We went in to order a sandwich from the menu and they told us that "we're not doing that right now" so we ordered out of the display case. After which we noticed that they were making sandwiches for everyone else. When we asked later about it they told us that if their sandwich makers are busy they won't make sandwiches. They were unapologetic and rude about it. I'd find somewhere else to eat. read more

I was married yesterday and originally planned to have a small family luncheon after the mass at Eileen's Bakery. My finance and I were very happy about our decision as the price for the food and the cake were very reasonable. Unfortunately family issues approached and we were no longer able to go as planned. Instead of having a small luncheon and a big dinner that day we had to simply do a dinner at a local restaurant downtown. So I asked if we could cancel the event/meal but still have the cake and please have it delivered. (BTW we had discussed in detail that it was supposed to be a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and purple flowers for decoration.) Again, I was very pleased with what we were offered and had heard many good things about her bakery. Well, that evening, after the ups and downs of the day, I arrived at the restaurant and was informed by my mother that there was an issue with the cake. IT WAS PLAIN WHITE ICING, WITH NO DECORATION OR FLOWERS AT ALL. My sister in law ended up taking flowers from my bouquet to decorate for the sake of a photo! Then we cut it and it was PINK. It didn't even look red velvet. It didn't even TASTE red velvet. It looked like pink food coloring had been added to the batter before baking. I was so displeased. To add insult to injury, we paid for this. And I have to say that I'm so upset I don't even want to call her. read more

I visited this restaurant twice. On my first visit, the food and service was excellent. The staff was very helpful in explaining some of the food choices. I shared with my sister the experience and decided to take her there. I placed our order and waited 15 to 20 minutes before asking the cashier if my order had come up yet. The food had been sitting in a to go bag close to the register. She never apologized for the wait but just responded " Oh they don't tell me when they put orders there". The food was cold, my sister was not impressed and I will not be going the again. read more

The sandwiches are great and the pastries even better. Unfortunately, the staff's rudeness ruins the experience. The first few times, I excused getting the struggle with their staff due to the fact they were really busy. The last straw came this past week when the place was really slow and my order never came. When I inquired, the person behind the counter said I must have missed it when they called it out. Okay, if I didn't hear them, then where did my order go? Here I stood with a paid receipt and no food - - they had the nerve to tell me it was my fault! When I asked for them to remake my sandwich (which I believe was never made in the first place), the clerk rolled her eyes and said she would have to check with someone else. This is the number one old lady spot in town. They have good sandwiches and tasty cakes. Their ice tea is good too. I like the building its in very sunny and the staff has never pissed me off which is impressive. The only thing is its expensive and I always see someone I know when I go there. read more

I asked my mom to order a red velvet cake for my 20th birthday from Eileens because in comparison to the majority of other places in this area, $35 or so for an 8" round stacked cake is pretty fair. The lettering on the cake is absolutely atrocious and has giant blobs as if done with a piping bag that busted open over and over- I can tell from the writing on the box that it must be one of the employees' handwriting, because it's identical to what's on the cake itself. Whoever iced and decorated the cake needs to take some classes or go to pastry school because a child could have done a better job. But then again, I suppose you get what you pay for. The vanilla icing was so grainy and tasted like some sort of scented candle that left a terrible taste in your mouth. The cake itself was not pleasant tasting and was sooo dense- and was more like "pink velvet" than red velvet. The cream cheese filling was greasy and thin and tasted sour; that was really the worst part of it all. Two bites in and I threw my piece in the garbage. I'll be letting my mom take it to work tomorrow so whoever comes into the break room can have at it. I was so excited to get my birthday cake, and I truly could not have been more disappointed when I did get it. I am extremely unsatisfied and will never order anything from this bakery ever again. read more

Was visiting from out of town and had a free day; thought I'd pop in for a nice cafe experience. I ordered a double espresso with whipped cream. The barista grabbed a 16 ounce cup (red flag #1) and walked toward the espresso machine, then doubled back to tell me "I don't think we have whipped cream." I stared at her for a moment, then looked at the menu to double check that I was in a coffee shop that serves mochas and flavored lattes and hot chocolates and the normal drinks that come with whipped cream. I looked back at her and asked her to clarify. "We don't have whipped cream. We have heavy cream and half and half, do you want that?" I kept staring, so she went to the back to ask the manager. Alas, it was a fact. Holding the 16 ounce cup she asked if I still wanted my drink (red flag #2). I then asked for an americano, my usual go-to in new places. What I got was a hot cup of what tastes like the coffee I used to sneak at summer camp that was meant for the counselors. I can't even finish it. Coffee flavored hot water. read more

My wife and I have been going to Eileen's since it was on the other end of town. I love a bakery where the owner comes out of the back at seven in the morning wearing a flour dusted apron and you just know she has been there since 3am. That is this place and that is Trista. Oh--and the treats. This is a real bakery. Many bakeries have beautiful display cases filled with items they bought and are kinda suggesting they created them in house. Trista is a baker of the highest order. If you really need a special occasion cake try her coconut cake. You have to order it the day before. But--birthday coming up? try it. Everything in the case is as good as it looks. The selection varies, she does have a lot of regular items( cruller- just get one-dip it in your coffee and ask your companions to leave you in peace for eight minutes--yes eight--take your time. I love his place. sometimes ordering does take a little while--but the people behind the counter are great They have a large assortment, and you do get the people on the customer side of the counter who , you know, have a little trouble deciding which items they can't order. This bakery gets so much hype but is just not worth your time. In all fairness, I've been there several times for meals and have special ordered a cake. When stopping in to eat, the service is never very friendly and always seems disorganized. The last time I went for lunch, they were out of many of the items on the menu, including both soups of the day and egg salad. The bakery items are mediocre; not super tasty but not terrible, either. Personally, I believe everything is overpriced. And good luck trying to find a place to sit because it's usually packed. The cake I special ordered was very tasty, but trying to schedule a pick up time was difficult and I was told that if the baker had a wedding scheduled that day then she could not accommodate my order. I did try to order another cake on a later date, but for some reason their phone lines weren't working and I ended up being hung up on (I was calling on a landline so I know it wasn't me). Oh, and sometimes they change their hours and don't put notice on their website. I went one morning and they weren't open; a sign was taped on the door saying they had new winter hours. I was not very happy because I made a special trip just to go there and had checked the hours on the website before I left. Not very impressed. There are much better bakeries in Fredericksburg (see my other reviews for more information!). read more

I'm not sure how to start... I called 2wks before our birthday event and asked if they did sandwich trays as well as the cakes. This was on Sunday, February 21. I was told that the Chef would get back to me, my name, phone number and questions were taken. As it was Sunday and they are closed on Monday the lady I spoke to told me to look for a call probably on Tuesday. I received no call back. On February,29, my wife sent a detailed email with a cake order along with contact information and still no one called.. I called again on Tuesday and was told to that an order was being taken and I should call back in 15mins. So I did. I was then told there was no record of an order for me, no problem I just figured I would just give her my order then... I was told that there was another customer waiting and that the person I was speaking to wanted to take care of them and close the store. She had my number and promised to call me back after closing the store. Long story short no call back.... I need the order for this Friday and it looks like a sheet cake from Food Lion is going to have to do at this point. VERY DISAPPOINTED.... read more

I ate at Eileen's a few time in their old location and always enjoyed the food. Yesterday I hosted a shower for a friend in their new location, and the service and food were both great! They were friendly and accomodating, even with people showing up without RSVPs (okay, that annoyed me more than them, but they were fine with adding food and giving us more plates). We ended late, after closing, and they never made us feel rushed, though I'm sure they wanted to go home! Everyone raved about the food - we had a buffet, and the options were the vegetarian, almond chicken salad, ham asaparagus and brie sandwiches, plus the house salad and the sweet potato walnut salad. Finally, we had a pastry selection and a strawberry frasier cake for dessert. The only problem - I specifically mentioned that the guest of honor was allergic to chocolate and requested that they go easy on the chocolate for the pasry platter, but only one choice was chocolate free. I needed a coconut cream pie for my wife's birthday, we have been married 14 years,I get her one every year. This year I waited until the morning of her birthday. I called around and had no luck anywhere in town until I came across Eileen's on Bing maps. I called when they opened and she was very accommodating and said it would be ready by 1:00. I walked into the shop at 11:30 and it was ready. everything in the case looked so good I got some lunch. Ham and cheese roll was so good it melt in the mouth and was delicious. I also got this roll that was on the counter, it looked like just a dinner roll but when I took a bite it was cover in butter and sugar. Loved every bight. So I finally made it home and presented my wife with her birthday pie. Beautiful presentation, covered in coconut and hade a couple of flowers on it. But then we tasted it, of all fourteen years, it was by far the best. Thick creamy perfect. I would recommend it to anyone that's eats good food. I have 32 sweet teeth and it satisfied every one.
