After 2 failed attempts at other restaurants, my boyfriend and I decided to walk over to Los Huaraches. It was my first time there. The place is small and cozy inside. When we walked in, the cashier told us to sit wherever we wanted, and the server brought some chips and salsa to snack on. My boyfriend got the special #1, which came with 2 tacos, rice, and beans. I got the special #3, which had 1 taco, 1 tostada, rice, and beans. I went with al pastor for my tostada and asada (steak) for the taco. Both were good, but I liked the al pastor more. I'd stick with tacos with al pastor if I went back. The food was solid and tasted authentic. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it, but if I were in the area craving tacos, I'd go back Price is very reasonable. I just have a taco joint closer to me that's my go-to. This place is tucked into a small strip mall that could easily be missed from the street. When you walk in, it definitely gives you authentic taqueria vibes. There's some neat art on the wall and a display of Mexican candy/treats in the front of the restaurant. I ordered a chicharron huarache which was perfectly made with warm beans inside the corn masa and topped with chircharron in a salsa verde and lettuce/cheese. So good! My dad had the chicken huarache and then ended up ordering a second because of how much he liked it. Service was attentive. One thing I did notice is that they could try to sweep between customers because there were leftover crumbs from previous tables all over the place, while the actual table tops were clean. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised by Los Huaraches. We stopped here on a whim while craving Tacos. This is not a fancy place and it's location, nestled In a small strip mall, can be easily missed. But finding this gem is well worth it. We arrived after 6 PM on a Sunday evening. There are about seven tables and only two were taken. As we watched, they do a lot of take out business. Football (soccer) was playing on the television. And the few people there were with their children. Ordering was hard. It all looked so good. We ended up ordering much more than we could eat so we could sample as much as we could. Chips and Salsa: the salsa (red) was excellent. It was fresh and somewhat spicy. Guacamole: Avocados are expensive right now. It's difficult to know what you're getting when the menu says "market price." You can get a 4 ounce or an 8 ounce order. We opted for the small. They served more chips with it. It was very fresh. There was very little onions or tomatoes. We could see and taste the cilantro. Mostly, it was fresh avocado that tasted great. Tamales: some one told us we had to try these. There was one pork tamale in red sauce, and a chicken tamale in green sauce. We've had a hard finding good tamales in the area. We'll, we found them. Taco and Tostada dinners: we each had one. They come with refried beans and rice. I had one Al pastor taco and a Carne Asada tostada. Kerrie had an Al Pastor taco and an Avocado tostada. They use double corn tortillas for the tacos. The base for the tostada was crisp and flaky. The flakiness was a nice touch. This rounded out our meal, after which we rolled out the door. For the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the ambiance, I give my highest rating and a strong recommendation for anyone who enjoys good Mexican street food to try it out. read more

This is one of the few Mexican restaurants in Prospect Heights and it does not make my list of good taco restaurants. I ordered carne asada tacos and a flank steak tacos and the tacos were not very filled, flavorful, or juicy. The most difficult taco to eat was the flank steak taco. It was dry and lacked beef flavor. I wouldn't recommend that one. For $3 each, none of the tacos were worth it to me. The asada was a 10/10 The chorizo a 9/10 in my opinion it was just a little too greasy, but was good! The green sauce was the spiciest in compares to the red. I was not a big fan of this place. I came for lunch and ordered a burrito with lengua. Most places will allow you to substitute their tomatoes and lettuce for rice without a charge, this place decides to charge without even letting you know their going to charge more. The burrito itself wasn't bad but I will most definitely not be returning. To be very honest, I don't think I should ever be paying more at a Mexican place than a burrito from Chipotle. $9.50 is just way to much for a burrito. The waitress was also eating her food in the back but still visible while she can watch the front entrance. And I want to believe it was the owner who just sat behind the counter where the register is just charging the customers. Whenever a customer would walk on, he would just stare at the waitress. I pass by Los Huaraches almost every day but never got to try them. I've been craving authentic Mexican food so I decided to order some dishes to go. This is a small mom & pop shop in a strip mall off of Milwaukee Ave. The interior is much like any common taqueria so it felt familiar. They set up some tables to barricade half of the restaurant and had the Mexican TV playing in the background. All the employees that I saw all wore masks which I was glad to see. I ordered the steak and al pastor (marinated pork) tacos with onions and cilantro (which I always order whenever I try a new Mexican restaurant - I figure, if they can get the basic down, they will probably be good at other dishes too). The tacos were solid. The steak taco felt a bit dry (which was ok with the hot sauce) and the al pastor could be a bit more flavorful. I also ordered their steak burrito suizo, which turned out to be one of the most satisfying burrito suizo I have ever had. I asked for the burrito suizo thinking it would be the red sauce with cheese on top but the staff asked which sauce I wanted. I asked him which is the best and he recommended the mole sauce. This mole is incredible. The sweetness surprised me at first but once I took a bite of the burrito with the sauce, it was amazing. All in all, Los Huaraches is a good take-out restaurant and I would definitely come back for some more burrito suizo again. read more

Wow... must be people with poor taste leaving good reviews for this people because they suck! No taste, expensive and rude. Salsas are flavorless and watery plus the cheap guy doesn't give you any you have to ask and hope to get one or two. The dining area is shut due to Covid and that's a good thing because it's ugly and dirty. The guy at the counter is a complete a hole. There was a guy in there waiting for a while for his order, we got there and waiting inside as well we all had masks. Well when the other guy left the short fat guy in charge told us to get outside and wait there. We were rather taken back since we were the only ones there. One of the best Mexican joints on the Northshore if ur looking for good and authentic Mexican food. It's a little easy to miss, since it's in a strip mall, but it's just north of corner of Lake and Milwaukee on the north side of the strip mall. Easy parking in the parking lot. the customers were mostly hispanic, so i take that to be a good sign :) like others have said, the dining hall (if it can be called that) is pretty small, mayyybe 6 tables or so. But the service is crazy fast, I think it took about 5-10 minutes to make our two burritos. Standard salsa and chips basket, but their salsa is pretty good. And their steak burrito is HUGE, DELICIOUS, and CHEAP! it's probably 2/3 the size of a chipotle burrito, with beans, cheese and lettuce. and it's under $5. amazing. my friend got their chicken burrito and she really liked it too. if i'm ever in the area, i will definitely be back! read more

Solid food here...The Steak Burrito was out of this world, a nice amount of heat with the red sauce and ZERO fatty bites throughout!! Also tried the pambazo and I gotta say that this thing is guilty eating from first glance. Basically it's a torta deep fried (therefore making the bread gaaaaaaareasy) with potatoes, chorizo & Mexican cheese. Extremely unique and interesting but I probably won't order it again. The wait at lunch was fairly long (about 20-25 mins). I'm looking forward to trying the Huarache when I come back! read more

We were here from out of town so I found Los Huaraches on my yelp app, since no one in our group could figure out what they wanted. All of us enjoyed our food. This place was day two in my friend's and my quest to find the Perfect Burrito. My friend told me he found this place on his way to work, but when we got there, I was surprised he even spotted it as it's really easy to miss. The food was good, I got a pork burrito and added rice to it. I liked it a lot more than the burrito at El Burrito Loco, but it got really greasy near the end of it though. My friend got the chicken burrito, and he was less than impressed by it. He thought the chicken was really dry and tasteless. Oh well, we disagree on this one, but I give the place 4 stars because the pork burrito was really tasty. Tasty, but not quite perfect. Also, the salsa they bring out to you with the chips was really good - almost as good as El Jardin in Wrigleyville, but that's for another day. read more

I left here feeling as uncomfortably full as I've been in a long time. This is definitely stick to your ribs type of food. We ordered a chorizo Huarache which was really good. The huarache was toastier than most places I've had it. Quite good. We also ordered the mexican nachos which were about what you;d expect. A bigger, tastier nachos bellgrande but with better ingredients. Last but not least was the Pambazo. I guess the best way to describe it is like a deep fried chorizo and potato torta. We could not finish it,but the bread came out pretty good fried and the potato chorizo filling was great. I ate the innards for lunch the next day.
