Food is very mediocre and quality is inconsistent. The tortilla chips are always stale, as they were today. It's a problem. The salsa that comes with the chips is very bland, no flavor at all. Decent selection of vegan options, except they disappoint. Alcohol is overpriced and the margaritas are disappointing as well. What I do appreciate: The Servers are wonderful; very friendy and attentive. The patio is great. Not enough of those in Pittsburgh and I love it. They also have the Mexican sodas in glass bottles, which I love. Overall, the management/owners need to work on the menu to try harder to make the food actually taste good, and the kitchen needs more quality control. It was raining hard when I sprinted from my car. I thought I was going to the Thai place but realized, oops this is a Mexican spot. Hey, so Mexican it is :) So can you make nachos with grilled chicken, grilled onions and melty cheese?? Close. No melty cheese. BUT refried beans, guac, jalapeños and sour cream over diced grilled chicken and shredded cheeses. Everything was fresh fresh with flavor! Bonus are the little house made sauces. Pineapple Habanero, regular red, then a yellowish hot. I'm typing and eating and just flat enjoying my Thai substitute. Added a Buenaveza lager and I'm good. 4 stars would've been 5 if the cheese has been queso instead of melty. We found ourselves in the vicinity on Taco Tuesday and decided on the treat of a new spot to us! What a lovely shop! (My camera is broken) Everything was fresh and delicious, nice drink selection, very cute bar and booth areas. Not only are there a few small tables on the street side, but an almost hidden garden covered porch in the back! Order at the counter, and they bring your hot food right to you! Has gone down hill unfortunately. So disappointing. Used to really like their food for the last few years. They changed a lot. The carne asada tacos I got today was not steak- at least not the same cut of meat as before. Tasted like stew meat/chuck. The street tacos used to come with 2 soft taco shells- each taco only came with 1 so they ripped. The chorizo quesadilla had barely any meat in it. The cheese wasnt even fully melted. I understand the rising costs of things- but don't continue to charge people the same or more money for less food- people do notice, especially long time customers. I placed an online order, coming from monroeville. When i got to the shop my order was ready on time and I decided to eat it outside, before i even opened anything i noticed what looked like burnt cheese ontop of the queso dip. When i opened the lid it was an entire dead roach in my WHITE queso dip just sitting on top of the baked cheese... Not sure how the chefs missed it but I am disgusted, asked for a refund and the lady said she didn't know how to help me and to wait for a later employee to come fix it for her. I am very dissatisfied and disgusted, turned off my mood for mexican food all together. Should've known it was gonna be bad when there wasn't a single Hispanic person behind the counter... Tried to order online for pickup, but ended up waiting 40 minutes past the listed time. The incredibly rude hostess told me and everybody else who walked in after that it would be "just 5-10 minutes". I only saw one person get their food, and the server kept snapping at him that he "called his name a million times". When I finally asked where my food was, the same man kept insisting that "he called it" and "it should be there", I can assure you I was listening to everything this man said - he never called my name. However, according to him, somebody must have stolen my order! How do you let somebody steal another order from behind the counter in your own restaurant? Perhaps I've had bad luck at this place. This is my neighborhood Mexican joint- food is alright and nothing to write home about in my opinion, but two fairly recent experiences have driven me to write this- thus past week I came in and the restaurant was open with no heat on a 20 degree day. It was freezing inside, I promptly left. Additionally, several months ago I came in one day to dine-in and I was told that the restaurant was operating on take-out only that day. Fine by me. As I waited, I walked over to the bathroom and was stopped and told I couldn't use it, I asked why and I was told that the water is down....why is your restaurant open then? Hi! Updating my review because I had 2 great experiences recently. We did a fundraiser through El Burro for my daughters school and they were super easy to work with. Also- during that visit and then again today I ordered the Vegan Flying Saucer Salad and it was super good! I really hope it stays on the menu because I will continue to come back for it. We asked if the back patio is open during winter and to our surprise it is! My husband ordered the chile relano burrito and he really liked it. We had surprisingly great burritos here recently, and can't wait to return. We got here right when they opened one weekend morning and sat out on the porch in the back which was very nice when the weather is good. We ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon and the chile relleno burrito. Both were good and the chile relleno burrito was particularly excellent. We also got a side of street corn which wasnt great, but the burritos were so good I will give them 5 stars. we also really liked the salsa options and tried some of everyone, so be sure to ask. The food here is great! The service is a little different than a normal restaurant - it's a walk up to order style, and then they bring your food to you when it's ready. We came for lunch on Sat, and we grabbed the last table available. There were about four or five tables inside, and a couple outside. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I tried the carne asada tacos. The flavor was great. The meat was slightly chewy, but maybe that's just the cut of meat. Overall we had a great time here. Tried this tiny neighborhood taco joint for lunch today, and while it didn't knock my socks off - it was pretty good. I liked the recommended shrimp tacos - 2 corn tortillas with several medium sized shrimp topped with a red cabbage slaw & aioli (can't remember what they called it). The guac & chips were ok - not great. The guac was super thick and missing those chunks of onion and bits of cilantro I love. You order at the counter and then seat yourself (most people get takeout) / though there are only a few booths and counter seating. In nicer weather, there's a cool back patio, I hear. I tried the rice, bean, and cheese burrito. The tortilla itself was nicely grilled. Still somewhat crispy, not particularly flavorful but decent. They stuffed the burrito with an adequate amount of all the stuffings, but it was majority rice. I would have preferred more beans and maybe more cheese too. The rice itself was decently well made, but not seasoned enough for my taste. Beans were good, and the cheese had a sort of plasti-y flavor but it was alright as well. Just new to the area, looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try out. My sister & her husband brought me to this quaint place on Regent Square serving up some of the greatest cuisine in authentic Mexican & offering a wonderful menu variety from meats to vegan varieties. I ordered myself a shredded beef burrito with Chips & Salsa. I was quite satisfied with the taste and quality, as their beef had the perfect blend of spice and seasoning with the cheese melted to perfection & came out at the desired tempture I expected. Their chips are fairly good but the salsa is what compliments their wonderful taste.        I was pleased with the service & restaurant interior from their motif to the stores cleanliness. My server was very very friendly & and attentive making sure my order was prepared right & our experience was an enjoyable one. This was my first time visiting this location, though I've visited the North Side multiple times over the last few years. I've had consistently good tacos from the North Side location, so I had faith that a meal from Regent Square would be of similar quality. However, the California Bowl I ordered was really disappointing. The order was for takeout, which I know is almost never as good as eat-in. However, even with some leniency for take-out, I did not expect my bowl to be cold as soon as I picked it up, at the designated pick-up time. The meat was completely cold and chewy, as were the fries. I've never ordered a bowl before but I didn't realize it would just be burrito toppings in a container - I guess I assumed there would be a base, like rice, substituted for the tortilla. I had ordered lettuce to be added, so there was some lettuce that made it kind of salad-like. I ended up throwing the bowl away because it quickly became an unappetizing mash of avocado and meat. My partner ordered the burrito version of the California and did have a good experience. His burrito was warm and stuffed with fillings. I'm not sure if my bad experience was from ordering the bowl, or due to this location, but I don't think I'll get that menu item or come here again. However, I'll confidently continue to visit the North Side El Burro for my taco needs. read more

I preordered ahead of time online which was straight foreword and easy. I got the chorizo burrito bowl. And honestly I was very disappointed. After a year + hiatus from dining out due to,...well,...you know, my wife and I went out with her cousin and husband (which also were the same people we last went out to dinner with in March 2020 incidentally). My wife and I had been to El Burro Uno several times but not in a couple years. Decided to go to El Burro Dos to take advantage of their outdoor patio. It was great. Amazing food, nice patio seating and all precautions met. The front counter employee had her mask on the whole time as did another employee who was acting as a runner for to go orders and cleaning tables in the patio. Even though all four of us are fully vaccinated, we felt very comfortable. I had a Chorizo Burrito which was amazing! My wife had Shredded Chicken Rolled Tacos which she enjoyed very much. The other couple both had Carne Asada Steak Burritos which they loved. Many margaritas were consumed. El Burro (both their locations in the Northside and Regent Square) are great. I ordered the Birria Tacos. Wish I didn't. I received the saddest excuse for Birria. Floppy uncrisped tortilla shell, almost no cheese, and the consummé may was weak. It was an overall bad package. I'm not sure if the ownership just doesn't know what birria is supposed to be like or if the cooks just got lazy and stopped putting love into their work. Either way I'm very disappointed in what I received. Surprised the star count isn't higher for this place. Some of the reviews are very meh and that was hardly my experience. I stopped in on the way back home (to Baltimore) after a lovely afternoon at the Carnegie Museum of Art. I ordered 2 carnitas tacos and carne asada fries. I actually came specifically for the fries. I'm a California girl and Cali-mex is hard to come by; carne asada fries are comfort and home. Anyway I got them to-go and then started the 4ish hour trek. I made it about 30 miles before being compelled to pull over and eat the tacos (see terrible photo of tacos in my car). I completely underestimated how long brunch from earlier would hold me over AND my own love for tacos. They were so good! The tortillas held up to the copious amounts of pork and spicy salsa piled inside. the pork was flavorful and tender. I was pleased. I made it home satisfied . . . For dinner the next day I whipped out the fries, scooped them up on a plate, nuked them low and slow before tossing them into the toaster oven to finish (see ugly delicious photo). Just plain tasty even a day later. The meat was expertly seasoned and I'm happy with the tenderness that they were able to achieve from the seemingly inexpensive cut of beef (super authentic, no one makes good tacos with filet mignon). Craving a burrito all week & this experience was very disappointing. Everything was cold, the restaurant itself was freezing which would have been if the queso and burritos ordered weren't also freezing. The queso was chunky from not being melted fully & had absolutely zero flavor. We also ordered the carne asada and pollo asada burrito. Though we asked if both come with rice and they said yes, the carne asada did not come with rice. This was actually extremely lucky because the rice in the pollo asada was not edible - it was oddly disintegrated & had zero flavor, it was so bad. We each also ordered lettuce, tomato, beans, cheese and sour cream. These were not included but they did put in avocado?? This was one of the worst restaurants I've tried in pittsburgh, should have read the other reviews. read more
