Alfonso's is our go to bakery when visiting from NJ. I have been coming to this bakery since I am a child and decades later it's still the best. After all the old Italian grandfathers stopped buying $450-$500 in pastries on all the big holidays, after Covid, things got bad. This is most likely the end. They run out so call before going! -Sfogliatelle: nice thick cheese filling. -Red velvet cake: good velvety flavor but nice and light. I stored some in the freezer and was able to eat directly from freeze because it is light so did not really harden. -Napoleon: I am particular about my napoleons ; I believe they should only be filled creme patisserie vs white cream filling and that it all should have put together with enough time to allow the pastry layers to be cut without. If you shop here and are not paying CASH be careful they are charging 25% for your credit card purchase. My bill was $96.83 before tax and after they charged the credit card surcharge it was $122.02. Just left there getting bread for Easter Sunday. They open at 7am for holidays and there is always a line that starts usually 630 so be prepared to wait outside just to get into the store. The girls who work are very good though getting people in and out. Made it inside and taken care of maybe 715 the latest and only had 4 regular twisted loads of bread left. DO BETTER, especially at the prices you charge which are higher than any other bakery on the island. Now first let me say, the baked goods are very good. But I won't ever order from here again. As I was leaving the South Shore Commons earlier today, one of their delivery drivers felt the need to completely tailgate me as I'm driving. I proceeded to hit my brake and the guy nearly rear ends my vehicle. As we make the turn, same driver goes into the right lane, nearly hits another car and speeds off. I called the store and spoke to a young lady who answered very politely and advised she was the manager. When I expressed my displeasure about the driver, she started laughing as If I was joking. Once I stated that I would be leaving a negative review, then and only then did she take my call seriously. Absolute joke. Keep in mind this is the same place that got shut down by the DOH and currently has a C grade according to yelp. I was at a family members house who had a few "fresh" cakes and pies from one of Alfonso's locations, not sure which one but I was a bit hesitant to eat any of it due to their history. I figured why the hell not and just give them a try and of course I had to find an issue with both of them. Cake #1 which was in a napoleon style was great tasting until I found that the crumbled garnish was nothing more than just old crumbled napoleons. They sprinkled extra powdered sugar over the top to cover the green mold on the garnish. Cake #2 was an apple pie with crumb on top. Once again moldy crumb covered with a generous layer of powdered sugar. Nice. It seems like they should check the freshness of their product more often and not try to cover it up with powdered sugar. read more

Pros: The rainbow cookie crumb cake pastry is probably the best thing I ever have from this bakery. The raspberry napoleon (maybe wrong name) is actually pretty good. When I used to work for the Post Office and when I had to work on Sunday's, I usually go to them for their Iced Coffee. They kept me going to finish the amazon packages. Most of the staff are friendly... one or two were unkind to me. One of the staff was nice enough to hold on to the car keys that I mistakenly dropped in the bakery as soon I left with the sweets. I came back in a panicking and they knew it was my keys. Cons: The worst cannolis I can ever have. The shell is soggy and the cannoli cream doesn't taste fresh. The cannoli cakes are soggy. You want to enjoy a cannoli or two or celebrate a birthday with a cannoli cake, go to Cake Chef, Royal Crown or Renato's. read more

I heard so many rave reviews about this place and had a function to go to later that week so I made a leap of faith and trotted on down to Victory Blvd in the rain to see what is so great about this place. Their selection puts other bakeries to shame. I ordered some fresh pastries and a few just for myself (I couldn't resist the Napoleon) ; spent around $30 and went home. Driving back that pastry was talking to me so I pulled over and sunk my teeth into that Napoleon and I just can't explain the taste. It was absolutely pure heaven. It tasted so fresh and so delicious I just had to know what made this so yummy! I called them and asked and their secret was that they make their own cream and ah hah! - OK so I am rambling.. Moving on... Everyone at my function loved the pastries and even complimented me on going to Alfonso's. Wow! I thought. The next day I drove back and got myself 3 more large Napoleon's.
