I've been to Taqueria El Comalito several times over the past couple of months, and it's quickly become one of my go-to spots. I've tried the quesadilla, gordita, tacos, and quesabirria--and everything has been consistently on point. The steak is well-seasoned, the al pastor is straight-up delicious, the birria is rich and flavorful, and the lengua honestly won me over. The habanero salsa is as in delicious and has a bit of a kick too. If you go, do yourself a favor and get the handmade tortillas--they make a big difference. It's a small, family-run spot with a great vibe, and you can feel that personal touch. I'll be honest, I wanted to keep this place a secret... but judging by how much busier it gets every time I go, the word is definitely out. One thing I've noticed is the customer service keeps getting better each visit. Not that it was ever bad--I've never had an issue--but it feels like they're really settling in, getting to know their customers, and growing as a business. The people cooking always make it a point to say goodbye and thank you on the way out, which is a really nice touch. Good taco spots in the suburbs that you can consistently rely on are hard to find--but this is absolutely one of them. Ordered lunch today and it's still just as delicious as it was months ago! We ordered a few times since my original review and those dines were hit or miss like they would forget to give us our horchatas ordered (which isn't cheap at $5 for a large drink), but we get it. Things happen. After a couple of good meals during different times and days, Taqueria El Comalito still fills my stomach with yumminess. Today I ordered the taco meal with carne asada and fresh, homemade tortillas. Seriously - the tortillas elevates the meal making it feel like I'm having tacos at a friend's home. The carne asada was plentiful, the beans and rice were freshly prepared, and the horchata (yes I got it this time) was refreshing! It's different from some other places as it's not overly sweet or overly watered down. The woman working the register is so sweet. She's friendly and helpful. There is a clear passion for the food and a proudness to serving the community. Don't expect a big Mexican restaurant with seating and table service. There are just a couple of tables inside for a few people to sit and enjoy, but there's no server and you have to clean up after yourself :) It's all still good! YUM read more

Taqueria El Comalito is a hidden gem and didn't know about it prior. It's about 15 min from my house and luckily my husband stumbled upon a review. The place is clean, has ample parking, and the food is absolutely delicious. The handmade tortillas make a HUGE difference and you can really taste the freshness in every bite. Everything felt authentic and well-prepared. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back For Latinos, the salsa is good and that makes a huge did difference for us. read more

Great little joint! Wandering around Arlington heights and stumbled upon this place. Small but clean and cozy vibes. A few tables that fit 2 people max and just counter service. The steak is fire! I had a signature taco i believe its called the tacomalito, sans habanero and it was delish, the guac was a little brownish on top but tasty. Then I did a chicken some, the sope was crispier than I'm used to but overall great flavor. Nice little spot and will be back for more steak! read more

My family and I were really excited to try your place out the other day. We had quite an appetite after a long day at baseball games. We were going to spend well over a hundred dollars. We scoped out the seating, and while there were only a two small tables for two. we were totally prepared to make it work and settle in for a nice meal inside. However, when I politely asked to use the restroom, the person at the register who didn't seem particularly friendly quite bluntly informed us there were no public bathrooms available. It was a bit surprising especially since we were clearly intending to be paying customers not just passing through. That interaction, combined with being unable to use a basic amenity really dampened our spirits. We had every intention of dining in, but unfortunately we ended up deciding to leave before even ordering. read more

Damn. I drove into the area around 7:40 from St Louis on a Sunday evening and had the sole purpose to getting to this taqueria before it closed at 8. The online ordering system stopped taking orders so my fingers were crossed that I could still order in person. I'm texan, houstonian to be exact. I've had some fantastic taqeueria food, backyard Mexican party food, etc. This place is on par with the best. The chicken taco and gordita were SO SO good. Been to Taqueria El Coalition a few times now and the food has been consistently really good. I've mainly stuck to the steak dishes so far and everything has been flavorful and cooked well. On my last visit I tried the burrito and really enjoyed it. It was a little smaller than some of the nearby competitors, but honestly the quality makes up for it. I'd rather have a smaller burrito that tastes great than a giant one that's just okay. Also, the hot sauces they give on the side are absolutely worth the 5 stars by themselves. I just moved to this neighborhood. I live 700 feet away. I stopped in and ordered an asada burrito. What a fucking joke. A tiny amount of overcooked and reheated beef and a ton of lettuce. A literal shit ton of lettuce. The burrito was 98% lettuce and 2% meat. Lettuce and meat was all there was. $12 plus tip, what a total rip off. The lettuce isn't even good, it's heat wilted into inedible garbage. Just moved here, will never return. Will, however, talk smack. To everyone I meet in the neighborhood. I wanted to keep it my amazing little secret but the people who work here are so incredibly kind that I desperately want them to be so successful. This is the real deal. If you want bland unseasoned food, don't come here. Like seriously if you think salt and pepper is seasoning, this is not for you. If you are cultured and know real good food, this is the place for you. The food here is unreal! The seasoning of the meat is on point, the chips are fried fresh, they are EVERYTHINGGG. One bite of the tacos and we both looked at each other and just knew we were hooked. The umami? ITS THERE. We've been back twice in the span of 3 weeks. That's basically once a week! Are we regulars already??? The green salsa has no spice to me but it tastes sooo yummy. The red salsa kind of tastes like a milder Valentina. Their salsa for their chips and salsa is clearly homemade and delicious. I hope they don't ever stop with the amazing seasoning and care they put into their food. My cowoker told me about this place so I went and checked it out. I have been on a hunt for a place that Chargrills there Asada meat for the tacos and Burrito within the suburbs. To get Chargrilled steak tacos and Burritos I would always have to go all the way to the city (La Padadita & El Asedero) to get them. This place was just as good.l if not better. The meat was chargrilled and a lot softer. The corn tortillas were homemade and delicious. The only thing I wish they had wa sthe thinner salsa verde sauce but there sauces were good too. Thai place is gonna be trouble for me trying to keep slim. If out in the Arlington heights area give this place a try. I will definitely be heading back. read more

Honest - best Mexican restaurant (carry out type) in the Arlington Heights / Buffalo Grove / Wheeling area, period. I used to frequent Mia's Cantina in Wheeling as my favorite and still I miss it since they've closed. Their indoor restaurant was fantastic. I also was recently introduced to Ochoa, which I believe is on Milwaukee Avenue between Wheeling and Vernon Hills and it was very good. Very nice owners and there was a nice dining area to eat inside as well. And the food was top-notch. But then I had Comalito - and this was a significant step up from anywhere I've had. The skirt steak burritos, for example, and the quesa birro tacos, our indescribably fantastic and consistent. You can tell that the same cook each visit, and a fabulous one is making these extremely flavorful, extremely generous portioned, extremely affordable, this place is the bomb. This is my only go to for Mexican food as truly I haven't found anything close to this quality and affordability. But it is mostly carry out with a couple small tables inside. First time here and I had the tres enchiladas con carne with barbacoa beef dinner and my wife had the 2 tacos with ground beef, chips and salsa and guacamole. Everything we had was excellent!
