There are large lots for resellers and ebayers and smaller lots for expensive items. There are bargains to found. Do your homework. Go to the preview on Thursday before the auction and sign up. This is a fairly new auction house trying to feel their way into the market place. Suggest ignoring any correspondence with this company! They are bunch of cons trying to make their way by defrauding people with their auction front. They will not send you the lot you bought paid for and paid them to ship. Full of fraud only use if you want them to take your money illegally. They will not send to you what you bought and then come up with some story like "try to sue me". then they hang up Ms. Nicole, and Erik Hoyer being the chief con artists of the EJ'S auction and appraisal. My husband, an internationally renowned Art Historian and Appraiser advised the owner of this auction house without charging him for years, while we lived in AZ and also when we moved back to CA. Just recently we have been treated very poorly by junior staff. I purchased a Kate Spade hand bag last year that normally retails for $300+. They have their own in house shipping department and it is not a good thing. That bag was shipped without wrapping paper or bubble wrap around it to protect it, just plopped into a cardboard box and sent. Anyone who knows anything about shipping would realize that cardboard can be very abrasive and do damage to fine leather when it is packed without any protection. That was strike 1. We called and gave them a tutorial about shipping protocol. Strike 2. My husband's sister lives in AZ and has picked up multiple items that we have purchased at auction over the years for us. She was late in picking up an Asian lacquer box and had to call us to verify the lot # and the item because for some reason the staff in the office could not find the item. It was located. This past weekend my husband went online to bid for several items that we were interested in and discovered we had been blocked from bidding. A phone call to the office did not prove satisfactory nor have we heard back from the owner who will be receiving a very harsh certified letter from my husband. It appears some immature, unprofessional employee in that office decided on a petty and inappropriate action. Clearly this person hasn't the slightest clue about dealing with the public and running a business. This will be a very costly mistake. We have already contacted my husband's extensive client list and told them they can no longer trust EJ's to buy from and certainly not to pack and ship anything with diligence and care. They Advertised a Lot of "TURQUOISE & STERLING AMERICAN STYLE JEWELRY" which was not what I received. There were 6 pieces in Lot with only 1 piece that was as described with the rest total man made ceramic beads and stones and absolutely NO STERLING. When I 1st called to make them aware, I was told to pound sand. I paid $60.00 plus their fee of $9.00 plus Tax I was able to Sell the 1 Real Piece for $15.00 and the String Bound Necklace for $5.00 leaving me out of pocket $55.00 with no hope of recovery. EJ's, run by Erik Hoyer, sold me a fake. It was a painting, represented by EJ's as an original by a reputed artist. After the auction I received a letter from the artist's estate confirming that what I was sold was not authentic. I immediately provided this to EJ's and asked them to do the right thing and reverse the sale. They responded by reminding me of the disclosure way down at the bottom of the last page of their very tiny and long print that states: "The auctioneer shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity of, or defect in any lot". That was their "drop the mic" moment, a true testimony to their character and a stunning admission of how they really feel about the customers who make their business work. If you decide to risk your hard earned income on an EJ's auction, just know that they think you are as stupid as me, the dumb customer who was naive enough to think EJ's Auction and Erik Hoyer might have enough integrity to do what any other authentic auction houses would do and right the kind of wrong that defines an auctioneer's reputation. Profiting off of fraud is not a good business model. Good riddance. read more

Auctioneer is still not accountable and lied blatantly. Not once did he give "fair warning" he was ending auction. Not my fault they have scammers trying to bid - I registered with my credit card and provided all necessary info. Not once did they tell me to be on the phone for their auction or give any prior notice - I called ahead of time and they told me to bid on the website and they don't do phone bidding. They should be grateful they reopened the bidding as it made them an extra $2k of buyers premium. Unfortunately, they closed auction without fair warning which is unethical. I was sent an invoice to tell me to pay on PayPal. I sent a payment right away, and never heard from seller. I then had a notice of nonpayment sent from Proxibid. I sent a copy of the payment that I sent on PayPal, left a voicemail for seller, and sent an email and I've never heard from them. Their "manager" Nicole will have you on "hold" literally forever -- she don't come back and answer the phone lol. In the few words I have exchanged with Ms. Nicole, I have received some outlandish attitude. Not only is the manager extremely unprofessional and super unhelpful, but when going to the store it was apparent how disorganized the company is and the major lack of customer service. I can't speak for everyone, but the "helper" that works in the back with the shaved head is a total jerk. Any employee that tells an elderly customer "it's not my problem" needs a lesson in customer service. The elderly customer was in fact my father and he is 73 so I don't understand Erik's response to my original review. My father was kind and respectful and was merely trying to work through the situation to avoid having to drive 45 minutes again to pick up his items. Rather than help him understand, he was told by the employee it wasn't his problem and he would have to come back the next day. The company is easy and quick to To offer a contract and promise amazing sales. Once you sign a contract, they did not seem to care about you as a human or communicating in any effective manner. They do not present your items well through the auction, often having poor pictures and misleading or in accurate information ,even when given access to the correct information. They often group items together it should be singled out.They consistently do not return phone calls easily and have no empathy. It takes weeks and multiple auctions for large consignment. I would not recommend using this action house and I would not use them again. read more

I've bid on site and online without issues with staff or payment options. One lot I won at auction was stolen by someone and unfortunately nothing could be done. I have bought items from them over time via online auction and picked up in person same day or next. Only one time out of dozens I had issue. The issue was a certain person had to handle my purchase transaction & they were not there, even though the email I received clearly stated what days and time to pick up. So, I had to comeback two days later & I live all the way across town. There came upon a time recently when I had to make a choice of liquidating most of a household of Furniture, glassware/China and other household art & decorations. So, I just figured why not use EJ's. Salesman showed up, gave me a rundown of what they would be interested in and how much one could expect at auction. It all sounded fantastic. I opted for the $875 pickup fee instead of delivering all myself to EJ's, as I had two very heavy large NEW China cabinets that they unfortunately got $25 each for. Well, that was a mistake, as I ended up having to help anyways, as they were going to refuse to take them. At the beginning they made a date about a month out to pick up as I guess they are very busy with their main business of Court Ordered estate liquidations. First odd task for the three young fellows that showed up was to toss the huge pile of shipping blankets out of the truck onto the street the day they showed up. In which by the way they never use a one of on my furniture. Well, this is unfortunately how the whole operation went. The young fellow that packs the China/glassware discovered he forgot to bring the bubble wrap I was told by the salesman that they would bring, and he only has a few pieces of used newsprint to wrap things with. I offered some packing paper I had in the garage, and they helped themselves to some of it. However, when he starts filling 2 1/2-foot square boxes with fragile glassware/stemware on the bottom laying sideways only wrapped once with newsprint and paper, and then puts heavy China/glassware on top later to fill the box, without saying anything I could not watch anymore and went elsewhere to chat with another house member. I noticed the packer rather pack objects on my glass dining room tabletop, rather than the kitchen counters we agreed upon. I suggested A piece of cardboard or blanket, and he said, "I'm good, I won't scratch it ". After they left and I vacuumed up the mess left behind and cleaned the glass table, it was scratched quite a bit. Not happy about that. They brought two broken furniture dollies that they could not use and forgot their hand truck. I offered mine, but they said, "No thanks, we've got it". Well, they did not have it, as I could hear them tagging the woodwork and walls trying to ex fill my Furniture. After they left, yes, many dings and rubs, especially the front door area. I never mention any of this fiasco to the home office as that is how I am, but maybe I should have. The foreman noticed many other things that I and the salesman did not think worth auctioning that he wanted to take. I texted the salesman and he said the foreman has authority to decide. So, I said go for it if you think it will bring good $. Well, most of those items never made it to auction. I suppose they tossed them. I have noticed they have a humongous dumpster out back of EJ's that is always full of all kinds of goodies and furniture. I would have rather kept my items. There is a Note on my file at EJ's that states nothing to be tossed or otherwise that does not sell or is not going to auction. This was the verbal agreement made. The staff ignored this. The floor setup manager told me to my face nicely what he thought of my agreement. In other words, good luck getting him to honor it. They started auctioning some items about a month later. I never received notification of upcoming items for auction nor an itemized inventory. Later I discovered they don't know how to spell Hotmail. 3 auctions only 1 item for me at a time, very odd. The other 3 auctions over 6 months they listed more per auction. 4 times they put someone else's consignee number on my items. Yes, they did fix it after I advised. About 10% of my items never made it to auction. Some items IMHO I would have considered very valuable looking at what they got for other consignees' exact same items. Also, they misidentified items about $15% of the time even though I left receipts with items that state what they are. I called twice to correct, but it fell on deaf ears. I went to look once what they had staged for some of my furniture. They mismatched items, and some was soiled, scratched and marred. This is what happened when you do not use the furniture blankets, especially on white furniture and glass topped tables. 8 months in and 2 months after no sales I sent an email addressed to the owner, intercepted by the office manager. I inquired as the reminder of my property that I made a list of. I received a reply about 10 days later. Reply stated read you contract, EJ's is not responsible for theft, broken items or otherwise. I have won a number of beautiful items from the auctions!! It is exciting to be there in person, but easy to get caught up and pay over what your original top bid would have been!! People, both bidders and employees have always been fun to interact with as well. Be careful if you bid online as I learned that the same bid on the floor gets preference. I also called them about consigning some items that were left by a previous owner of a house we bought and they were very honest about how much they thought I would get and it might be better to sell on craigslist. Not a big fan of EJ's. Won a small item for $25.00 and picked it up today. Auctions are on Saturday and you need to pick it up by 3:00 Sunday even though there is a big sign next to the cashier that says items need to be picked up by 4:00. Of course I arrived at 3:30 on Sunday and they were closed up. That was a waste of time considering I drove from downtown Phoenix. When I brought this to the attention of the woman taking payments her response was. It's been 3:00 for the last 6 years????? Maybe they will change the '4:00' to 3:00 before another 6 years rolls around. All this so that they can charge an extra $10.00 for a late pickup. As a side note, I was there when they opened this morning at 9:00 but had to wait with another gentleman for the cashier to arrive for work. Where's my $10.00 for her being late? No class! I am new to the whole Auction scene. Never have gone to any auction besides car auctions many many years ago, as part of my job as a book keeper for a used car lot. Anyway, my son-in-law got me interested, when I started seeing the things he was investing in for their new home. Everything from lawn mowers, to power tools, to LR furniture, to new touchless trash can. All at extremely reasonable prices. When I found my self needing some things for my home, I inquired about how the auction works. He basically gave me a quick idea, but I was still slightly confused. I decided to go to EJ's myself, on a Friday afternoon. I was able to walk thru the the entire auction, see everything that was being auctioned on Saturday, make notes, ask questions etc. I found this extremely helpful for me to understand how everything online fit together. I found a few things that interest me, snapped a few pictures on my cell phone, & went on my way. Their online bidding is a very simple process, & you can start bidding several days in advance of the live auction. You can go in person to check out actual items being auctioned for that week, beginning Wednesday b4 the live auction on Saturday. If you get outbid on a particular item PRIOR to the start of the live auction, they notify you via email, or online if you are logged in to their site, so you have every opportunity to raise your bid. As far as live bidding? I've watched the live bidding on line, even participated online, but have never been in person during a live auction. I have won several of the things I bid on, all from online. Once you win something, you again get email confirming your item, instructions on pick up, & how much you need to pay. Pick up has to be same day as auction, (Saturday) or Sunday by 3:00PM, or they charge $10 a day storage. I've picked up my purchases on Sunday's every time. I even got a reminder phone call, about 2 weeks ago, mid morning on a Sunday , to remind me I had item(s) to pick up before 3:00PM. The lady's who check you out, collect money etc, are always very friendly, & have even helped me locate my things in the past. They are always well organized. & there is someone at both doors who checks your receipt to your items before you can even walk out. I am very happy overall with EJ's. I can't wait for the next week just to see what they have to auction. You never know what you might find that you just can't live without. read more

He took my info and advised someone would call ...3 Hours later I received a call .. now the commission rate increased to 50% of the sale and they now wanted $150 for pick up of items ... I want to give a big thank you to the gang at EJ's for selling my Mom's estate. Cleaning out the house where she and Dad collected some of virtually everything was a sad and overwhelming experience. EJ's made the process of letting go of their treasures fast and nearly painless. If you find yourself in this position give them a call and they will send over an experienced appraiser (Neal is great) and at no cost he'll tell you what will sell. I guarantee you will be surprised. The high quality contemporary furniture your folks bought all those years ago, the subject of endless parent to child lectures, the heirlooms that would appreciate in value--all that stuff is virtually worthless. No one wants dated furniture unless it's a legitimate antique. (Donating it for a tax refund is your best bet.) The real treasures are going to be in the objects that they acquired over their lifetimes. The appraiser gives you the cost of packing and moving the objects, which is deducted from the final sale. Their service costs about twice what you would pay to list on ebay, which when you think about the unbelievable amount of physical labor involved is an incredible bargain. They took away hundreds of items and the attention to detail that they showed and the amount of research they did was simply amazing. If you are in the area you can stop by their auction house and look around and it's an addictive and possibly profitable hobby for lots of people, but their real action is online and their listing are read weekly by thousands and thousands of collectors. I have no doubt no one could have made more money from selling this estate. They made a painful process easy. Thank you, guys. read more

We were sellers and have concluded that this was absolutely, positively, unquestionably not worth it. Give your stuff to St. Vincent de Paul or even Goodwill. You have to gather and transport stuff (like from a storage unit, as we did), meet with these people so they can assess if they even want your stuff, meet them so they can truck it away and then get 15% of the sales price. And they don't care what they sell stuff for, which makes it a better place to buy and an awful place to sell. Their take is immensely front-loaded. We regret using them. read more

i purchased a sculpture with the artists name and birthdate in the item description, clearly indicating it was a piece by that artist. it is not a piece by the artist, it is a copy, a fake. when i called i was told how thorough the ejs appraisal department was. everyone intending to purchase from ejs should question the authenticity of the piece they want to purchase. this is my first experience here. the people i dealt with were good over the phone. ill post a follow up. read more

After bidding with EJ's for a few years with no problems, today I ran into an interesting situation. I bid on a small lot of items on their last auction, and won the bid ($10). No heads up from them that I won-I only received an email Sunday (yesterday) showing that I paid for the item and I could pick it up between 9-3:30 yesterday. The time on the email was 3:45-past the time for P/U. So I called them this morning to talk to them about what happened. Seems it's MY responsibility to keep track of what's going on with an item I bid on-no email from them saying "you won the bid." So, they tacked on a $10 late fee because I didn't pick it up yesterday, and also told me they extended the hours of P/U to 5PM (but that's not in the email). They wouldn't budge on the late fee, so I told them to donate the item. Is any of this making sense to you, because it sure doesn't to me. Bad, bad, bad customer service in my opinion. read more

I have been going to EJ's for a couple of years. Over that time I have seen many of the employees be very rude to customers. In general they they seem friendly but when you need help to get items that are high up on the walls its seems there is rarely have anyone to help and you. But lately I have had two instances where the owner wife who runs the business side and customer service side has been rude and has threaten me with fines because of their miss communications on pickup procedures. When they made a mistake I helped them fix it right away at my expense and I have been a very good customer for a long time and would expect some professional courtesy. I have seen other instances with the employees, even a cussing match being take out on other customers also. The photography has been dismal with only one picture per item no close ups or showing the back of things like electronics or any size measurement to evaluate the size of an item. Talked to them about this still no improvement. The online platform needs improvement as they will close off an item not wait for your bid to come in. Then on the other hand use extreme caution when bidding on line as they will go from $10 to a very high number like $200 or more sometimes. The icon will change just as you click and there is no way to undo your bid. I have had to buy things and pay to much numinous times because of this and they will not accept you not to pay for it. Again threading that you will be barred from the auction. I have become very discontent with EJ's and I think will go back to eBay and garage sales to purchase items read more

This place is awesome. I don't know how/where they find so many great items week after week! Been a customer for two years. Most of the people are very helpful and friendly. Only one person, Jackie, seems overworked and cranky every time we pick up our items from 1000/2000 auctions. Makes me feel like I don't want to buy from those sections. However, not going to let one person ruin it. Today, was worse. She said get your items checked off up front for 2000 auctions. She told me just don't stand there all day. I told her 2000 auctions used to be signed off at the counter. She said she's been there 10 years and it's never been that way. Her snottiness was inappropriate. I did a major move last year and took a full truck and trailer load of items to EJ's on March 26th. Many of my items were scheduled for the next auction date. Then EJ's shut down on March 31st, 2020 due to a Covid directive. On April 30th, I learned, from a friend, that my items would go up for auction on May 2nd - even though the EJ's website still stated that the business was closed. The auction did happen on May 2nd - without a preview day. Several of my antique items were described incorrectly on the website (even though I had provided previous appraisal information with the items), so the sale prices were extremely low. A couple of my items were in the May 9th auction...and nothing was mentioned as to when my other, unaccounted for, items would be sold. I kept asking when the balance of my items would go up for auction. Finally, in October, I was informed that I had no items left to sell. Supposedly, the balance of my missing items were deemed Unsellable and were Donated - with no accounting of any sort being provided to me. The items deemed Unsellable included a vintage fur coat and numerous highly desirable vintage collectibles - that had come directly out of a locked display case at an antique mall. After numerous communications, a stack of photos of the items I dropped off were mailed to me, so I could attempt to figure out some sort of value for the items EJ's deemed Unsellable and Donated. read more

These are not the kind of guys that you want to do business with... They will take your possessions and despite their representations, you're lucky if you see a dime from them! I wish I had seen a review like this one and I wouldn't have fallen prey to their scam. Let me tell you how they operate and what happened to me. 1. They will send someone out to see the items that you want to sell to tell you how much it will cost you to have them "picked-up"; but don't worry, they will take it from the "proceeds". 2. When they pick-up the items, they refuse to provide a "bill of lading" to show what items they have taken for transport, saying, "That's up to you to keep track." (see Missing Items, #6 below) 3. They will refuse to let you set any minimum value on any of your items - if they did, their scam wouldn't work so well. They couldn't say that your item 'sold' at auction, but you didn't get anything for it... a like new condition hutch and cabinet that cost over $800. that I wouldn't have taken $80. for, they 'sold' at auction for $10! (Just one of many.) As if that could be called any kind of an auction! (This is also very unlikely to be the case - when you put it all together, it's part of the scam.) 4. The 'settlement' paperwork that lists your items didn't show-up as 'agreed' within the 21-day period. I had to call them to get the "settlement" paperwork WITHOUT a check for the "proceeds". What I got back was a joke... a number of items were "donated" to Goodwill, but the receipt for the items was completely BLANK! No listing of the items 'donated', nor a signiture of a Goodwill employee showing receipt of any items... not as much as a date on the receipt! NO WAY TO VERIFY THAT ANYTHING WAS DONATED. Tried telling me that no one would give a dime for a Weider Pro 9735 Gym or for an all-metal construction (old-time, locking teacher's) desk that isn't even made anymore because it's too costly... 5. The list of the items sold at auction WAS A JOKE! Items costing hundreds of dollars listed as selling for $10 (five times), $20, or $30. Only a couple of items out of over a dozen 'sold' for more than that and it was still no where near value! 6. Missing items - in order to acheive their objective, ITEMS WERE MISSING FROM THE CONSIGNMENT ALTOGETHER! Completely unaccounted for... I called them and was told that "they weren't fit to sell", yet they were perfectly acceptable when previewed by their 'frontman' and as seen by the guys who did the pick-up. A chair and ottoman in particular were in immaculate condition, yet those items as well as a sofa and an end-table all 'went missing'. How do you lose a complete living room set?!!! 7. I told them that I has a couple of parts for the items that had sold to give to the 'buyers'. I was told that I could drop them off; that no information on the buyers would be given. In other words, NO WAY TO VERIFY WHAT THE ITEM (MAY) HAVE ACTUALLY SOLD FOR. 8. I repeatedly called their office to talk to a "principal" concerning what had transpired. NO CALLS WERE EVER RETURNED, nor would they put me through to the owner. He is listed on the Corporate Commissions web-site to be Erik Hoyer, Managing Partner of EJ's Auction and Consignment, LLC. The one man who I did speak with subsequently, their 'frontman', Terry, laughed at me and said, "It was all in keeping with the contract." He further stated that he would talk to the Facility Manager to see if they would waive the "pick-up fee" so that I might at least see a couple of hundred dollars on the deal. That didn't happen either. Bottom line - these guys took hundreds of dollars worth of my possessions (amounting to thousands) and I DIDN'T SEE A DIME! Their "Settlement" after their 35% commission and "lot fees" didn't even quite come up to the amount they were charging me to "pick-up" the items... as if I were lucky not to get a bill from them for the difference. I'd suggest you read the reviews posted on the "Better Business Bureau" web-site to see just how bad these guys are...
