Small Mexican restaurant with amazing food. Heard about it on Facebook and decided to check it out. I got the birria tacos and my husband got the chimichangas. The tacos were stuffed with meat and cheese and the tortilla was nice and crispy - highly recommend!! My husband said the chimichangas were good and that the beef had a nice hint of lime to it that made it extra tasty. Service was friendly, food came out fast. Good chips and salsa for the table. Chips were warm and crispy. The restaurant itself is small, but there was plenty of seating when we got there. Be prepared to be close to other tables since it's a small space. The kitchen is across the hall. They had a small patio outside that I would like to see get expanded to the parking lot since it was pretty tight to be just on the sidewalk next to the building. Best Mexican place I have tried in the western suburbs. After reading prior reviews, we made the short trip to Long Lake to try Talavera. It is on the east side of the building behind Marathon Gas Station. The kitchen and the dining room are separate - go through the glass doors not the single door under the permanent sign or you'll end up in the kitchen. We ordered enchiladas and tacos and everything was spot on. Excellent salsas, quick friendly service, and a bright, clean, dining room. We've only been once but I think I am for sure a regular now. read more

This is a bit off my beaten path but I was out this way with friends and we stopped by for lunch with about 5 adults and 10 kids. The owner was very accommodating and set us up with two long tables. We were pleasantly surprised that on Mondays kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal! I got the lunch fajitas and I really enjoyed them, it was a perfect serving size! My kids liked the tacos and although the menu doesn't have chicken nuggets and fries they do offer that if you ask (in case you have picky kids). Really nice homey vibes! read more

This is a great little gem! I wasn't even aware it was there till I did a yelp search on restaurants in the area for places I haven't tried yet. I had pork chili verde - delicious....and their chips/salsa are homemade and addictive. I was there alone so that's all I could fit in my tummy due to the nice portion size. They have a huge menu! Prices are good and in line with what you'd expect The one thing that could improve is that they boast their house made margaritas, I ordered one....they are large and in charge but it was very blue and sweet, and I prefer just a limey margarita (no objection to the size lol) read more

Very enjoyable new Mexican restaurant in Long Lake. It's sort of an odd layout in a strip mall business building next to the gas station, but it's very nice. The dining room is on one side of the entry hall, the kitchen on the other. It's very nicely decorated with authentic decor. Service is friendly and attentive. The menu includes all of your favorites with some good combinations and some seafood options. They offer a nice selection of drinks and beverages, and make a mean margarita. Portions are huge so don't be afraid to split a meal or take half of whatever you order home for later. It was a little adventure to find, but once we figured it out, everything was excellent! read more

Mexican is my go to favorite since I was a kid in Los Angeles and living in the twin cities means No Good Mexican food ! Well that has changed for sure lets start with a full menu of REAL MEXICAN dishes not just tacos burritos and fajitas .. We started with chips and salsa we upgraded guacamole they bring you a gigantic bowel in a lava rock bowl and it was fantastic I had the chori pollio "the best I have ever had the chorizo was really great and the beans were totally authentic with homemade tortillas and they brought more nice touch my wife had the taco salad big fresh and tasty the service was fast and very accurate the place is in a strip mall we call Texas style seems everything is in a strip mall in Dallas lol nice bar as well you cannot go wrong here its so good I cannot wait to go back for more read more

Great little hidden gem in Long Lake. Tucked away in a little building right on the main road. Plenty of parking. Inside is clean and very cozy. The staff are the stars of the experience. Friendly and very welcoming. Great comfortable vibes. Order; It was taco Tuesday so you order 3 and get one for free. Carne asada street taco. Seasoned well with good meat texture. Could have had a little more char to the meat. Great crunch from the onions. Really really good bite. Al pastor street taco. Sweeter marinade. Had a stewed meat consistently. I prefer more charred texture. Still a good bite. Quesa birrias. Cheesy meaty deliciousness. Great freshness from the cilantro and onion. The consomme was flavorful... Make sure to squeeze in the fresh lime. Salsa: Green was flavorful and bright not spicy Red was flavorful and really spicy for Minnesota standards..beware Aguas frescas: Horchata was creamy and spiced just right. Have eaten here twice now. First time was awesome. Great food and service. On the second visit we had terrible service despite it being less busy than the first time. Had to wait forever for our waitress to come to our table, finally got water then waited forever for her to come back. She took our drink order then disappeared. We had to flag her down to take our food order, to ask for chips, to get our bill. It made the meal so much less enjoyable. Food was still good although we had to wait for them to bring our tortillas so we could eat our fajitas. When they finally came we had asked for corn tortillas and got flour. We just went with it as we didn't want to wait anymore. They need to fix the uneven service if we plan to go back. read more

Always looking for new restaurants in the area, and I believe this has been open for a year but we just noticed. Outstanding authentic Mexican cuisine , and very friendly staff. Nice , clean atmosphere. Should have been easier to locate in Long Lake, but of course it's hidden on the side of a gas station/office complex. Had outstanding "Chicken Fajitas" and "Beef Nachos". Had heard some good feedback about this newer place and stopped in for lunch. Had a Negra Modelo beer which they have on draft. It was ice cold and delicious. This place is a hidden gem, we went a month ago and thought it was great, so we went again today to confirm, and this place has earned its place. We just moved here from San Diego, so we have high expectations, but they really knocked it out of the park. The fajitas never disappoint, and the margaritas are made right. Not sure what long lake did to deserve Mexican food this good, but I'm not complaining. Please go visit this place, we really can't afford to lose Mexican food this good this far from the city.
