I was downtown and needed to get a photo frame engraved for an event that was 5 days away. I used the Yelp iPhone app (disclaimer: I work at Yelp) to search for "engravers" nearby and EGO was at the top of the list. I was told they could rush the engraving job for a $20 same day rush fee but I didn't need to make use of that service. The selection of styles for the text was wide and in the end I was very happy with the engraving job that was done. The turn around time was about 2 days. I was also impressed with the wide selection of gifts that you can purchase at EGO. Most notably, they have liquor flasks, lighters and trophies and I imagine they'd engrave any of them. Perhaps I'll go here for a trophy if I ever arrange a hot sauce eating competition. read more

This review is LONG overdue! I had a round, silver pendant that I wanted engraved a few days before Christmas to give as a gift to my husband. I was worried it would be too last minute to have the engraving done before Christmas, but Cici responded to my email quickly and confirmed that it could be ready the following evening. When dropping off the pendant, Jason had asked me what type of script I wanted and recommended the font that would look best for the size of the engraving. The best place I know in SF to get classy engraving and awards. No cheap bowling trophies here. I've been coming to this guy for years -- ever since I needed to get a (believe it or not) engraved, desk-sized tombstone. Not only was he able to help me out but did a great job of making one side look just like a tombstone (i.e. little flourishes, flowers, "RIP", the whole nine yards). And, to top it off, they're _fast_. Like one day service if you don't mind paying the extra charge. The owner, Jason, is great to deal with and full of useful suggestions. The down side is that, while not in the "Oh my God!" range, their work isn't cheap. But well worth the money. read more

After a very bad experience with another engraver that had compromised my schedule, EGO really saved this project for me. I was putting together this conceptual art project that involved very small (near-microscopic) laser engraving on microscope slides, which would later be magnified for a poster series. The size I requested turned out to be too small, but they foresaw this error and engraved at larger sizes on extra slides, at no additional cost. I ended up doing even larger engravings, and the results turned out to be perfect for what I needed. The two people I dealt with had a level of professionalism and friendliness that was really impressive, something that you don't really expect anymore. Like the friendly artisan engravers from a different era. Very, very impressed. And their prices were fair, too. I will be coming back for my next engravings! read more

This IS the place for ALL your engraving needs! I needed to get a pen engraved as a gift and Jason at Ego Enterprises was helpful, professional, fast and did a beautiful job. (also they sell pens so really no need to go and buy one first). Plus their office in the Flood Building is easy to get to and a total treasure trove of things to be engraved. If you're looking for a special engraved gift then I would recommend going there first as they seem to have every possible gift you can engrave under the sun. I had a packaging project for school and wanted to get some acrylic engraved for a display during crunch time and was searching around the city for an engraver. I found EGO through yelp, and I am glad I did! Right from the start Jason and his wife Cici were extremely professional and had great project communication, something that is oh so very welcome when you're running on a schedule. Jason was extremely friendly on the phone and explained the entire process, as well as accommodations for some quick last minute changes to the final piece. Their office is located in the totally awesome art deco flood building downtown, and when you walk in their door it's a museum of his beautiful work from acrylics to jewelry and wood, you name it he can probably engrave it. They weren't cheap but the glasses were exquisite and my nephew loved them and started using them right away. When I wrote my first review of EGO Enterprises, I was in a frenzy planning to leave the City for my wedding and may have been harsh. While I was felt misled about the products I bought--flasks for my groomsmen--being made in the US, my displeasure with the finished result was in large part because I personally rushed the process and didn't do my due diligence as a customer. That said, the service was positive. Moreover, when they reached out to me to follow up about my order via telephone because they got the sense that I was unhappy, they took the time to assure me they would correct any issue. That commitment to customer service alone is worth the follow-up review. The folks at EGO are good people, and I would hate for my first review--written in the throes of last-minute wedding planning--to prevent others from getting an A+ product. It was Thu 1/7/10 9am and one of our Senior Managers calls me with last minute request to get two crystal pieces engraved with company logo, personalized names, date, etc and have it in Miami, FL for a dinner banquet where it will be presented at 6pm on Monday 1/11/10 in Miami, FL. The occasion is "Project Completion Dinner Celebration" at Miami Chophouse, Miami FL. There was much risk for me as I realize the exposure of these pieces will be viewed by the CEO of SYSTIME, CIO of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, RCCL Corporate Management, VP of SYSTIME, etc. The tremendous pressure of getting these exactly correct and delivered on time was the challenge I faced. BTW, my office is in San Francisco, CA not Florida. I was surprised and hesitant to take on the request, and I couldn't afford any errors, nor did I know Ego Enterprises other than I read it about it on Yelp. I had not even a clue what to have sandblasted onto the pieces. So, I was in a pickle and forced to find a local vendor to help with a rush order. I start searching on Google, then Yelp! And Smartpages.com-- I called a few places in the Bay Area, and finally found this location via Yelp! I based my decision to try Ego Enterprises based on the Yelpers recommendations below (thank you Yelpers!), and Jason's confidence. -At this point, anything helped. I didn't have time to leave my office and walk around downtown trying to find something either. So instead, I start with a call and email where Jason (owner) helps me. I admit I was a hesitant and a little skeptical with whether or not this really could be accomplished to the exact specifications I required. I had several logistic requests making my order a little complex requiring expert detail. I refused to have it shipped via UPS (they're never on time); I requested FedEx only as I know I can count on FedEx "the world on time". I asked for quick turnaround (within one hour) for first draft; Jason sent within 30 minutes. I asked for a second proof (final draft) as I made 3 corrections; Jason completed within 25 minutes. I emailed logo artwork in "full color, .jpeg high resolution format"; he accepted (usually, you have to send vector file in black/white). I worked quickly with full cooperation at my end and project managers. Entire turnaround time 24 hours. On Friday 1/8/10 2:25pm, I called Jason to ask for the tracking #, he told me it has already shipped. At 2:33pm, I receive an email from Jason with my tracking # and e-invoice attached in .pdf format. I made so many small requests that made this transaction ever so complex with intricate details. He did everything EXACTLY correct without errors, following every detail without fail. Every request; every accommodation. Even half way through, I admit I felt skeptical never having dealt with them before. His assistant, Cici---Well, I never heard of her until she answered the phone. I had called probably 10 times; every time I called I either asked a question, hassled him one more time with another request, one after another. It seemed never ending for me, LOL. No matter how many times I called, he never gave me lip or attitude. Rather, he complied and accommodated me in every respect from every angle, every task. Cici was also very helpful and instrumental in making this my first and successful transaction with Ego Enterprises. And, Jason has other locations too. The result: Everything went smooth and PERFECT. -There's no such thing as PERFECT, right? THERE IS HERE!!!! I went to Ego after reading the reviews on yelp. I had a very special gift that needed some special work. Ego is as promised - expensive but worth every penny of it. I am pretty sure I couldn't get that quality of work elsewhere. The font was perfect, the designs were well drawn. Attention was paid to every little detail including the slight curve that each sentence sat on on the original sheet of paper I gave them. They obviously take a lot of pride in their work, the guy who helped me (I forgot his name, unfortunately) radiated pride when he told me on the phone that it looked good. I am terribly pleased with their work - I had a design I wanted duplicated which cost too much and they improvised and made up a design that looked as good, maybe even better for half the price! It is not really the place for petty bits of work I think. But if you want to make it real pretty and real special, go there. I will definitely go back. My only complaint about this place is that it has the least convenient opening hours in the WORLD, which, when combined with my Olympic-class procrastination skills, made my gift about 2 months late. But given how nice and skillful they are, I'd feel mean knocking a star off for that. Bonus feature: they're in the Flood Building, which I'm mildly obsessed with.
