I've been eating chicken my entire life and I've never had it this delicious. THIS enchilada was life changing! I have been here many times and the food has always been excellent. Tonight I had the burrito California, which I do recommend. There is a large menu with lots of options. Staff is friendly, the food is usually pretty fast and reasonably priced. They do sometimes get very busy so be aware of that. read more

Delicious food, Monday afternoon we had $2.25 12oz margaritas!! The most colorful restaurant I've ever been in. Friendly quick service. I had the Bandera, 3 different enchiladas with a salad that had guacamole on it. Hubby had the individual combo with a chili relleno and tostada with rice and beans. We loved it. Just got takeout from here and it was fantastic! Their guacamole tastes amazing and fresh. Their chips are addicting; I regret not asking for extra when I ordered. My boyfriend's first choice isn't usually Mexican food, but he LOVED the chicken fajitas. And our order was ready so fast! We had a large group 20+. They were able to accommodate us, it was a little crowded but we were comfortable. The waitress was really nice. She had many tables and still kept up with the needs of our group. Everyone said their food was warm and had great flavor. This can be a challenge when you have so many orders to be out at the same time. We have been here numerous times. We are never disappointed. Stopped in for lunch Wednesday. Reasonable priced lunch menu. Food was brought out SUPER QUICK. I ordered the Speedy Gonzalez it was great and still good when I warmed it up for breakfast the next morning. I like to add salsa to my entrees so I ask for extra that they bring out with chips. We ate at El Agave a few times before they moved, so we checked out the new location about a week after it opened. The food quality is the same, everything is tasty but Mexican food purists may not be fans of the dishes covered in various sauces. Stick to the specialty items and you'll be just fine. El Agave lost my fifth star due to a lack of staffing. While we acknowledge the slowness in getting seated was due to everyone in town wanting to check out El Agave's new digs, it was clear that the waitstaff were overwhelmed by the volume. I don't blame our waiter for the fact that it took longer than necessary to get drinks, or more chips, or the hot salsa for those chips (which is delicious), or even to get our order in; I could see that he and nearly everyone else running tables were getting slammed. That's poor management and the owners should bring in a few more servers on the busiest nights. That said, the drinks are strong and the spice is real so we'll be back. read more

I come up to MN to visit family about once a year and this is a place I make sure is a place I stop at least once if not twice. Great service goes along with great food. I have eaten Mexican food many different places throughout the United States and this place has the best steak chimichangas I've ever had. Probably one of the worst Mexican food experiences I've ever had. For starters, they didn't have the courtesy of telling us that they do not offer free beverage refills, and continued to refill our sodas, several times. Be careful, at $2 or more for each glass. Adds up quickly with a large table. I had ordered enchiladas, and in all of my travels throughout Mexico or the Southwest, I've never had them served with a thick white alfredo-like jarred sauce. At the very least, put it on the menu, or give your customers a choice of traditional red or green and offer the white as the exception. The majority of folks would expect red. The sauce tasted like it was canned/jarred and had way too much flour in it. Tasteless, thick and bland. The fajitas had way too much oil and zero taste and overcooked. The cook needs to learn how to season the food. It's quite clear the owners are not familiar with Mexican food. It's unfortunate, as we drove a long way to check it out. Far too many other restaurants to visit, than waste your money on this place. read more

Wow, very surprised by this place! Came on a Sunday for lunch, had excellent service and a fun, clean, atmosphere. My husband had a burrito with chicken (California) which was huge and very tasty! I had the pollo al chipotle and absolutely LOVED it! Food was so flavorful and even the sides were great (a lot of times you get dried out beans or rice, not here). The entire experience was absolutely awful and the bill reflected no correction despite incorrect food deliveries and many other issues throughout the evening. Kept hearing, "Not my fault." When we asked for the correct food to be delivered, the server said the kitchen told her the corrected dish would be delivered after EVERYONE else's in the restaurant was done. ??? Attempted to speak to a manager about the issues and they didn't see the problems with our experience. The server then walked by and called one of us "rude" good and loud, and later when we attempted to correct whatever message the manager delivered to our server about the conversation. The server called one of us a "bitch" in front of the manager. The manager said, "I'll speak to her." We thought she should be fired for that word exchange. Both employees were clearly in the wrong role for a service-based business. In my job, our informal motto is 'there is nothing more important than a customer.' We do whatever we can to ensure clients are retained, have a great experience with our services and business grows. This "team" needs a reality check on their priorities and approach. read more

People always say, "you can't screw up Mexican food." Well this is somewhat true but El Agave has never screwed up anything in their life. This place is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever dined in.
