Who would've thought you could get authentic Mexican food in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Kentucky? There it was! I had the Carne Asada burrito and it was really good. The guacamole had great flavor although I wish they would have mashed it a little bit more to the style that I was used to, but that could be a regional thing. I had to travel down to Kentucky to sell some property, and the first place I stopped was lunch. I either never realized they served ceviche or didn't pay attention. So i ordered some. Once i got over the blanched shrimp , and realized there are a billion and one ways to fix ceviche, it is actually a great dish. There's more than enough for one person, but i was hungry. There was nothing left on the plate. When I lived here, El Azul Grande was my favorite restaurant in town. Service: the guys here were great! Super friendly and the kindest customer service I had ever received. Even offered my boyfriend and I a spicier salsa (since we enjoy spicy food). Food: coming from San Diego we have very high expectations of Mexican food and this place was AMAZING! The rice and beans on the side were like how my mom makes them and she makes really good Mexican food lol I ordered a combination plate that had 1 enchilada and 1 chile relleno. My boyfriend got a plate that had carne asada, chicken and chorizo and he loved it. If we ever find ourselves back in Kentucky, I would make the drive to come back here. One thing about eastern Kentucky is that there are a ton of Mexican restaurants. I know, random. But, in all honesty, I love the Mexican food they serve in EKY. It's very unauthentic and everything is covered in queso. It's delicious! El Azul Grande is a great place to check out for Mexican food in the area. The service is friendly and quick, and the food is good. They have great salsa, strong margaritas, and a dish called Pollo Bandido which is chicken, rice, and beans all covered in cheese and served with tortillas. It's great! If you find yourself in EKY and you're looking for a good spot to grab a meal, El Azul Grande is definitely a great place to check out. read more

The other Yelp reviewer is right. I've eaten here countless times. It's almost a staple. Staples in a town this size may come easy (afterall, there aren't a ton of places to choose from) but this place is so good it deserves to be a staple in any sized town. The service is incredibly fast, even on busy nights (and they are busy every night, but you wont have to wait... they're great about that). I've gotten food so quickly that I've jokingly asked whether it was already prepared and sitting in the kitchen. I don't know how they get it so fast. It's always piping hot ("careful, hot plate!") so I doubt that it's pre-prepared. The chips are hot and fresh and delicious. The salsa is lacking.... it's basically tomato paste. The food is very good. My favorite dishes are the pollo bandido, fried chicken chimichangas, and the nachos supremos. They cover a lot of stuff in queso... which I love. If you are weary of it, you might ask for it on the side. The staff is so friendly and eager to please that, I bet, if you were able to describe to them what you wanted, they'd probably fix it for you. I've never tried it... but I've seen some very picky eaters order some very specific foods (ex. rice with cheese on instead of ordering a dish on the menu, sante fe chicken without the chicken). Once I noticed the window next to the cashier was cracked and had been taped up. It looked like a recent accident. As I was paying, I asked the cashier what happened. He looked at the cracked window, smiled a little and said "it's broken." I laughed and said that I could tell. He clearly didn't want to explain what happened. I thought it was funny. read more

Service was great! My daughter had some type of chicken soup that was delicious. My other daughter had chimichangas and enjoyed them. My husband had chicken chorizo and thought it was pretty good but a bit greasy. My meal of enchiladas was so salty I couldn't eat it. My husband agreed it was too salty. This review is not even based on the food. I chose to eat here due to my favorite Mexican place, El Rodeo being closed for the day. I was with a party of 5 on a Saturday night, and had to wait 15 minutes to even be seated. Once seated, it took OVER 45 minutes to get our food. There were other parties in the restaurant that came long after us & they got their food way before we did. We finally got our food after asking about it & after even more waiting. I'll stick to El Rodeo from now on. read more
