I ate supper here twice during a week long business trip. My first visit I ordered the fried chimichanga with beef tips. The meal came with refried beans, and a guac, sour cream and lettuce. Chips and salsa were also provided. The food was good, portions were adequate and the service was good too. The second time I visited I ordered the steak fajitas . I found the steak to be tough and difficult to eat in a tortilla. My waitress that night too was terrible. I actually had to ask another waitress to refill my drink and supply more tortillas. The prices weren't too bad and overall the food was decent. The place was busy so maybe my second visit was a fluke. read more

Came here after day drinking at a ton of VA wineries for my friend's bachelorette. Our group of ladies was famished and we all agreed that Mexican would be an excelente choice! We were ushered right in around 5PM and most of us immediately decided on margaritas. The margaritas were gigantic! We snacked on chips and salsa/guac (which was extra). The chips were really good... too good! The food we ordered came out really quickly. I ordered a combo meal of enchilada & chalupa which arrived with rice & beans. It was all very tasty and everyone in our group seemed to enjoy their food as well! We all became very quiet when the food arrived, so that's always a sign that the food is well received! read more

Stopped in with some friends who live in the area! They frequent here often. The chips and salsa are on point! I love how the salsa is put on the table in a cute glass bottle for refills! I had the mixed fajita lunch special which is served with rice and beans. Very good and flavorful - I would order again! I deducted a star because we were seated right away and brought chips and salsa but had to wait about 10 minutes to get a waiter to take our drink order and the fajitas were not served with any fixings at all besides the wraps. read more

This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant. It's Tucktaway a bit and not necessarily the most obvious place. It's a small restaurant with classic Mexican restaurant Decour. Everything I have eaten here has been absolutely delicious. I believe that their chicken and shallot us with Verde sauce on them are the best in Virginia. I've also had their margaritas here and have not been disappointed. For adventurous people they do you have jumbo margaritas. This place is seriously Authentic and super delicious. If only the place was bigger! My main gripe was having no one talk to us for 5-10 minutes after we got water, but it was very crowded (Cinco de Mayo maybe a factor). Margaritas are good and the food is great. I had the chichirrones with steak and it was fantastic. The rice kinda looks like it's the bland stuff out of a box, but the flavor is on point. Hate to give such a low review. I'm usually pretty generous, but sorry, this was the first place I've ever been where Tex-Mex had zero taste. I had chicken fajitas, and they were completely bland. How is that possible? My wife had enchiladas, and was similiarly disappointed. Average Tex-Mex is the easiest thing in the world to make. How they messed that up here, I"m not sure. Would not return; worth the drive to Haymarket or Gainesville to get much better. At least the service was good. read more

We visited this restaurant because it was a half way point for my in-laws that are elderly & live in Winchester & my Husband & I who live in Woodbridge. I called earlier in the week to see if they could accommodate a scooter or had wheelchair accessibility. They told me yes. When we arrived there was only one guy & he was very rude & short from the beginning. We had a party of 5 & he gave us one basket of chips & one bowl of salsa. I knew this was going to be bad but, it got worst. When he did come to take our order he was rushing us & was not friendly at all. We wanted appetizers & had to wait for guacamole. By the time he bought that out the chips was gone. I asked for chorizo & queso & he did not bring any more chips. Let's just say the service was horrible & the food & service was lousy. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone that's not a local. I guess they're use to poor service. read more

Was not sure what to expect but was hungry and the restaurant was right on Rt 50 and very convenient. Looks like a locals place, but the folks are very welcoming. Great salsa and chips! Beef Enchiladas are a little plain, but good. The rice is excellent, not over-seasoned like most Mexican restaurants. And the best part; a delicious lunch for two was only $12! I've always enjoyed the food I've gotten there. My go-to is the lunch fajitas which I've never had much of an issue with expect maybe wanting a little more meat. A few times I've picked up large lunch orders for coworkers and nowhere near enough chips/salsa was provided. Also, the service when dining-in isn't the best. OMG. I cannot say enough about this place!! I judge a place on its salsa and hell yes!! They hit it out of the park. First of all, they give you a mini jug of it!! No more asking for more, it's right there!! Then, carne asada, honestly, I have had better but perhaps it was the buzz, or maybe the guac. Loved it! My husband gave me 24 hours notice to provide dinner at a business meeting (for 25) in The Plaines last week. I called El Agave and they were very flexible in helping me order trays of enchiladas and fajitas to go. The food was very good. The chicken enchiladas and beef fajitas were the group favorites, along with the rice (this is the one item we ran out of & felt I should have ordered more). The guacamole was also very good. When I arrived at the scheduled pickup time (5:45pm on Thursday) the food was hot, ready and the staff carried it out to my car for me. The amount of food was perfect for the number of people in our group and it all tasted great. Overall, great service and very good food. The amount we paid per person after tip was very good for take out catering. Highly recommend for your next event. read more

I've been going to El Agave for years. While I lived in Fredericksburg, I would drive all the way to The Plains just for El Agave with friends. Now that I'm living in NOVA again, I make sure to eat here at least once a month. Their food is fresh, filling, and affordable, and the atmosphere is friendly and authentic. Parking can be tricky when they're packed, but that's only happened once in the many times I've been. They're always willing to do little extra things, too, like a side of fresh avocado with my meal, or cilantro added to a meal or my Patron margarita! Stopped in for lunch and we weren't disappointed. My Ensalada Tejana was delicious with tender chicken, beef and very fresh shrimp. My boss had the Parillada and she enjoyed it immensely.
