Even now, they are still patient with me which is great because it allows me to break through my own social and physical barriers with no sense of pressure or direct/ indirect constant criticism. My experience at Ultra Jiu Jitsu Academy has changed my life for the better. Professor Dixon, Professor Pedro and Professor Skye are elite instructors. The coaches are approachable and love to teach as well. They all love what they do and it shows. Aside from the great coaches and professors, the training partners who attend are some of the most down to earth and nicest people I've come around. The environment is what you make it to be but competition and safety are always included. I personally use my training sessions as therapy and leave the stress of normal day living at the front door. All three of us have been taking Kung Fu, and my son who is 12 and I also take Kenpo Fighting Sticks. About a year ago Master Dave brought Krav Maga into the studio, and it is AWESOME. This is the Israeli combat/defense system taught to their army and defense forces. It's an unbelievable work out with lots of cardio, but very practical in terms of self defense. They offer a variety of martial arts, so you'll be able to find whatever you're looking for. Krav maga, kung fu for all ages and levels, shinkendo, "fight club", weapons training. I've taken many krav maga classes, one kung fu class, and many shinkendo classes. Their schedule is updated weekly and can be found online, so you'll always know what class is happening when. Master Dave (who I've had krav maga classes with) and Sensei Lynch (who I've had shinkendo with) are both incredibly respectable and respectful, friendly people and great teachers. Master Dave always explains the reasoning behind the movements you're learning and how they apply to a self-defense situation. Sensei Lynch offers LOADS of insightful history about samurai and Japanese swordsmanship. Both classes are a great work out. And even with all their experience and expertise, both teachers are still humble about it and love to see their students' progress. If you're interested I very much recommend taking one of their free classes to try it out and see how you like it. Unlike some places I've been to, you won't feel pressured about anything.

Everyone from the coaches to the students were super friendly and made me feel right at home. The instruction was awesome. The professor explained things clearly, with a ton of attention to detail, but still kept the class fun and easy to follow. We went into drilling the technique and I got a great workout in while I was there. There were kids' classes going on before the adult class, and the atmosphere was super positive great place for families or anyone just getting started in jiu-jitsu. Regardless of your religion this program is great for young kids and I highly recommended it. Today (May 2022) I updated it and felt the need to share here as well. There are so many's ways this Dojos helped my son. Now 8 and a green belt, karates helped him stay respectful and focused in most aspects of his life. That one random question led to private lessons and eventually being part of something way bigger than I expected. What started for me as a search to learn knife skills turned into a deep dive into arts like Silat, JKD, Muay Thai, and more. And it's not just about fighting--it's the technique, the philosophy, and even the history behind these arts that Sifu Glenn brings into every class. He's incredibly patient, always focused on making sure your technique is clean before speeding things up. One of the first lessons that stuck with me was "slow is smooth, smooth is fast"--something I heard back in the military, and was happy to see the familiar mantra being taught. Another thing I really respect--at the end of each session, he asks what stood out to you or what you learned. In the Army, we called that an after action review.
