amazing restaurant, service is quick and the waitress we had was soo kind and friendly. very nice music playing, not too loud but just right. i ordered the coctel el barzon, came with shrimp, avocado, onions, tomatoes, & this red sauce. i didnt get cilantro because i dont like the taste personally. and this behemoth of a dish came out! i did not expect it to look like that but i was very delighted. lots of shrimp at the bottom and the sauce itself was sweeter, it heavily reminds me of the ketchup in a chicken nugget lunchable if youve ever had one. some might not like that but it was very good to me, a light refreshing meal, it wouldve been perfect on a hot summer day. 10/10, and the bathroom was very clean and smelled nice aswell. i highly recommend going here read more

The food here is fantastic. It is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Everyone in Clayton/Smithfield raves about La Cocina, but El Barzon is much better. There are many reasons but I'll give a few: 1) Fresh guacamole is the best I've had. 2) Food always comes out quickly and hot. 3) I recommend their pollo chipotle. Service- The service is always efficient and friendly, and the restaurant is spotless. It doesn't feel like you'd walked into a locker room with sticky floors, and stale smells. Red sauce was way too sweet so we gave back our order, bag and all...They "fixed" our order but took back the utensils and napkins. Why? Really? Burrito wasn't properly wrapped with the ends open. Couldn't wrap it properly yet took the napkins and forks which was NEEDED. Asked for hot sauce and was given a side of queso. Was given red sauce instead of green. Just overall a terrible experience. Conveniently located right on the main road with its own private parking lot. Open late, we're here on a Sunday at 8:30pm, a plus for us. The place has the whole Mexican ambiance and colorful decor with a tv playing the game or whatever you want. Staff is friendly and fast. What a amazing find in an unexpected place. Native Californian and always searching for Mexican food with flavor. This place makes the mark. The drinks are tasty and not watered down. The guacamole so fresh and flavorful. The salsa packs flavor and is not just out of a jar. We tried the carnitas and fajitas and both were so tasty. Portions are huge. Service was fantastic..... pre- Covid level of service. I had no complaints. If you find yourself staying the night here between here and there, it's a short drive from the outlets and 1000% percent better than anything you'd find there to eat. And you'd be served and back in your hotel room before anything there would be ready to serve you. Will definitely return when back in this area. read more

I normally get the 3 taco plate (Tacos a la diabla), but the burritos, enchiladas, and tamales are good too. We always get the chicken soup whenever someone in the household has a cold. I've only been a couple of times since I don't eat out often, but every time I've been I've had great service. It is also very clean and tidy. However the most recent time it was very crowded but the owner himself was at the front and saw us walk in. (There was not a line.) He found us a seat and made sure we got service despite the crowd. Nice atmosphere. Very cheerful Mexican decor. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. We ordered a couple of beers and an order of cheese nachos and a side of guacamole for starters. Extensive menu! My husband had Chile rellanos for his meal and I had the taco salad. The food was not great - maybe we ordered too generic. The chips needed salt and the salsa was very bland - I asked for hot sauce to spice it up. The queso on the nachos was very bland and spread out on the plate and was hard to scoop up. The rellanos was an odd open face with ground beef and queso- not stuffed, battered and fried. He said it was good, but would have preferred shredded cheese and not queso. Taco salad was good - with shredded cheese, retried beans, ground beef, guacamole, sour cream with lettuce in a flour tortilla shell. Again bland so I doused it with hot sauce and salsa. It was fine but not extraordinary or particularly authentic - price good, $30 for the two of us plus tip. Wouldn't go back.i know that area is known for good Mexican food. read more

First visit. Will not be our last. Food is delicious with large portions. I have no idea what I ordered, but the hominy soup was excellent. The pico de Gallo was excellent. The rice and beans were so fresh and well seasoned that this side could have been the main entree. The wait staff was prompt and courteous. The restaurant was spotless and comfortable. The only thing I could find worthy of a complaint was the annoying tiny fly. So good! Our favorite Mexican restaurant in town. The Pollo con Crema is usually on special and my favorite dish there. Great drink specials and huge portions. Even the seating is wonderful with very large open booths and these circular chairs that are really comfortable to sit back and have a great meal. read more
