I have been bidding online and at autions for years. I have had good and bad experiences. Check everything out at this establishment! Items are apparently taken in bulk and are not checked or owner certified as being operational. I have been to auctions that guarantee items like tools are in good working order. Or they stand by their descriptions. Not the case here. Their descriptions are not to be trusted. Their description: In good used condition with minimal wear. Tested and appears to work. There were three buttons on this machine. One for the brush, one for the pump and one for the vaccuum. 2 of the three didn't work and the vaccuum had bad suction. Item was not in working order and was missing parts like brushes and brush motor and showed signs of major wear and was not in working order. Beware bidding online without fully checking out the items. Office response was sorry it is as is and apparently they do not stand behind their descriptions. read more

Back in May, I felw out to Arizona to help my grandfather downsize his home as we were moving him to an independent/assisted living facility in Northern California (close to family). Part of that process was finding a company to consign/auction his furniture and other items that would not be making the move. EJ's was referred to us by a realtor that we ended up not using to list and sell his home (she was out of her depth). But sadly my grandfather and uncle had already got into contract with EJ's before i arrived in town. I wish they would have read the reviews like the one I am currently writing. The biggest challenges with EJ: - POOR COMMUNICATION - FAILURE TO MEET EXPECTATIONS We were told that my grandfathers estate should attract several thousands of dollars in auction/consignment and that his dining room set would alone claim at least a few thousand. Shawn lead my grandfather to believe that he would get back a minimum of $10,000 on the entire estate and possibly as much as $30,000. He also explained that within a few days of signing the contract we'd be contacted about arranging the pick up on items. From then, about a month later they would be cataloged & set for auction. After all auctions, we'd recieve a break down and check. What ACTUALLY HAPPENDED was they failed to contact us within a few days and I had to call to find out when we'd be scheduled. Once scheduled I received 3 calls the day of pick up to ask for the code at the door. Even after I had previoused texted the info to Shawn our main point of contact. (not only poor communication to clients but also internally). Once the items were picked up I followed up with Shawn numberous times to which I would get no reply or he would look into it with no follow up. After about 2+ months post pick up and several calls I was told that our lot had not been processed and was accidently placed behind other lots that came after but not to be worried they would get processed in the next few weeks. Here were are now in September and we received 2 checks from EJ's for the auctions totaling roughly $1600 ... that dining room set that we thought would bring a few bucks... well they apparently acutioned that off for $25.00 Other problems with EJ's they have a clause that states that they can tack on a "Broker Fee" to any auction item and that is not park of the commission we split. They also don't have to disclose what items and if a brokers fee was attached to the seller. If you are moving or just looking for an estate auction company. I'd try just about any other company before I'd use these people. read more

I love Ejs! There are so many treasures all the time. The experience is easy and addicting. You get to bid out of the comfort of your own home. The website and process is extremely user friendly. When you win an item you go to their location, usually the next day. EVERYONE who works there is SO nice. They truly do care about the customer and everyone seems to be happy to work there. My wife and I have been to four auctions at EJ's, our first three experiences were good which is why we kept coming back. This weekend however we did not enjoy the same level of satisfaction. We bid on a washer and dryer online, and we watched the auction closely to ensure that we were active when this lot went to bid. We bid against an on site bidder and won the bid. The auctioneer struck the hammer and we were notified that we won the lot, this also was reflected in our account of which I took a photo for reference. When we arrived back at EJ's to claim our won lots I was disappointed to see that our bidder number was not on the lot tag, it was in fact the onsite bidders number. I found the floor manager, notified him of the issue and showed him the photo that clearly showed we won the lot and the bid; this was fully 3 hours after the lot was bid on. The floor manager couldn't have been less concerned and stated that the auctioneer has the option to "re-open" the bidding if he desires. When I stood firm as to their system still reflected that I won the bid and that I requested that he review the video feed to prove or disprove that I won the bid he stated that the video didn't have voice so it wouldn't be of any use. Really, really disappointed in the manner in which EJ's conducted themselves. Not that we didn't get the lot (that alone was disappointing) but very much in that the staff couldn't have cared less of their less than acceptable business practice. read more

I had a similar experience to the one written by Eric M. I made online bids SEVERAL days prior to the auction day. It is customary and does not state otherwise on EJ's website, that the maximum bid goes to the first bidder and that the 'in person bidder' has to beat that. As it is EJ's is giving the "in person bidder" the option to match the online bidders and take it. When I called and disputed this I was simply told it was because they were there and could pay cash. That is BS, they can pay with a card and as it is, they charge 5% more for the online bidders who have to pick up that day and can also pay cash. When I voiced my complaints I was told "I cannnot help you and I am not going to argue with you, nor am I going to let you have it." I used to be a very regular customer with these people but as I can see thay have no respect for regular customers and I am not sure if they have any respect for any customers. I would stay away from they people if this is what is being written about, then it is just a small fraction of what is going on. The last time I attended in person there were several things that they did that were very NON customer friendly, in fact have not been back for that very reason. If you consign with EJ's, SELLER BEWARE!! Despite reading the contract carefully and asking questions about their commission structure, I still had a major disappointment/surprise when I received my check for the items I had consigned. For example: an item sold for $225, and the stated percent of commission was 35%, which would have been $78.75. But NO, I was told (after waiting a month for the check) that they are taking $96.25, because they figure 50% on the "first $50" of the sales price, and so forth....THAT is a rip-off in my book....and NOT one they disclosed. read more

Long term customer and buyer here. Items are hit and miss, but that is part of the auction industry. Employee turnover and customer service seem to be a big problem. The main reason may be the older blond lady who works at the cash register. She likes to boss people around. I'm 72 and have a couple of work related injuries, so when I get to my physical limits, I ask politely for a hand. Just like I'll give a hand to anyone needing help. But not when the blond fury is around Last weekend, she was watching me like a hawk to make sure none of their employees would help me with a big item. Maybe she was on her time of the month. Won my first auction at EJ's this weekend. 2 lots. Only one lot was there - the other one had walked out the door with another customer!!!! There is absolutely no checks and balance system at this auction house. The office manager Naomi gave us a very weak excuse... "we sell 3000 items a week". If that's the case - they should be very well versed in how to handle an auction pick up! We were told that people put other items in their winning boxes and just walk out with them!!! I was extremely disappointed, not only because I did not get the item I bid on and won due to lack of business sense, but I am disappointed that J Levine's would be associated with a shoddy operation like this. I have purchased many items at the Scottsdale auction. Levine's is top notch, first class, organized and efficient. All of this things EJ's is not. Josh Levine....you should be ashamed!! read more

I would never choose this way to sell my items again! I was sold a bill of goods by the appraiser who told me my primitive antiques would sell much better at the Glendale location (EJs). Low, low prices received on the furniture, and I haven't even received catalog lists for the ton of glass, china and other household items. In addition, although I packed my items carefully, when they came for pickup, they repacked much of it at a $125/hour, and I incurred an $375 shipping charge for just across town, PLUS $1/lot for transportation!!! Really?? They made the decision where these items would sell best, then charge me? I'm just sick over this. Thank God I didn't let the appraiser talk me into letting him take my antique salt collection and Handel lamp!! People, Craig's List is a much better option to get the best value for your items!! Horrible, pathetic, and dishonest. If you go into this place and you are expecting a certain amount, make sure you create a legal agreement for the lowest price you want them to sell your your item for. They turned a $10,000+ item, into a $50 bust for us, while upfront, they shook our hand and guaranteed, "No, no, no, it won't go at $900." They will lie and kanive you into giving them your item, and won't call you to at least say, "Not going so good." Don't trust, if you do take a chance, MAKE SURE TI CREATE A LEGAL AGREEMENT. I'm just into the 1st stage of using EJ's, but if the rest of the experience goes as well as it did today, I'm sold on these guys! We had 4 great guys, Angel, John, Robert and Shane, that came out to pack up my folks stuff. They were amazing! They worked hard all day and got it all done without any problems. Also, Eric came out not once, but twice to estimate what we had to action off. He has a good eye on what things will be interesting to people and we are excited to see how everything turns out. DO NOT IGNORE THE REVIEWS!! This place is absolutely awful! I wish I could give them 0 stars. I had several large furniture items that I had appraised, but was unable to sell at a garage sale and I was moving and needed them gone. I took them to EJ's and was assured they would get close to the valued price. After waiting over 60 days for my checks (my items were sold at different auctions because they lost some of my lot) I received pennies on the hundreds of dollars. A $1,300.00 desk was sold for $35.00, a $500.00 cabinet was sold for $10.00. Also they take fees out on top of their 40% commission. So be well aware of that as well. DO NOT GO HERE AND DO NOT TAKE YOUR VALUABLE ITEMS HERE!!!! read more

Bought items and also sold items here. Great service on both sides. Nothing is too big or too small for these guys. Give them a call if you have to liquidate an estate or just sell a few items to make room in your house. I changed out my bedroom style and bought new furniture from Ejs and then sold my old set there After I got my check for selling my furniture the whole thing only cost me a few hundred dollars compared to buying new and donating my old things. I want to start by saying the only pleasant part of the whole EJ experience were the 2 men that loaded the truck. They were friendly, helpful and all around good guys! EJs sold my moms stuff way below market price. We sent Antiques, some over 100 years old, that sold for no more than 20-30 bucks each and I know without a doubt that Goodwill would have charged more! They were disorganized with there information and never offered a straight answer. DONT LET THEM PICK UP! They charged about $500 and that is about all we got from the auction, we broke even but they made their money!! I don't think they market at all either! read more

I liquidated a large household with EJ's. If you have high dollar valuables such as jewelry, coins, art, etc. I would not auction them, or at least not with this company. I was very unhappy with the auction price for these items. Other items the auction price was fine, but for valuables I would not do this again. I basically felt ripped off in this area. Additionally, your items are not sold all at one time, so you have to keep track of what was auctioned and when. You better make a list of what you sent for auction and the condition! I've also been chasing them for over a month now to receive final payment and they are basically not responding. Very frustrating that I have to spend my time following up!!! read more

I have been around auctions since I was 6 years old - my uncle owned one and my mom worked at it. NEVER, have I had treatment like I had on Saturday, December 31. I was bidding on an item, and the "spotter" noted me bidding and my bid went up on the board. This auction house takes bids both live from the floor, and on-line bids. MY BID WAS ON THE BOARD. The gavel went down. SOLD! I started to pull my card with bidder number on it out of my pocket to show the auctioneer and he called out a DIFFERENT bidder number - one from the internet - and proceeded immediately to the next item. I went over to talk to the spotter and he confirmed that he had recognized my bid and , "had no idea" why the auctioneer recognized the internet bidder instead of me. He went on to say their was 'nothing we can do at this time about it." In my past experience with auctions, if there was a valid dispute, the auctioneer always reopened the bidding between the two disputed bidders and let them have a bidding war to decide who the winner would be. EJ's apparently prefers to loose money for their seller, and themselves, by not doing this. Or there could be another reason. I will find other places to spend my money. read more

GROSSLY NEGLIGENT AND INCOMPETENT was my experience with them in the way they handled my property. I was so traumatized by the reprehensible handling of my parent's estate by EJ's in 2015 that I couldn't even bear to post a review. Having accidentally come across a social media comment about EJ's, it brought all that horror back in a flash. All the negatives that you have seen posted by others should not be taken lightly. Please believe them and do your own research. So many people with the same complaints can't be wrong. My father was a decorated WWII veteran and I consigned some of his memorabilia, much of which had provenance, and they LOST it. I saw them put up for auction obviously valuable antiques worth several hundreds of dollars in a box lot with an asking price of $10. One item that was a vintage set was broken up and sold in parts, achieving much lower bid amounts. Many of my items that they auctioned off never even appeared on my inventory list and I had to ask them where it went. After the owner's wife actually yelled at me on the phone to "stop telling us how to do our business" they corrected my inventory. How many other people did not check their inventory I wonder. The inventory errors were rampant. Other people's items appeared on my inventory list and some of my items appeared on other people's list. Some of my things never appeared in their auction at all and they claim they never received it, even though I was there and saw it loaded on their truck when they picked up my parent's property. Before consigning I was told they had a staff of "experts" who would assess my items and would then send the more valuable ones to their sister company J Levines and the not-so valuable items to EJ's. This did not appear to happen. I later came across a "help wanted" ad placed by EJ's seeking "pickers" who could sort through consignments and could get their jobs done quickly, with "knowledge of antiques a plus." No experience in antiques required, just "a plus" yet I was assured their people were experienced in evaluating antiques & collectibles. Please do your research on these people and see what you find. It's startling. If you do not know what to do with the things you or your loved ones have, sell them yourself or donate them to a charity. I will live in regret the rest of my life for allowing the desecration of the things my parents left behind after their passing. This company and it's owners acted like predators with regard to my and my parents' personal effects. I have copies evidencing everything I have stated. Please be vigilant. read more

I used J Levine for an auction two years ago, they said they would sell the valuable items in their Scottsdale location, instead everything sold at the EJ's location. They told us that they had people who knew the value of everything and would sort it accordingly. None of this was true. We saw the results of one of the auctions that our items were in and saw how they were mismanaged and called to stop anything else from being sold at another auction. We were told that EVERYTHING else had already sold the previous week without our knowledge and everything was GONE. So many priceless items sold for nothing. I feel completely ripped off especially when I just learned that I rug I almost let them auction off (that they said they took to a rug dealer and that it had no value ) just sold for $4000.00 and was a Sarouk Persian rug. I'm sick because I threw out another rug also supposedly worth nothing that was similar to the one that just sold. Also, they sold my diamond so quickly, without really encouraging other bidders, that I question whether they actually had someone buy it " internally" so that they themselves could resell it for what it was really worth. Also, I was told they were knowledgeable about the value of my items and would sell them accordingly BUT instead very expensive items were placed in boxes with worthless items and the whole box sold for $5 or $10. Again, I'm sick and I'm not the only person I know who was ripped off by them. Unfortunately, the two year statue of limitations prevents me from suing them over this rug issue. I would never recommend them if you're looking to sell your items. Ever. read more

This is definitely a buyer beware establishment. Even if you don't bid on an item but their computer shows you did, you are forced to pay. Even if you show them your bid history that indicates you did not bid, you are forced to pay. The slack jawed yokels who run this place likely all have a record. They will all change their rules on the fly to make sure they take your money. read more

My experience with EJ's has been great. I enjoy looking through their selection of items each week, and usually can find a few lots to bid on. I feel that the prices end up being reasonable, even after the buyer's premium is added. The staff is knowledgable and helpful when I ask questions. Their bidding process is simple, and their invoices are clear, and easy to pay. While I am usually an internet bidder because I live out of state, I am hoping to attend one of their live auctions soon. I look forward to finding more treasures at EJ's. read more
