Our hotel recommended this spot for a hearty breakfast, and I'm so glad we listened. The menu had plenty of tempting options, including a Grand Marnier French toast that my mom was extremely tempted by but ultimately passed on in favor of the protein-packed meat trio breakfast--bacon, ham, and sausage. She swapped the lyonnaise potatoes for fruit (a $4 upcharge), and it was worth every penny. This wasn't your sad cantaloupe situation--we're talking dragon fruit, pineapple, grapes, blackberries, blueberries, golden berries, mango, banana, watermelon, and strawberries. The portion was so generous I ate half of it myself. Both meals came with fresh buttered sourdough toast, and we splurged on fresh-squeezed orange juice. Our server was fantastic, keeping our coffee cups perpetually full--and when he noticed how much we loved it, he sent us off with to-go cups as we left. That's service. The place was packed and buzzing--understandably so on one of Montreal's first warm weekends after winter. The patio opens onto a pedestrian area and was completely full of people soaking up the sunshine. It was a bit loud with the crowd, but that's the price of popularity. The food here was so good! I had a huge breakfast which filled me up for the whole day. My husband had the ricotta and orange pancakes which he said were really good. Warning - the kids pancakes have ricotta and orange zest in them. Huh? It would be nice if the server had mentioned this. As a result, my son didn't eat them. Pancakes are one of his safe foods (he barely eats). The restaurant kindly took them off the bill, but it would have been nice to know in advance. An open and airy space, with a good sized patio, noise from the nearby construction was inescapable when I happened to eat here in the late morning. Perhaps it is better earlier in the day. Everything else about my visit to this restaurant was fantastic. I enjoyed my breakfast here so much, during my two day visit to town I returned the second day for another one. The servers (I interacted with five of them over two visits) were all friendly, helpful, and attentive. I couldn't have asked for better service. It's an American style breakfast with a Canadian twist. Quality- I'm a fan of the duck confit and the potato's. The duck is a bit dry but the sauce they have to compliments the dish well to make it less dry. The potatoes are perfectly burnt to make them crispy but not too brown. The omlette is pretty normal. Nothing special here Quantity- good quantity for the price. The drinks are a bit pricy though Atmosphere- nice place to sit down and eat. While the restaurant felt full, it still had plenty of tables, even without using the overflow area upstairs or filling the patio. A great spot for breakfast/brunch. We've been here a couple of times, as it was within walking distance of the hotel, and promised more substantive food than croissants, coffee, and bagels or fruit. In the Complex de Desjardins, near the Place d'Arts, you can find this place. It's two stories, with seating outside and in. If you want to be seated quicker, since they don't take reservations, you should be willing to be seated inside. The atmosphere has quirky posters and murals that are very Quebec/Montreal focused. Staff are great. Prompt, attentive, and generally good at ensuring your meal goes very well, without being obtrusive and annoying. I had a coffee, mimosa, and the Montreal Benny. The Montreal Benedict was great. It's like an eggs Benedict but with Montreal "smoked meats" instead. It's sorta like pastrami. Very good. The Lyonnaise potatoes (home fries) and side of bacon were also good. But that Hollandaise. Benedicts are made or broken on their Hollandaise. Many do well enough. These folks did it awesome.
