Instead, the owner--"Master" Stash--was unbelievably rude about it. As a woman, I expected to be treated with the same respect he would give a man, but he dismissed everything I said and even made a comment implying that my kids "needed a male figure." That was completely inappropriate and uncalled for. It's not his place to make personal judgments about my family. Another red flag was when they pressured us into signing up for uniforms that cost around $800, only to then hand us a "coupon." Looking back, this should have been a clear sign of the kind of business they run. At this point, I deeply regret signing any contract with them. The whole experience feels like a scam, and the disrespect from the owner was the final straw. After the first one-on-one session, the staff told me my daughter was doing well and encouraged me to sign up for their October promotion that would reduce the initiation cost if I signed up immediately instead of using the full trial period. The receptionist explained that the standard initiation fee was $599.99, but with the promotion, it would drop to $399.99 if I chose the one-year plan at $200 per month. We also discussed the possibility of reducing the monthly fee, and he offered a $100 per month rate if I committed to a 24-month plan with a $299.99 initiation fee. He mentioned that once we reached black belt level, the monthly fee could increase to around $300-$350. My wife and I decided to go with the one-year agreement since we were unsure if our daughter would like Tae Kwon Do long-term. We asked if they could match the lower $299 initiation fee offered with the two-year plan for our one-year contract. They agreed, and we proceeded with the $200 per month plan. Before signing, I requested a copy of the agreement, but the receptionist said it could only be emailed after I signed. I was allowed to take a photo of the contract terms, which I later used to review the details with ChatGPT. Nowhere in the agreement did it mention additional costs for belt advancements. The next day, a friend mentioned that other Tae Kwon Do schools often charge for each belt level. While I understand that running a business comes with costs, I believe a family-oriented business like this should be transparent from the beginning when parents are signing up. The extra cost wouldn't have been an issue if it had been disclosed upfront. The staff and instructors were courteous and professional. The instructor who worked with my daughter during the trial session was outstanding, and I would give him a five-star rating for his patience and teaching style. The receptionist was friendly and helpful throughout the process; I would rate him four stars, as he is clearly a natural salesperson. I'm not upset with the employees themselves, as they were simply following the instructions given by the owner. However, the sales approach directed by the owner left me feeling misled. I ultimately chose to cancel my contract within the two-week grace period, as I felt it was important for me to work with a school that values transparency from the start. Summary of Costs: * Total Yearly Cost: $200 per month for 12 months, totaling $2,400. * Initiation Fee: Reduced to $299 (from the standard $399.99) for signing up immediately. I don't understand why this program uses nun chucks, a foam baton and other "weapons" For training? Maybe that's the ancient art form, but we aren't in ancient times. That's considered assault with a deadly weapon now, LOL Also, i feel like they have too many students per class and not enough instructors. Some times they have one instructor teaching a class of over 30 kids. Some times kids barely fit in the room and have to train like sardines. Side note: They might have another instructor but he/ she will be sitting at the desk on their phone or doing something on the computer. Master Ian is so disrespectful, i shouldn't even refer to him as "master" You could tell he doesn't like being there. The program teaches to be respectful but when my son got his belt and bowed to Ian, Ian just turned and did not return the bow ( i have video) but i rather not upload to stay anonymous. That gesture by Ian reminded me of General Eisenhower not saluting his Japanese counter part - and we all know why that happened. I know the severity of general Eisenhower's situation is too much comparison to this, I'm only trying to emphasize you salute or bow to the ppl you respect, and Ian did not do that to my son. My son recently turned 4 and I wanted to sign him up for a martial arts class. I wanted to try at least 2 or 3 studios to see if he liked it. We tried our first place this week and the teaching style was so authoritarian and hard core disciplinary that it scared my son; he literally didn't want to go back or continue with martial arts. The teaching style was also poor- they expected him to do things that he had never been taught and he was mostly lost in the lessons. So before giving up completely, I convinced him to try one more place. I spoke to Robert, the owner and chief instructor at Gold Metal Martial Arts and I immediately was impressed with his demeanor as well as the way he explained the children's (little tigers) program. Once we tried our first lesson at Gold Metal Martial Arts I knew this was the right fit for us! The lessons were fun (they did obstacle courses, rotated often, used nunchucks) and the teachers were GREAT. The discipline was still present, but in a more appropriate way for the age group present. My son loved it and he was treated kindly and made to feel very special. We definitely found our home here. I would recommend to any parent!!! read more

About 4 months ago our family set out to find a martial arts school for my son. This is a pretty big decision so we did our homework. We checked out 3-4 studios and did trial classes at two of them. In the end, we let our 11 yr old decide which one he felt most comfortable at. He decided on Gold Medal and he's been loving it ever since. I sit and watch 2 x week. The instructors always have a great physical workout for them, but more importantly 'to me' they always include lessons on everyday life skills. Whether that is honesty, accountability, self esteem, etc. I appreciate these lessons and it's great reinforcement to what we try to teach at home. read more

Highly recommended TKD studio - once you walk in, you will not want to walk out. We have had a great experience for the 3 years that my child has been a student here. The training is leading class - Master Gast, the owner and team leader, is a visionary, an extremely energetic young man who has very ambitious growth goals for his studio. He has pulled together a team of amazing instructors and keeps developing them along with his students. As a parent, there are a few things that I like on top of the technical skills that my daughter is learning. The team develops great athletes, but equally important are the values they teach and reinforce to develop good people. I also like that the studio has a family feel to it - instructors and seasoned TKD parents alike embrace the new students and make them feel at home. Warning! Do not sign a contract with this establishment!.. Regardless of any Family Circumstances or Misfortunes comes up, with this establishment a contract is a contract, and they will not break it. My son has been with ATA for 2 years now for what he was going through I thought that being in a Martial Arts class was the right thing for him to help with his shyness, and self-confidence. My son struggled with the classes; it was very hard for him Emotionally, Physically, & Mentally. We have been seeing a few Doctors 1 for his foot fracture, the other Neurologist for his severe Migraines, now to add to his list a psychiatrist, and a Counselor. All these Doctors say that our son needs to be in a low stress environment (a stress clinic) suggested yoga, acupuncture etc., and to stop taking Martial Arts.., to top it off our sons foot is not mending due to the severe stress he is going through. He is only just 10 years old! I have kept Sir Master Gast in the constant loop on what's going on with our son providing Doctors notes and his progress. We were granted an "Extension" of our contract but still could not break it. I was just recently told in short terms that we cannot break the contract. It is what it is. You will still be charged monthly even if you cannot attend.... Understandably, I get you're a business, But sometimes the unexpected does happen. We are talking of a child here, and a child that is going through so much in his young life. This establishment was provided with medical notes; this is a true legit matter. Life happens, things happen. Situations come up that are completely out of your control. Who asks for their child to go under such great difficulty at a young age?? and to add to it sorry but you still have to attend Martial Arts class even though your foot has not yet 100% healed, or you not mentally capable to do so. Just adds more to your son's emotional trauma list. It's truly a shame that they don't care of my son's mental Illness, Physical, & Emotional well-being and it's really all about the money for you.... Who cares right? My step son has been a member of Gold Medal Martial Arts for the last two years. His mother signed him up & was paying the fees. My husband and myself would pay for weapons & other things he needed that were in addition to monthly fees. All of a sudden we realized that Gold Medal Martial Arts had been charging us for the almost $200 monthly tuition fees for months. We couldn't understand how this was possible since we'd never ok'd any of these charges or given anyone permission to save our credit card or keep it on file. When my husband went in and spoke directly to Master Gast he was unapologetic and offered no solution. His only concern was how would he be paid moving forward. I'd like to add that my stepsons mother was diagnosed with Leukemia last year & recently asked for a two month hold on the membership & was flat out denied (only to find out later that Master Gasts billing company does offer a hold on memberships). My stepsons mother posted a review on here, but somehow Master Gast was able to complain & get it removed. You can see her review on Yelp & Google reviews (she's the one with Cancer). I wasn't going to post anything because airing my private life is not my style BUT after Master Gast sent an email to my stepsons mother saying he'd grant her the two month hold ONLY after she did a few things in return (including removing all her negative reviews from social media) and also has been having his personal friends write positive reviews to try to bring up his score.....I felt it was my obligation to warn other parents of his fraudulent credit card charges and manipulative coercion tactics. I can't see how my step son or his mother could feel welcome or comfortable enough to go back after all is said and done. read more

Owner and Instructor Master Robert Gast offers a safe and fun environment for your child to learn the fundamentals of TaeKwonDo. He has an incredible staff of talented Instructors that can teach the high rank classes at a challenging level, offer knowledge and expertise during Leadership/Legacy classes, and yet able to have fun with the Tiny Tigers. Any martial arts program will take time and commitment, and it is a true testament to the skills of the instructors to be able to hold the interest of a child long enough for them to reach their Black Belt goals. My girls started this program roughly 4 yrs ago with the goal of reaching the Black Belt status. I am happy to say that with the guidance and training of the GMMA they have persevered. They not only have gotten their Black Belt, but they have gained so much more without even realizing it! Discipline, Respect, Integrity...these are all characteristics that any parent would want for their child and to see that being reinforced outside of their home (or by someone else other than their parents) is priceless! Not to mention Self Defense! I am a mother of three girls and nothing calms my nerves more then them being able to take care of themselves! But children learn by example so I ventured out and started kicking some butt in their Combat Fitness Classes! I normally do not review on yelp. However I felt I needed to inform parents how this establishment works. You sign a 1 year contract!! I signed my daughter up and the first few months were great. However she started not wanting to go anymore. We told her she started this and needed to stick with it. We eventually had to bribe her to go. The night before classes she would start crying and beg me to not make her go. I reached out to the team and they said she needs to be taught to finish what she started. Eventually I asked if she could move her up a class level. They agreed.That helped for approximately a week. After that she cried DURING classes. They didn't come up with any ideas except telling us we need to teach our child to finish what she started. Honor and accountability. I agree with that motto. However, it was becoming apparent after 3 months of taking her to class kicking and screaming it wasn't going to work. The last class I took her to she cried and begged me during class OUTLOUD to take her home. Parents around me were saying I should take her out. She was being disruptive. I had NO CHOICE but to leave early. We just decided to not return. I NEVER received one call asking how she was or acknowledging her absence. We paid for 6 months after that and she never went to a class. She was a student that was so obviously having issues and we were parents that were doing everything they recommended. We finally just had it and decided to not return. After that you would think they would check up on her and see what else can be done. After all we were basically told she is being disruptive and its best to leave the class. If I had stopped payments we would definitely of received calls. I believe an honorable institution would have made calls or emails to a student that hasn't returned to classes after such a hard time. We weren't complaining negative parents. We were parents trying to make this thing work. No honor here. Sorry to say. There are too many other martial arts establishments to choose from. Look around and do your research before signing with this one. In my emails to the owner I NEVER once asked for my money back. I realize I signed a contract. I just wanted to understand why no further help or acknowledgement of our obvious disappointment/absence was addressed. Customer satisfaction is not part of their deal I guess. If it was me I would have tried to reach out to the family and figured something out. As a matter of fact, he was very rude and abrasive in his response. My son was having trouble finding a sport that he enjoyed returning to week after week but the Tiger program that Gold Medal Martial Arts has set up for the kids is truly magnetic! Gold Medal Martial Arts has really made a difference in my son's life. He started out in the Tiny Tigers class and progressed into the Martial Arts Kids class. He looks forward to class everyday and absolutely enjoys his time there learning forms, sparring, weapons and general life values. When he first started teaching (about) 9 months ago, he was very young in his teaching career and the classes were not as disciplined. Now, Mr. O'Neal has really grown into his teacher role and is very charismatic, strict, disciplined and structured in his approach to teaching. The kids respect and look up to him (and there's a little dash of fear in there as well...=). The other teachers at the school are also great. Mr. Hill who was on hiatus for the past few months is back and was sorely missed. Master Gast is terrific and really sets the direction and vision for the school.
