This place is so delicious! The meat is seasoned perfectly. I typically get the steak tacos, however I got the fajitas years ago and think about them all the time they were delicious. The staff is very nice and warm.

    Al pastor and steak tacos!

Delicious food! We started going there during Covid and been there ever since. Small business and tacos are great!

A last minute pick up for dinner turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Family owned atmosphere without much of a line. Friendly customer service and very quick food service. Good quantity of food for the price of steak tacos now-a-days. Would revisit and try other menu items.

I went here for lunch. I wanted to check it out since I hadn't been here before. When I got there, the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There were two people seated at one of the tables and the manager/ owner person was hanging out with them. As I entered, I was greeted and asked how I could be helped. I told him, I was there to pick up tacos to go and I just needed a minute or two to check out their menu. Then manager proceeded to tell me what kind of tacos they offered and what specials they had. I chose to get three tacos on corn tortillas (al pastor, carne asada and pollo) with everything on them. I was told to wait a few minutes while the food is being prepared. The restaurant was clean, the menu had a good variety on it and the prices were reasonable. Most tacos were $2 each. There was one that was $2.55. The service was good. After having the tacos, my reaction was I could've had way better. Neither of the three tacos were any good in taste. Average taste would be the best level for them if that. The pollo one was the worst. No flavor or good taste. Even the green and red sauces were crappy. Their hot (red) sauce wasn't even spicy at all. It was salty and sour. I was pretty disappointed. The food wasn't good at all. Well, at least I experienced it to know not to go back here. There are other, much better taco restaurants nearby.

Everyone was so nice and the food is spectacular! I got the breakfast omelet and it was delicious- you have to try the green sauce on it!

Great food, quick service, and authentic! And Delicious!! I recommend the chilaquiles con carne and the tamales are the best in the area!

The green chicken tamales were decent. A little dry though. The red posole was pretty good. But I had to ask for cabbage and cilantro. I feel that should just be standard when ordering posole. The salsa that came with the chips, seemed like it was just tomato sauce with some cilantro thrown in it and jalapeño seeds to give it a little spicy effect. *side note* -When I used the restroom, the toilet would not flush. I peeked into the tank and there was no water in it. **As soon as I stood up to leave the restaurant, my head felt really strange and I felt dizzy and I was extremely shaky. I had my husband drive and then I ended up puking 6x's in 30 mins. My husband didn't get sick. He DID NOT eat the cabbage. Only I did. So I feel as if something was wrong with the cabbage or I was "poisoned". Because I was completely fine all morning. Then 15 mins after eating my posole, I got sick. My stomach didn't hurt. It wasn't cramping. My head just felt very tingly and weird. Then I was dizzy and almost seeing double. After puking 6x's, I finally got home and everything was fine. I didn't eat anything else that day.

    Michelada

Came in on a hot day just for a drink end up getting tacos and a Michelada and I was not mad about it. They did the lengua tacos very well. They weren't rubbery like how most places have them. Michelada were the best. It was sweet and spicy which made them perfect. I would come back just for the Michelada.

Authentic, made to order fresh and delish! The steak tacos are my fave . They are very friendly, don't mind special orders and have excellent service. Always very clean and way reasonable price for the amount of ingredients they put on everything. Bonuses include 9 am opening on weekdays and 8 am on weekends & Dollar Tacos on Wednesdays. Highly recommended!!

We ordered a side of guac, 3 beer batter fried fish tacos, and birria tacos. I also ordered a drink. We opened the bag and I got a flattop grilled fish as opposed to the beer batter fried fish tacos like I ordered. I didn't want to wait for my food again but it was rather disappointing that we went through the effort of going through the ordering options for it to still not come out right. My husband had the birria tacos and mentioned that that weren't bad, just not one go out of his way for again. I went to try it and it was super dried out even after dipping into the consume which was lacking a bit in flavor. Then for the drink, they forgot to give it to us, and when we came in they gave us a 4 ounce cup for our 3.50 Jamaica aqua Fresca. When we asked the hostess she looked at us like we were speaking a foreign language and offered us an orange jarrito. All in all, we were rather disappointed with this experience but hope that another try down the line will be better.

So, I stopped in during the week, just after lunch time and found this little hole-in-the wall of a restaurant conveniently nestled in a shopping center next to the local Walmart. Even though I walked in and the restaurant was completely empty, the pure vibrancy of the decor and the cheerfulness of the staff encouraged me to stay. Not to mention that the aroma making its way out from the kitchen was absolutely mouth-watering. I took a seat at the bar while I perused the menu and was delighted in the simplicity of it. You know the food is about to be fire when the menu is simple and a restaurant focuses on what it does well. In addition to the excellent service, the food was absolutely phenomenal. I started off with some chips and salsa.... which was delightfully flavorful and perfectly crisp. Then, I had a bowl of the tortilla soup. Each spoonful was like deja vu. Each bite made me feel like I was in my grandmother's kitchen as a little girl all over again. The broth was perfectly seasoned and each bite came with a chunk of chicken and an assortment of veggies... truly perfecto! Once I was done with the appetizers, I made my decision to try two tacos from the menu. The first was a salmon taco--and it didn't TASTE FISHY. It was grilled to perfection and then paired with an unexpected yet delicious topping of crispy potato strings and chipotle aioli. I ate every bite of this. It was the perfect combination of crunch and flavor, I just couldn't get enough. Then I also ordered the carne asada a cabron taco. Simple, yet dynamically flavorful. I was so full at this point but took this one home to eat at a later time. Still as amazing as the day I ordered it i'm sure. While I neglected to have any desserts or margaritas here, I was assured that they are just as remarkable as anything else. I had a wonderful meal, excellent service and I greatly look forward to going back if i'm ever in the area again for work. 10/10 Highly recommend!!

Took awhile for someone to come from the back to greet us at the register and get our order. It's also fairly easy to park here and service is pretty quick and friendly. The menu is not super adventurous which helps appeal to a wide audience, but at the same time offers 15 protein options, which is more than enough choices to make repeat visits interesting. In addition to being a pleasant spot to hangout with friends, the reasonable pricing here -- particularly with the option to make the meal quite healthy, is something that will draw me back for repeat visits. The portion sizes are pretty good as well and the churros are a great dessert to finish the meal. Overall, a solid option to enjoy Mexican cuisine in a nice setting. The meat could use a little more seasoning, and the salsas could probably be kicked up a notch as well (even the spiciest option was pretty mild for me), but still enjoyable.

5 stars for Monica's Mexican Restaurant in Prospect Heights…read more This restaurant is located at the back of a strip mall off of Milwaukee Avenue. It seems like a hidden gem in my opinion, they have alcohol, a full menu or traditional Mexican cuisine and are very reasonably priced for what you get. There are plenty of tables for dining in. I highly recommend the shrimp Diabla plate - a big portion that comes with tortillas, while spicy, not insanely spicy. Overall, highly recommended.

Hidden Gem for Authentic Mexican Food…read more Monica's is one of those small hole-in-the-wall places you might overlook--but I'm so glad I stopped in for lunch while looking for something new. From the moment I walked in, the hostess and waitresses were absolutely phenomenal--warm, welcoming, and on top of everything. I placed my order and, no exaggeration, my food came out in under five minutes. I ordered two gorditas with picadillo, and they were massive--each one about the size of my hand with fingers spread open. They came with rice and beans on the side, and everything was absolutely delicious. I also got a Coke, and for the whole meal, it was just $18. Really fair pricing for the amount and quality of food. The red salsa is worth mentioning again--so flavorful and with just the right kick. A couple of things to note: * Spanish is the predominant language spoken here. While the staff was very helpful and did their best to accommodate, I overheard a few other tables struggling a bit to place their orders. Not a dealbreaker at all--just something to be aware of. * If you ask for a glass for your drink, double-check that it's clean. They brought me two different cups, and both had noticeable residue inside, so I ended up just using the bottle. Still, none of that takes away from how authentic and delicious the food is. Monica's is a true hidden gem--if you're craving real Mexican food, you need to give this place a try!
