We put our 4 year old in the martial arts course with Mr John and I don't know if you've ever seen a bunch of 4-5 year olds take direction, but it's like herding cats and Mr John is an expert. His patience and understanding along with his methods are absolutely incredible to watch. The price we paid is incomparable to the lessons my son learned, but also SUCH a steal to be honest. The only reason we're even leaving the class is because we're moving further than I can drive every weekend. My daughter has been taking martial arts classes here for the last 6 months, and we've had a great experience watching her develop. We decided to enroll our four-year-old son in the program as well, and everything went smoothly during that process. Arrangement was month-to-month, price is fair, and the facility and program came highly recommended from other professionals in the area that I trust deeply. As the weeks have passed bringing my kids to class, I pivoted from LA fitness, and my core focus on adult basketball league and hoopin, and decided to sign up for personal boxing classes. After a couple of classes in, I'm slowly improving at the footwork and pivoting/shifting weight, and I'm feeling more confident.. I run a large and successful organization, which includes a sales team that's highly focused on customer service and execution... I am honestly shocked at the good reviews. My review is based on as a parent, as a law enforcement officer of 15 years, retired Marine Corps Officer, with a black belt in Hwa Rang Do and purple belt in Jiu Jitsu, with over 20 years experience in martial arts. We were looking for an after care program with Martial Arts for my young child. We had previous experience with The One Taekwondo on Bouquet Canyon, which in my opinion is the best technical, disciplined, and loving martial arts / daycare in Santa Clarita. However The One TKD doesn't offer pick up at my youngest son's current school, so we wanted to find another program. We tried their demo class for my child, and it was atrocious. The teachers had zero command presence. The kids were running all over them, ignoring everything the teachers asked. Kids were rolling around, throwing objects, zero disciple, which I have never seen at The One TKD (yet they have three times as many students). I then walked around and observed their boxing, Muay Thai, and BJJ classes. I was shocked at how little technique was being taught. There was practically zero technical skills being taught, which any martial artist knows is #1 and paramout to be taught (for example proper foot placement, pivot points on rotations, how and where to make proper contact with a punch or kick to not cause injury). It appeared their instructors had zero real world experience in martial arts, and if they claim they did, I would have to call BS. Then they gave us the tour and told us improper information, neglecting to say they only offer yearly contracts, which most people are hesitant about because in today's economy, no one knows how or where they will be in a year from now. Then the owner spoke to us and right off the bat he came off as the most pompous egotistical ass hat I have ever met. He bragged left and right about himself, made claims I verified were false, and was a complete turn off. In conclusion the facility is nice, despite lack of parking. However I have zero faith or trust in their ability to teach martial arts, nor monitor and keep my child safe. Lastly the owner has zero customer service and forgets customer service is #1. There are much better schools in SCV (for example The One TKD) and I would not give this place one cent of your hard earned money, and especially would not trust them with the safety of my children. read more

When I walked into Ekata Training Center a month and three weeks ago, I didn't have any expectations. I was working on an assignment for graduate school and thought I'd stop by and see if someone would be willing to talk to me and answer some questions about business Ethics. They looked like they were busy having a meeting but Corry broke from the group to welcome me with a friendly smile and took the time to give me a tour. The facility was very clean. I was blown away to learn that the school was in the lineage of Bruce Lee, Corry was third generation Bruce Lee taught, and he introduced me to Sifu Ed who studied Jeet Kune Do with an original Bruce Lee student named Jerry Poteet. Corry invited me in to try a free class the next day, and Sifu Ed said he'd be free to talk to me if I came early. When I came early the next day, coach Shaka let me know Sifu Ed went home sick, and suggested I take Tai Chi while I waited for Corry's Jeet Kune Do class. The Tai Chi instructor was very kind, and I really enjoyed it. After that, I had a lot of fun in the Jeet Kune Do class, and everybody there was very friendly and welcoming. Then as I was walking out of Jeet Kune Do class, I was greeted by Conner Bean who kindly invited me to stick around and try his Kali Class, and that was fun as well. I thought I'd take a chance and just show up two days later to see if I could catch Sifu Ed to ask him some questions about Business Ethics. Although he was on a zoom call with Sifu JoAnn and several parents, he took the time to break from it and answer my questions in his office. Sifu Ed gave a great answer to the question "what does duty mean to you...", emphasized being generous with wealth, and when I asked him about what type of ethical business policies they practiced, he emailed me a four page attachment that contained Ekata Training Center's Mission Statement: "Our mission is to fuse ancient tradition with science and technology. We hope to empower and liberate our members through physical expression, thus opening the gateway to mental and spiritual health." and core values: "INTEGRITY, DISCIPLINE, AUTHENTICIY, ACCOUNTABILITY, ALIGNMENT, PROFESSIONALISM, PATIENCE, SERVICE, EXCELLENCE, GENEROSITY, CONTEMPLATION/MINDFULNESS." After seeing that these core values align with who I want to be and what I want to work on, I decided to try it out and sign up for the unlimited program and immerse myself for at least thirty days and study the environment, the people, and processes. I am not a professional fighter, nor do I have aspirations of being one, and I don't have enough experience in the martial arts to say what makes a good or bad martial arts instructor. I was just open to learning. So far, for me, Ekata Training Center is fulfilling their mission. I feel empowered, liberated, physically expressed, and mentally and spiritually healthier since I started. Why? Maybe it's the amazing way that Sensei Harte breaks down Brazilian jiu-jitsu moves that doesn't seem intimidating, even for the beginner, with encouraging energy and a smile on his and his assistants' faces that makes you believe that you could get it if you tried again. Or Coach Parish, who teaches Thai Kickboxing with patience, attention to detail, and takes the time to correct and encourage you like he was your longtime friend even when it's the first time he meets you. Or Rick, who teaches RickFit and Yoga. He's knowledgeable, patient, wise, encouraging, and sensitive to your physical strengths and weaknesses, never pushing you too hard, but at the same time, doesn't let you slack. Or Conner Bean's Kali class, where he teaches us to whip sticks around in both hands in ways, I never thought possible. He's incredibly talented and a great teacher. Or it could be the awesomeness of Sifu Joann, who is an absolute beast in the most elegant and graceful way possible. When she teaches us how to block, kick, move, and punch with controlled power and precision in Savate, an exhilarating French Kickboxing sport. It's a whole lot of fun and quite a workout. I think we may even get a little smarter after every class because it's like we catch a bit of the genius beyond the movement by osmosis. You have to see it, to believe it. Or it could be weekly meditation with Sifu Ed, who gives us insight and wisdom to reflect on as we quiet our minds from the chaos of a busy life and become present, intentionally mindful in the moments we share with the group in silence. Sifu Ed doesn't pretend to be perfect and have everything all together. He is transparent about his past and current struggles that motivate his actions, practices, and will for continuous improvement. All, in all, from the moment you walk through the doors, whether you receive a warm welcome from LeAnne at the front desk, a smile and hello from Shane, Angie, and Miranda, or the many other great people in the Ekata Community, it's a great place to be! read more

Our daughter attended the after school program at Ekata from 2021-2022. Despite this being a post COVID pandemic chaotic time period the staff did an amazing job tending to the children. Sadly in a very short time period all the great staff decided to quit. Staff turnover rate was very high. Unfortunately this place seemed to be a very toxic/hostile work environment for the staff. The owners were hands on in the day to day operations. Edward Monaghan was a bully. He constantly bullied the staff in front of everyone and he also bullied the parents and kids. The owner is unprofessional and pompous. I know this because he bullied me and my husband publicly right in the waiting area lobby. It's an unsafe environment for the children especially when the staff turnover rate was extremely high and they made the children share bathrooms/showers/lockers room with all the adults that come in to exercise! Security was very lax and lousy. All the daycare doors were unlocked at all times so anyone can come in to grab their children. Highly not recommended if you value your children's safety, security, and sanity. read more

Love this place! Only gym I've seen with a meditation space! A few years ago I started going to the gym and part of the program involved meeting with a nutritionist. Their nutritionist helped me identify a gut issue that was affecting my overall well-being not just my weight issues, she also referred me a doctor that has helped me heal. I will be forever grateful!! I took time off from the gym to get my gut back on track but while I was going I loved the class selections Ekata offered; meditation, martial arts, boxing, dance, yoga and more. I found Ekata almost a year ago and absolutely love going there. The space is amazing with many different training rooms and a full gym. I've been training here a little over a month now. I really like coming here. The instructors are knowledgeable, professional, polite, and take time to make sure students understand what they are being taught. The instructors are also patient making sure students practice correct form/body mechanics when punching or kicking. The facility is clean and offers a variety of martial arts classes but also has fitness classes and a gym. I've been coming here for 5 years and I couldn't recommend it more! Sifu ed has done a great job instilling great principles and morals such as mindfulness, respect, and discipline. This has created a positive environment where everyone seems to get along, respect each other, and are there to help one another, very rare to find this at martial arts studios. Because of this it is very easy to learn quickly while also being challenged enough to grow. Also great to learn traditional Jeet Kun Do from one of the closest sources to Bruce Lee himself, as Sifu Ed has learned from people who trained directly with Bruce and it shows in his teachings! I've been training in Martial Arts on and off for about 25 years. I have to say this is by far the best place to train I have ever been in. Especially in Santa Clarita, there appear to be a Tae Kwon Do school on every corner. I am all for people learning the martial arts and have no problem with this. But go in and check out any of those school, then come to Ekata as see the facilities and what they have to offer and you will left to the same conclusion as I came to. It's a no-brainier really. The facilities are incredible. Top instructors in each art come here to teach each week from all over the LA area. Lots of fitness classes, a full gym and more! It's really about your whole life and lifestyle, rather than "just another Karate school" I'm really only giving you the tip of the iceberg. Beautiful facility, friendly knowledgeable staff, an oasis to get grounded physically and mentally. I love their Savate (french kickboxing) class for a martial art with grace and power. All the martial art classes offer a good workout that keeps me from getting bored. I'm excited to try Hip Hop and Fencing classes as well. The general workout area is open with views of the trees and it's never crowded. The meditation room is a great way for you to reconnect with yourself. Gym showers are usually something you want to avoid but Ekata's showers make me want to work out just so I can shower there! Last but not least, they have yummy gluten free ice cream and healthy snacks/tea. Definitely a different kind of gym filled with so many ways to get a good workout, it's worth checking out. read more

I have so much to say about Ekata! There is something for EVERYONE of all shapes, sizes, ages etc...I'm taking Savate and after a short time it has changed my life! The facility is gorgeous, super clean bathrooms, up to date equipment, it's very Zen and welcoming. You get so much with the standard fee...including ZUMBA which is taught by the amazing Heather Evans!! Top of the line...you cannot get a better Zumba instructor or workout. I lost 60 lbs just from doing Zumba and that has allowed me to transition to Savate. Sifu Joanne and Sifu Ed are the BEST at what they do!! They are true teachers and masters of their craft. Gloves/belt advancement is taken very seriously. I CANNOT recommend this place more. I don't have kids, however Ekata is so good for kids and families. There are kids of all ages and to see the discipline and maturity that they are taught is inspiring. We had a 12 year old conduct our warmup in Savate!! How amazing is that?!? They also have a beautiful meditation room after which is a welcome after a stressful day of work. Please check out this amazing facility!! read more
