I came here with a friend for lunch. It is a quaint little place located downtown. When you come in it gives you a bit of an Irish pub vibe but upscaled. Personally, I was expecting to really like it here but unfortunately felt like it was just not the place for me. The waitress wasn't very friendly and forgot to add tofu to my salad. The salad itself was fine, but nothing too special. I honestly wish this cafe would have oriented itself more towards being a pub with pub food, rather than a cafe with cafe food. There were some alcoholic beverages that looked interesting to try, so I will perhaps revisit on an evening when I feel like having a bevy or two. read more

I don't think I'd go back. I ordered an Antojito and it wasn't at all what I was expecting. It was pretty much a wrap filled with an inch of spinach, and a little bit of cheese, bland. The salad was good, the presentation was nice. The service was very odd. The server (female, 20?) took orders from half the table then just left without saying anything, then she'd come back and cover some people then leave again. Take drink orders from a few people then disappear. It was bizarre. One person ordered an appetizer and she should have either put it on the bill of the person who ordered it or asked how to split it, but she split it across everyone at the table! 3 of us hadn't touched it. I went here in a group of about 8 people for a quick lunch. I had heard about Einstein's many times and had passed by it but for some reason had managed to go 6 years in Guelph without setting foot inside. The place is located in an old house, two floors with hardwood and a really comfortable down-to-earth feel. We sat upstairs in a little room just large enough for our table, it was a great intimate setting. A bit chilly, though. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. They offer a good selection of salads and sandwiches. I had the sauteed mushroom sandwich with a side salad, and it was all fantastic. Service was really friendly -- i had the impression the person serving us had something invested in the place (emotionally or otherwise) as opposed to it being just a job, which was nice. The bakery attached to Einstein's was lacklustre. Dimly lit, nearly empty display cases with a few varieties of cookie and bar. A little sprucing up would do it some good and perhaps a greater selection as well. This has potential but doesn't seem to be meeting it. I would certainly recommend Einstein's for lunch or dinner -- great food and atmosphere for a good price. read more

Met a friend here for lunch last week, and we sat out on the patio which was quiet and a great place to sit and catch up. I had the avocado and brie sandwich, which was just okay. I love both avocado and brie separately, but I didn't love the flavours together. Also it was really hard to eat because it kept falling apart. My friend has had a lot of really good meals here though, so I'm interested in going back and trying out some other dishes! read more

I'm a lifelong fan of this place. I love the moody atmosphere here at night and I'm a sucker for any business set-up in an old house. The menu is ever-evolving, specials are always pretty great. It's a romantic place for a date in the evening and appropriate for a business-type lunch during the day. The cuisine has an Italian bent... no, it's not a bagel place. You can also listen in to the gossip and chatter of drunk lawyers while you eat lunch- the courthouse is right next door! I've heard the woman who owns this place invented the now famous local Antijito recipe. FYI: Antijitos as we know them in Southern Ontario aren't actually Mexican... they originate from Guelph; you may have noticed that they are served in restaurants all over Guelph and over the past three decades they have spread all over the province and then some. Everybody loves them and that gets her an extra star in my book. Definitely a place to have on your radar, especially if you have people in from out of town. Einstein's has a lot of region-specific charm and is the antithesis of the the likes of Casey's and East Side Mario's. Some people think of Guelph as another commuter town like Burlington or Oakville. Show them they're profoundly wrong with a dinner at Einstein's. read more

My wife and visited Einstein's Cafe a few years ago when we visited Guelph on a weekend trip. One of the locals recommended this place (always a good sign) so we had to check it out. We were very impressed both with the decor (old house) and the food. The menu was very eclectic and portions were large. If I remember correctly, we had the enchiladas with peaches and some type of wrap..both of which were great! I will be sure to eat here again on my next trip to Guelph! Probably the best meal I've had in Guelph to date! I got Pesto Pasta, and it was DELICIOUS. Pesto Pasta is, according to the menu, Fettuccine tossed with pesto, tomatoes, black olives and feta. I think there was some minced garlic in it, too because I could smell it. It was a perfectly cooked pasta and the portion was big as well. I'm not sure how their other dishes fare, but I'd get one of their pasta again. One complaint is that the food does come out slowly, so either order a take-out or give yourself lots of time. This place is small and a little cramped so it may not be best for large groups. read more

I loved everything about this restaurant in Guelph. Romantic appeal, a renovated house offered many rooms with private dining, a serving staff that was absolutely charming, I couldn't get enough. I wish I had known about this place before my fourth and last year at the University of Guelph. If you are looking for food that is fresh, healthy and made from scratch, this is the place to go. The wraps are absolutely delicious and big!! The salad that goes with them is wonderful too. They added some sliced almonds that had a delicious smokey flavour on top of the salad; I absolutely loved it every time I came. I will definitely be going back next time I go to Guelph.
