    Beef sliders
    Mel C.

We started off with the Kobe Style Classic Beef Sliders which were delicious. Then there was a long wait for the main course. My friends ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich (crispy Cajun battered chicken topped with aged Cheddar cheese and chipotle mayo served on a toasted mixed seed bun with a side of house-made avocado salsa) with curly fries and grilled Shrimp California Benedict (grilled shrimp, double-smoked bacon and house-made avocado salsa on English muffin). I ordered the Spicy Tuna Tacos (seared, pepper crusted ahi tuna wiht Asian sesame slaw and spicy chipotle yogurt). My friends enjoyed their dishes but I had some issues with mine. For my Spicy Tuna Tacos, they used unripe avocado. I eat a lot of things but unripe avocado is one of the few things I cannot stand. I also didn't enjoy the raw onion they used in the tacos. If it was sweet onion or cooked onion, I would've loved the tacos. I couldn't eat the dish so I got a different dish that I know I would love for sure - Butternut Squash Ravioli (Roma tomato sauce, Goat cheese, fresh basil and spicy-glazed pecans). The Butternut Squash Ravioli was delicious (as I expected) and I loved the spicy-glazed pecans. We also got dessert. The whole reason why I wanted to come was because I knew they had the Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake (a creamy pumpkin style cheesecake spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, topped with candied walnut topping and whipped cream on a drizzle of house-made caramel) on their menu. My friend got vanilla ice cream because she likes the ice cream isn't too sweet. Me on the other hand love sugar and I thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin cheesecake. It actually tasted like pumpkin (I had many bad pumpkin cheesecakes that just taste like cheesecake and no pumpkin). I would like to give this place 4 stars and the servers were really nice. However, the service was a bit slow.

The food was delicious and our server Eric was very helpful and kind. We were a large party and he made sure to help us all out.

The space actually looks like a high end bistro, so that in itself was nice, as I don't always expect this level of decor in a Delta hotel. For dinner we tried a margherita pizza and the chicken wings. Margherita pizza was pretty good - it had a thin crust and had a slight chew. They have a proper pizza oven, so that definitely helps. Chicken wings with applewood smoke dry rub was ok. It was prepared well, but the dry rub was very mild, almost no flavour. The bartender was handling service because we went during off-hours, so he was mostly focused on customers at the bar. He was nice enough, but didn't check up on us until we were already finished. For breakfast, we had the smoked salmon benny and avocado toast. Both were good. Service was a bit slow, but pleasant. Overall, I was happy with both meals. The food was better than I had expected. Service was always pleasant, but a bit slow both times. I would consider returning if in Guelph again.

They had a large selection of cheese varieties available ranging from camembert to blue cheese, as well as assorted veggies with dipping sauce, grilled flatbread, and homemade panko-crusted meatballs. The event space was large and overall decent, although the seating could've been arranged better, as the booths were quite tight considering our party. The acoustics were also quite loud, and voices were bouncing off the walls like crazy, which made conversations quite difficult. Other than that, the bar did a very good job accompanying us, and my group was satisfied with the night overall.

We walked upstairs to find an empty dance floor and a few randomly scattered patrons. Okay - so not exactly the lovely atmosphere we were hoping for... But nonetheless, since we were more about getting a nice drink - we thought we'd at least stay for one. Sigh. We were disappointed. We watched one table get menus and then patently waited for ours. They did not come. We thought, "...perhaps the dozen or so people here might be overwhelming? So let's wait a little longer shall we? Unfortunately that did not help. I finally went over to the bar and asked for a menu. I was matter-of-factly told that there was no table service on Fridays. We weren't quite sure why - seeing as the waiter to patron ratio was approximately 1:4. We thought we'd just cut our losses - and were getting up to leave - when the waitress later popped by with a menu - saying, "I thought you were waiting for people..." Wow - really?? This review was written from a lovely bar just down the street which does in fact provide table service on Friday night.

It is terrible service to save glasses for only people who are paying to drink, especially when we bought food anyways so we just wanted something to wash it down with. Otherwise, we had nachos that were scarce on cheese, spinach and artichoke dip that was mediocre at best, and the soft pretzels were bland with not a great sauce. I would recommend avoiding brass taps and going elsewhere on the Guelph campus for food and drink.

For a retirement gift, my boss had bought $50 gift certificates to six micro breweries in Guelph, which has been great. We've had dinner at some, but at others, I have just bought cans of beer to go (usually I put in a bit more cash and get 18 cans). This place must not have had a proper gift certificate, because I just had a "pint card" (4 beers value - $34) and the balance was rung up as 2 X 473mL lagers, for about $50. I explained to the server that I was sure this was meant to represent a $50 gift card and she said it was just a pint card and my boss must have drank the two tall boys there (while touring around Guelph to get gift cards at 2pm). Anyway, I finally took the 4 cans, which were $34 plus tax, although for $30, you could get 6 cans. I'm probably going on too long about this, but I feel like I was ripped off and this is my only way to deal with it, emotionally. Anyway, I will never go back there again, and please, never buy a gift certificate from this establishment.

Based on their Instagram they'd worked out early opening kinks and were displaying some really cool cocktails. We arrived on a Friday night in August around 8pm. Seating upstairs in the restaurant was pretty full but there were one or two tables. We were a group of 5 and the hostess at the door seems VERY flustered. We later agreed that she must have been very new. She sat us in front of their front window (garage door style) that was open. It was a chilly night - like maybe 16 by this point. We asked if she could close the door. She said she would check. 5 minutes later, nothing. She cane back with waters and 1/2 the glasses were dirty. Then a waitress came over and we asked if we wanted drinks but we had not been given menus by hostess...ha so we asked for those. We then again if she could close the garage door and she said no. So we asked if we could be moved somewhere else. We were moved to a table meant for 4 but at least we were warm! We ordered drinks and they arrived very quickly- I was surprised at how quick. We ordered meals too...however, these took over and hour to come out. So that wasn't great- and what we ordered were not complicated (burger, charcuterie, fries...). I tried the Brussels which were just okay - the batter on them was weird. The charcuterie board at $22 was kind of boring g and lacked variety. Then our waiter once it was bill time disappeared. So we flagged down the hostess and she said she would get the machine and out bills....well that never happened. So another waitress walked by and we snagged her and settled up. We decided to head down to the speakeasy to check that out. It was much better. Everything was cheaper (cash only) and it was like chilling in a big basement with lots of old overstuffed couches. It was full when we first went down at 10:30 but within 15 it was nearly empty. Very chill and a good winter hangout. Two tips : cash only and the password changes weekly and is on their Instagram (however we were not asked for it)

My daughter loves their burgers which are made from beef they grind themselves, so you can have it cooked to whichever doneness you want, even rare. I want to give them particular kudos for my visit last night when I showed up at about 9:15 and told them that about 9 of my friends would be joining me. They quickly put some tables together and got me a drink. When my friends started arriving it turned out that there were more like 20 of us. They added more tables and quickly got drinks going. The food took as long as you would expect for a table of 20, not a moment longer. Everyone's food came out at the same time, hot and delicious. I had the grilled halibut which was super fresh and beautifully prepared. Everyone in our party commented positively on the dishes they ordered. That must be an incredibly well-run kitchen. Thanks Gin Mill for a lovely after-event evening. One suggestion: an espresso machine or at least coffee and tea.
