At about 6:30pm, it was pretty packed. I loved that even the busy bartenders were aware of new patrons coming in the doors. One even seated a table from behind the bar! Bonus points for service! This is a 4 1/2-star review --- leaning 5. We ordered takeout to take to some friends' BYOF wine bar, so I'll look for my 5-star experience when we return soon in person! Food: We shared some seriously awesome ceviche. I was a bit alarmed at the $16 price tag, but it was totally worth it. There's a lot of shrimp with little filler. The seafood was plump with citrusy goodness - not too "cooked" - and packed a bit of heat, which hubs & I love. The enchiladas y mole was GREAT!! I'd prefer dark meat chicken, but props for the abundance of white meat! The mole was soooooo flavorful - def some heat mixed with a great cinnamony zing. The rice & black beans were really good. The guac y chips was so fresh and flavorful. (PS - that is one weird "coffee cup" style styrofoam takeout cup for the guac! Boo!!) The tomatillo salsa was not so bueno. The food, drinks, and vibes are fantastic at Mezcal! The mango margarita was phenomenal, it had a perfect sweetness and flavor to it. I also enjoyed the mezcal mule even though I'm not a huge fan of carbonated drinks. The highlight of the meal was definitely the chipotle chicken, the rice, refried beans, and chicken mixed together amazingly and the entire dish was packed with flavor. The shrimp ceviche was also solid and quite large for the price. Finally, the churros were great, a bit sweet for me but the churro and the whipped cream go together nicely to create a joyous experience. Had a birthday dinner at this cool spot. The atmosphere is cozy/chic and there is a comfy waiting area in the front. There is a long bar with high tops in that area. We sat at a cozy table towards the back. There are interesting murals and art throughout the restaurant. Our server was quick and attentive and made sure we got drinks in for happy hour. Our group got a frozen strawberry margarita and a Jalapeño margarita as well. Several Mexican beer choices are available. Started with Nachos con Queso - fresh chips and the queso is amazing. Entrees included Pollo con Arroz, Shrimp Quesadilla and the Poblano Relleno and all were delicious. Had to have dessert which included Churros and fried ice cream with homemade whipped cream! Stopped into Mezcal & sat at bar on a busy night before a show next door at the Thunderbird. The classic margarita was mixed well & I enjoyed 2 of those. My friend got enchiladas verdes & it was 3 large enchiladas with a generous is helping a black beans and rice. I had the chicken quesadilla expecting a smaller dish, but it actually was very filling and reminded me more of a burrito than a quesadilla actually. I ordered guacamole on the side for it and the chicken was very good and flavorful. When we left the place was packed and there were people waiting to get in. I would definitely return as the food was quite tasty and we really enjoyed our margaritas as well. Service was efficient & friendly. The only drawback to Lawrenceville is finding parking! read more

We walked by Mezcal and ended up at Condado Tacos which we quickly learned was a big mistake.. so after our quick disappointment of a visit to there we came back to Mezcal and we were so glad we did! The space was so inviting and the bartender, which I believe was Megan, was stellar! She was super knowledgeable and offering suggestions and you could just tell it wasn't her first rodeo. Came here with my hubby and we decided this is one of our favorite, casual Mexican spots. Why? The ambiance is cute, but casual. In fact, it's very unassuming from the street. The food and drinks are excellent! The service was terrific, and the staff are all authentic Mexican, which is a huge plus. We got the al pastor and beef tacos which were both insanely dry and had no seasoning on them. All you could taste was onion from the topping and the corn tortilla...? The sauce on the side is spicy and just overpowering when you use it. We came to watch the Rayados vs. River Plate game, and it turned out to be way more than just a match. Fernando, the host, noticed my Sergio Pérez (F1) shirt and instantly struck up a conversation about Formula 1. That small moment set the tone for the whole evening. Fernando is easily one of the best hosts I've ever encountered, genuine, welcoming, and clearly passionate about creating a great experience. He and the bartenders even surprised us with a round of tequila shots on the house. It may have only cost the restaurant a few cents, but that kind gesture gained them loyal customers for life. We're already planning to come back--this place is quickly becoming a go-to spot for us. To top it off, we ended up chatting with an older gentleman sitting next to us at the bar, and he even bought us a round. The happy hour here is great!! The chips and queso, chips and guac, and margs were all on their happy hour menu. They even allowed me to mix flavors with my frozen margarita. The guac was very fresh. The chips were hot and they gave us more as needed. The queso was basic but everything I needed. The margaritas were strong but enjoyable. We loved the overall vibe of this restaurant--super cute bar, friendly staff, good music. It was an enjoyable bar/restaurant. This restaurant was rated a lot higher on google reviews so I was surprised to find it rated so low on Yelp. Although the prices were high, we went during happy hour and were able to eat two meals, chips and queso, and three alcoholic beverages for under $50 for two. I came in for just a little snack. I'm still not that familiar with their menu but the food seemed decent, and so did the portions. Everything also seems to be homemade. I tried their churros with whipped cream as a snack. They were surprisingly quite good. They did not have a chewy inner center, like I prefer, but still very good. The price is a bit high. but the quality seems high as well. Nicely coated in sugar. The real star was the whipped cream. It definitely seemed to be homemade, with a nice rich flavor. This makes me believe the other food items, like tacos, bowls, etc, are also freshly made. All in all, seems like a nice spot. Prices a tad high but the quality is great. Such a fun spot right in the heart of Lawrenceville! I came here last night (Friday night) on a date. We got there around 8 PM and we were able to be seated at a high top right away. We started out with some cocktails. I got the mezcal margarita and my date got the mezcal mule. Both drinks were delicious and not too sweet. For our food, we split chips and guac, pollo asado tacos, and the poblano rellano. Everything was sooo good but my favorite bite was definitely the poblano. We ended our night with a nightcap, recommend by our waitress. We both ordered La Cura, which is a warm mezcal cocktail. It was the perfect cozy drink to end the night with. Oh Mai Gerd! This is the only place you should go for Mexican food. It's local, authentic and delicious- there are a wide variety of other Mexican choices but this is the best - the service is on point. They are quick and address you with whatever you need. The chips and queso were okay, but I wish the chips were cut a bit larger. Make sure you get the stuffed churros to finish off the meal!
