, Tuesday, July 22 at 2 p.m. I decided to visit Eggers with my friend. The woman behind the counter, Danielle, was very nasty. We decided that once we got our ice cream, we would sit in the room in back. I've been an eggers fan forever. I've never had a problem. They are amazing and the owner is lovely. Went to the forest ave store tonight and the ice cream tasted very off, sour. Wasn't sure if it was the ice cream or toppings but a few of us used the term sour about our orders. Daughter ordered a root beer float and it was coke a cola with ice crea., which was gross. The cherries and or wallnhut toppings tasted awful. I never ordered chocolate syrup and jt was on my order. And just overall , no one finished their ice cream for the first time ever bc we have been eggers fans for 20+ years. Telephone pick up orders constantly not ready and again under portioned (half empty containers). In person service is slow. I moved back to the area a few months ago, and since it's been nicer out, I've been here about 3 times in just a few weeks. Each time I went, the service was HORRIBLE. Another night a friend and I sat for 30 MINUTES until we had to physically walk into the other room and request to order. Recently I tasted Egger's ice cream at a friend's house on Staten Island. The chocolate was smooth and flavorful but the banana was extraordinary. The combination of real banana taste and the richness of the cream combined into something special. I really want to love Eggers but the establishment has gone down hill over the past few years. The ice cream itself is to die for, but the staff and management are a joke. First off all, Danielle, I don't know if you are running the social media, but your Instagram needs some engagement. Not only have I've seen a couple of recent complaints on your posts (you may want to check that out), but I have written to you via DM, got no reply, and then had to take an extra step via phone call when I was turned away from Richmondtown earlier this year, for a large takeout order. This is when you were open for your Igloo experience, which may have been the only time I've seen you engage with your customers (no surprise since it was an easy $50, at least, from each family in your pocket!) I've come back to Richmondtown earlier this week, and then today to Forest hoping to try your Patriotic Rainbow Cookie Flavor. Its sold out yet it is still being advertised on your page (make another batch then!) Well not only did you not have the flavor, which is fine, but we sat down and waited 30 minutes until we were served. Then the ice cream came out another 20 minutes later, and I kid you not it was all melted. I really wish I took a picture but what an embarrassment to bring that out to the table. We sent it back and got no apology or anything. We were looking forward to our visit but had to get up and leave. Such a shame and waste of our time! I'm all for supporting a small and family owned business, but do better. Engage with your customers on social media. Train your staff.
