I chose this gym because I wanted a place to train, in an environment of professionalism, maturity, respect, and generosity. And that's EXACTLY what I found here. All the Trainers here are highly knowledgeable and friendly; and the patrons are genuine and welcoming. Ekata is a family gym, where all ages are welcome; and when you join Ekata, you feel like you belong there, and the people treat you like family.
Ekata is the diamond in the ruff of all other gyms; the flower amongst the volcanic ashes.
Ekata has several great and highly unique features about it, that sets it far apart from other gyms:
The most unique feature is that this gym teaches a rare martial art created by Bruce Lee, called Jeet Kune Do. (And this is the only gym that has incorporated a belt system to monitor progress, within Jeet Kune Do.) The Masters (or Sifus) who teach Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, are direct student-descendants, of Bruce Lee himself. And when you come to Ekata to learn the art of Jeet Kune Do, you are also participating in the continuation of a legacy.
I am highly impressed with Ekata's trainers. And I'm an extremely picky person when it comes to leadership skills, personalities, course content... etc. And so far, each trainer has surpassed my expectations, and has continued to surprise me. They are well respected amongst the rest of the patrons. I am someone who holds the word 'Master' as sacred. For one to become a true Master in any field takes a very unique balance, of mind and body, that not many people can tap into, or find within themselves. Through my observations, I can confidently say that every single trainer, here at Ekata, has truly earned their title, as Sifu.
Another amazing thing about Ekata is how clean, (and orderly), this gym is. The gym equipment stays in as-new conditions. There's also this spray that patrons can use on the inside of their gloves (as it's also used to wipe down the used equipment at the end of every class); and my old stinky gloves smell like they're new again! And another thing Ekata has that most gyms lack is hand sanitizer inside the classrooms. Their bathrooms are amazing! They look like they belong in some secluded designer home on top of a hill with lots of mist and fog. And taking a shower is like going to your own little mini retreat. They also have lockers.
Everything at this gym represents family, prosperity, growth, and professionalism; through mannerisms, architecture, course material, and philosophy.
I'm training to join the Marines. And I am also a Buddhist. I could not have asked for a more perfect gym. (As they incorporate meditation within their Martial Arts training.) Whatever path you are on, learning the self defense techniques, and self discipline techniques, taught here at Ekata, can not only help save your life one day, or the life of a loved one; but it also can help you identify the middle ground in life; through the practice of mindfulness. When the mind is calm, the decisions you make in life are more healthier, and more meaningful. If you want to be a Master, in your own life, you need to train both your mind and body.
The thing that fascinates me most about this gym, however, are the children. Not only are the children learning self defense techniques, but they are also learning discipline, and respect, through the mindfulness training. As a family gym, Ekata takes child-care to the next level. High level professionals with certified child-care experience are what you get when you drop your child off for day care. Ekata goes out of it's way to enrich the experience that the children receive here. It's a great place for families to come to train.
In addition to all this greatness, Ekata also has nutritional counseling, an electronic body composition machine that measures a bunch of percentages, acupuncture, massage, physical therapy, music and math lessons; and also, in their meditation room, they have a genuine shrine that's part of a local Buddhist Temple network. You can read up on the tao in the lobby, and if you're really into it, you can request to partake in a very old ceremony, and basically be blessed by one of the tao masters from the temple. (I'm one of the first ones to partake in the ceremony, held at Ekata.) To witness and be a part of an ancient ritual is definitely not an everyday experience.
There's so much to Ekata, that all together makes for a truly rewarding experience. And although I must leave soon to join the Marines, I really hope people continue to experience what this place has to offer. I wish nothing but prosperity for Ekata. read more
