My mouth began watering. "That looks reeaaaallly good" I said to myself as I stood in the short line. The guy in front of me turns around and says " they ARE..this place is the best". The barbacoa is nicely cooked with that good beefy smell, with onions. Yes, the refried beans on the homemade tortilla please..yes, cilantro.. yes, to everything. I am ready to marry one of the counter ladies. Two nice sized tacos, wrapped carefully by the helpful counter ladies. When I pay at the cashier, it comes to a whopping $3.95 and my jaw drops again. Take my first bite in the truck...this place has no sit down, it's all take out. Oh god..getitgetitgetit... the flavors all come together in a wonderful taco..the meat is well cooked but not overdone, the onions tender and mild a hint of the beans. The tortillas are thin and don't overwhelm the taco. Just enough cilantro. Giant getitgetitgetit. First taco..gone...second...gone. With my primal lunch hunger satisfied...two were enough for sure...I think about this hidden gem hiding not far from the heights. It wasn't until I spoke Spanish and asked what was going on and why everybody was getting helped but me, that I finally got assisted. Obnoxious but not surprising. They have several different sausage to buy, hot, mild, Cajun, and they have boudan both spicy and mild versions of it. I got me 2 rings of hot sausage (think how chapel hill comes if you dont know what a ring is) and one link of boudan. Took them home and put them on the smoker and smoked them for about 30+ mins at a pretty high temp for a smoker. Came out great I actualy had some sausage left in the morning and ate it I thought it was even better on the reheat. The boudan was good too, I smoked it like the sausage, it was spicy full of flavor I put it on some carr's water crackers. I got what I wanted out of that trip and will be back. So go here this summer for your next BBQ and get the sausage I cant say anything on the other meats but they looked ok. It is worth the trip.

As a person native born to Houston, but having lived and explored much of the world, one of my favorite things to do is to invite friends to go on a walking tour with me, of the area around the Houston Farmer's Market on Airline. Many years run by the Canino family, as a co-op with local farmers. And when they retired a group of Houstonians, committed to preserving it and making it as nice as possible for shopping. And it's a wonderful place to go shopping for fruits and vegetables and to eat one of the restaurants here. So I usually begin my walking tour with a trip to El Bolillo Bakery to show them the breads and then over to Granel Spices and then to El Rey meat market to show them the chorizo that I like and the freshly made chicharrones and to pointing out the most excellent Mexican restaurant just on the side El Rey. And then heading over to the farmers market proper and showing them the excellent flour tortillas that one can get at Alamo Tamales. A visit to LA Crawfish or other eateries. And also walk and talk about the different uses of the spices and maybe some tropical fruits that people might not be familiar with. It's a great half day and I love taking people around. So definitely plan to visit this area of Airline Drive and have some fun.
