I came here on a Saturday with my wife for lunch. It was cramped inside and very noisy. Inside our chips was a dead roach, it was so disturbing we lost our apetite. We let our waiter know and he only said "sorry about that let me bring you new ones" . They must of thought we were crazy to get any other food from them. It must be roach infested if they had a dead roach in the chips. I don't even want to know how they're kitchen looks like. The only good thing about his place is one of waiters named aly or alex , Alice something like that, i can't seem to remember her name. I'm giving 2 stars because the food wasn't good, but it wasn't awful. The food lacked flavor and seasoning. The fajitas were overcooked to the point of burnt, but interestingly enough, the fajita cast iron it was served on wasn't hot. My daughter's burrito looked like someone chopped up a hamburger and put it in a tortilla. Speaking of tortillas, we only got 2 with the fajitas and the waitress never came back. My green enchiladas also had traditional enchilada sauce underneath it. Now, I'm a creature of habit and always order the same thing. I've never had it this way anywhere else. Even with all of that sauce, it still didn't taste like anything. So bland! Also, the gentleman cleaning the tables was throwing the plates into the bin. Me and my fiancé were looking for a nice restaurant and we definitely found it.. When I walked in the building was beautiful and the bathrooms were so nice and clean . The building I was told was new .. And the seats and booths were so cute! The waitress was nice and allowed us a great time to decide what we wanted.. It is not expensive even though it looked like it would be! I am a very picky eater even with the food I love and the enchiladas and tea were amazing! It was my family and I second time eating here on the way to Austin. The service I would rate 1-2 stars but the reason I rated three stars was because of the food. It was great food and they don't hold back on the amount! It was more than enough! We got there just before the lunch hour thank goodness because in a matter of minutes it was packed! Husband's carnitas were half burned. My combination plate was totally drenched in sauces. The tamale seems like it was decent. The green chicken enchilada had dried out chicken and ground beef in a burrito was unexpected and not very good. To top it off the margaritas were so filled with chunky ice we couldn't even drink them, more like eating our margarita. read more

Came in today for dinner and the service was so slow. To top it all off though, I found a hair in my food and asked for a replacement to go. We sat and waited for quite some time before deciding to just head home and have them dock it from our ticket since I was unable to eat it. When my husband went to pay the cashier fought him on it and told him there was no one in the back with short gray hair and that I had light hair. My hair is about 20-24" long and the hair I found was clearly gray and short. To even try to blame it on us was unacceptable. I loathe having to send things back at restaurants because I realize that it's an accident and I hate making people feel bad, but when someone tries to make me the guilty party when we are paying $50+ for our meal is unprofessional. We won't be going back here again. The customer may not always be right but in this scenario there was no reason to point blame back at the customer. I had this happen at Bella Sera in Fredericksburg several years ago and not only did they remove my meal from my ticket but they also threw in a free cheesecake to make up for it. I live within two blocks of this restaurant and may have eaten there my last time. Really bad service before and after food was served. I kept getting the look like "we are busy and this is all I can do" I got a chimichanga ....i ordered chalupas, my tea was never refilled and when I asked the waitress why she kept looking at me and not coming over to check on me, she starting talking to the guy who waited on the table next to us in spanish. Very rude staff!!! Didn't even offer to cut the price of the food that was wrong. read more

The restaurant is well maintained and very welcoming when you walk in. My wife ordered a combo plate and I got the pastor and napoles(cactus) plate. The combo plate was pretty typical Mexican restaurant food, but the Pastor/Napoles plate was amazing. Hands down the best Napoles I have ever had. This place is ok but never get takeout. The takeout portions are tiny. I just got a full order and a half order of nachos for takeout (5.49 vs 8.49) . The half order consisted of about 8 chips, 6 slices of jalapeño and 2 bites of beef, it was closer to 15% the amount of food in the full order. Also they charge $1.75 for chips with your takeout order whereas at el charro the chips are free. read more

Horrible. The food and service kept getting worse every time we went. The beef fajitas were tiny slivers of overcooked, tough meat and mostly gristle and fat. The staff is extremely rude, especially one man in particular. We will never eat there again. A friend was there recently and found chewed gum in his burrito!! They actually tried to just give him something else! Of course, he demanded his money back and said he'd never eat there again! What can I say! On National Margarita Day, we visited Johnson City and the El Agave Restaurant, hoping to taste a true Mexican tradition. Well, the service was slow and when the margaritas came, we were thoroughly disappointed.Whomever made the drinks needs to go back to bartender school, for they were very nearly disgusting. The top half the drink was pure ice, uncrushed, and the bottom half something that vaguely resembled tequila and mix. No added ingredients, such as agave, and certainly lacking in no-how when it came to blending a margarita. Needless to say, none of our drinks were finished. The food? Well, it was bland and overcooked. The chips and salsa were good, however, as was the decor - right out of old Mexico. Bottom line - I would not return and hope that those of you who do visit the El Agave in Johnson City, Texas, will experience something wholly different, a trip that will leave you with a lasting good memory. read more
