Craving a burrito all week & this experience was very disappointing. Everything was cold, the restaurant itself was freezing which would have been if the queso and burritos ordered weren't also freezing. The queso was chunky from not being melted fully & had absolutely zero flavor. We also ordered the carne asada and pollo asada burrito. Though we asked if both come with rice and they said yes, the carne asada did not come with rice. This was actually extremely lucky because the rice in the pollo asada was not edible - it was oddly disintegrated & had zero flavor, it was so bad. We each also ordered lettuce, tomato, beans, cheese and sour cream. These were not included but they did put in avocado?? I ordered the Flying Saucer taco salad and the potato and cauliflower taco. The taco was disappointing. It was basically unseasoned potato and cauliflower with onion, cilantro, and lime. It ok one bite and the rest went in the trash. The Flying Saucer was better but was nothing special. What saved it was the fried tortilla shell! The remainder of the ingredients were bland in my opinion. This isn't authentic Mexican food. It's a poorly done American Mexican deal which is a step up from Taco Bell. I would give this place a zero star if I could. I haven't ate here in years because the place is always underwhelming and I'd rather go out of my way for something more authentic and better customer service like, Brassero Grill. I ate here on a whim last night after leaving the gym late and too hungry to care. I ordered 2 mahi-mahi tacos and was truly disappointed. The first taco I ate was fine but as soon as I bit into the second one I knew something was off. There was a strong fishy, sour aftertaste that could only mean one thing. The fish was bad. I've worked in enough restaurants and watched enough Kitchen Nightmares to know what I was tasting. I don't normally do this but I decided to bring it to the counter and let the employee working know, because spoiled fish could make someone very sick. The guy working looks at me with the most smug look and says, "well, you know Mahi-Mahi is fish, right?" In the most condescending tone imaginable. What a d*ckhead! Umm... excuse me Sir. To be fair, I've had El Burro before so I went in with very low expectations! However they somehow must've known and said to themselves "How can we beat those low expectations?" Let me list just a few of the ways First off this is not "Authentic" in any way. This is Cheap, Americanized, versions of what El Burro would like you to belive is a Taco, Burrito, etc. I knew this going in but really wanted something different that was close. So with regret I crossed my fingers, warned my roommate, and glanced over the menu with caution. I was told our order would only take 15 mins which is incredible because we we're both pretty hungry! And even tho I thought this to be a little fast I certainly wasn't going to question ,as they know their establishment better than me! (shout out Hunan Cafe for ALWAYS being ready in 10-15 mins and somehow still keeping the integrity of their food! ) I arrived promptly in 15 mins, waited in line about 4 mins, and drove 5 mins home... all to pull an ICE COLD Burrito out of our bag. Not Luke warm, not semi warm. But like that disgusting cold when you ordered 1 too many cheeseburgers from a fast food joint and let it sit in the car half the day and then say screw it and eat it. As if that wasn't enough already ,they forgot 1 of the 2 orders of chips we ordered. I would say they forgot 1 and a half orders but looking at size relation to the salsa, and queso that were to accompany said chips maybe we actually got extra! I decided to live a little extravagant and order guacamole. They have 2 size options small-$2.50 large- $10.00 Being as tho I'm not a family of 4 I thought a small would suffice. Boy was I wrong! I recieved a 1.5 ounce ramekin of guac. For those of you not familiar, you could probably squeeze out about 2 packs of Heinz ketchup in there n'at! The salsa rojo was basically canned tomato juice with cayenne pepper added The $8 queso and chips was a 4 oz. dish of cheese 2/3 full with a sprinkle of chorizo Salsa was same size with no chips (which were ordered) Taco wasn't correct as it didn't have everything on it Just a terrible experience overall! Look up California Taco, Las Palmos, or go buy decent tortillas and make your own tacos. Oh yeah... the tortillas are trash! It upsets me what we as Pittsburgh accept as a good corn tortilla! Has nobody ever had El Milagro... shoot go to Reyes in the strip for decent local tortilla! Any way this concludes my review for El Burro. I've been pretty disappointed with el Burro lately. The last 3 times I've grabbed food there's been an issue. Each time I ordered a California burrito with no cheese and chicken instead of carne asada. One was in person, to go, one was pick up and the other was delivery. The first time, I was given a shrimp burrito. I was glad it was shrimp because I'm not allergic and I was easily able to pick it out. The second time the two burritos ordered were mislabeled (so I took another bite of a shrimp burrito). This time, they forgot the fries and i found some avocado peel in my burrito. If there were other places to go to get a burrito, I would have switched after the 2nd mishap. At this point, I'm worried each time I take the first bite because I cannot eat cheese and I worry about how much care is being taken in preparing my order. read more

Update: It was brought to my attention that those were not actually nachos, but chilaquiles. I came back for another burrito (still pretty good), a potato taco and the real nachos. I really liked them! You could probably order just the nachos in place of burritos if you wanted to because they are large, filling, and have a ton of toppings. I like that this place has a vegan menu. The flavors of the potato taco were good and I liked the tortilla, but the texture of the potatoes themselves were a bit starchy. I would recommend changing the type of potato. Original: I had some take out and it was actually better than I thought it would be. The reviews made me very nervous, but my brother frequents this location and I thought I would give it a try. I had nachos and a bean and rice burrito. The burritos are large and filling. Not overdone with the cheese and the rice was good. The beans were a bit plain but overall it was very acceptable. The nachos were crisped and pretty oily. Unfortunately, there was a green salsa on top that made the chips very, very soggy in a short period of time. The taste overall was good, the texture grossed me out by the end because I hate soggy food. I would like to try some things from here again and see it maybe other menu items are more flavorful. Very pleased with nearly everything at El Burro. Great service (extra great, actually!), love the decor from local artist, and the food was pretty well done, as well as an entirely vegan/vegetarian menu. In the area on vacation and saw this place as a good option to feed the whole family (from vegan to carnivore). They serve perfectly sized burritos, tapas-style tacos, and even taco salads (the "flying saucer," add vegan chorizo and avocado salad, thank me later). Overall meal for 4 came to about $40 with tip so not going to break the bank. The portions were very large, in the burrito realm. My dish, the flying sauce was the perfect size too for a hungry vegan. They have sides of salsa, lots of options for all, and do a darn good job of making their customers happy. Kind of over priced for what it is. I got a set of 3 street tacos. They area OK. Nothing to write home about. 3.5 stars I love a Southern California Mexican restaurant (the owners moved from San Diego to open in Pittsburgh) and I was excited when I saw the menu for El Burro. The chips were great, and the salsas/hot sauces and tacos were good. They give you the option for hard or street tacos. I ordered a carne asada taco (which is typically hard to find in Pittsburgh) but I think they gave me a ground beef taco so I want to go back and try the carne asada as well as the California burrito. read more

Do NOT order takeout or delivery from this place! I ordered potato rolled tacos from the designated vegetarian section of their menu... I got chicken (even labeled on the container as potato... Nope!), which I couldn't eat at all due to my dietary restrictions. I also ordered a small order of guac for $2.50. Though the guac was pictured with chips, I didn't receive any... And the "small" was literally one of those one inch plastic tubs! Plus it was brown! Not even worth 50 cents let alone 2.50. HORRIBLE. Online prices are higher than actual restaurant prices* Decided to give this place a try when I came to Pittsburgh because it was very close to where I was staying. I ordered my food through Yelp for takeout order. The prices seemed reasonable as were the pictures of the food. When I was notified that my order was ready, I walked over. Immediately I saw that my food was listed as a cheaper price inside the restaurant verses what I saw on Yelp. The shrimp burrito was $9 in the store while online it was $11, and the bean burrito was $7 inside and $8 online. This is not a big difference, but the employee in the store was not able to help me fix this issue. He did not even try and just suggested that I email management. I have not heard anything back. It is dishonest to charge customers a different price through the Yelp app verses dine-in prices. That being said, the food was lackluster. The diablo shrimp burrito has absolutely no spice in it. The ingredients were quite bland and had a very one dimensional taste. I was quite disappointed by a Diablo Burrito which had no flavor. The bean and cheese burrito was generic. Nothing wrong with it, but it did not impress me. I would pass on this place and check out one of the other restaurants on the block. read more

Family detting together just minutes arriving in Pittsburgh. The kids, in-laws & all. The eggir burrito was very good, everyone enjoyed their Mexican fare. The very friendly order taker/cashier/food delivery guy was very professional, courteous and cordial brought us a variety of the tasty sauces to our table that included the mild, medium and spicy that went well with our various selections. He made sure that we had everything we needed and was warm and welcoming, a real asset to this establishment. I was however disappointed that while he provided everyone with glasses of water he failed to deliver the limes that I asked for that I wanted for my water and for topping my food. It's a big deal for me because he said he had lime, would cut it fresh and I reminded him twice. To be fair there were only one other customer inside and one person waiting in to-go order, and while he was alone out front, he was not busy or overwhelmed. The limes, the underwhelming decor, a disorganized menu on the wall and the $10 price tag for bare bones solo veggie burrito served on paper couldn't get me past a 3 star but the taste was above average. For my burrito I chose the beans & cheese and like all of the menu items it allowed me to add or remove a nice list of ingredients. Mine had pico, rice, beans, potato, lettuce, tomatoes, queso, onions, salsa verde and sour cream wrapped up & served hot in a large nicely browned tortilla. I also enjoyed their thick crisp tortilla chips with a chunky fresh guacamole and a very nicely spiced salsa that was well above average. I had a bottle of tamarind to wash it all down The interior is kinda small and very casual but could use some attention to detail with a little better lighting but it was acceptably clean with fast & courteous service. Disgusting spoiled and badly prepared food. Skip it and just order from Mad Mex, Patron, Chipotle or really anywhere else. Even GetGo makes a better burrito which is not saying much. Brown guacamole - manager told me this was normal oxidation over time and safe to eat. I prefer and expect fresh guacamole. No sides or toppings delivered for my burrito. Manager said they were inside (not the point as they were ordered as toppings!) but they were not. Just plain bad food. I was excited to try a New Mexican restaurant but am sad to say I was extremely disappointed. My husbands beer was skunked. The food really lacked any flavor. Our chips were drowned in verde salsa and mushy. Also we found an extra $7 charge on our bank statement. We left a generous cash tip and did not authorize a tip to be added. How were we charged an extra $7? It seems that a tip may have been added which was not authorized. It seems that An extra gratitude was not added but not approved. Sooooo good. I love El Burro. The burritos are so delicious, especially since they grill them after rolling them which makes a delicious crispy and warm outer shell. There are so many vegetarian and vegan options, including vegan chorizo, vegan cheese, and lots of vegetable fillings. My favorite is the vegan Chile relleno burrito which is so amazing and deserves all sorts of praise! They have a small amount of indoor seating and a beautiful back patio. read more

We sat in the backyard patio area, which was OK - chairs and tables a little wobbly, but nice enough. The restaurant itself is a little dark and dingy. We ordered chips and guacamole. Guacamole was premade, but still tasty and flavorful. The chips were very greasy. I had a veggie burrito, which was tasty, but about equal in quality to most chain Tex Mex places. One of my dining partners had a chorizo burrito and loved it. Portions were big, but we were pretty hungry and didn't end up with leftovers. All my coworkers warned me about this place, but I didn't listen to them because I wanted to give the place a try anyway. They told me the food here is tasteless but somehow spicy, and that is exactly what the chicken tacos I got were. It didn't even seem like they used salt on the food, much less seasoning of any kind. The queso tasted like bechamel sauce. My partner got some vegan options and they were similarly tasteless. If the cooks learned how to use simple seasoning, the food would be great! We placed a pickup order last night (Saturday). While the food was good, I was disappointed with the service. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were not acknowledged. There were four people having dinner, so it was not busy in the dining area. I could understand if the dining area was full, but it wasn't. Another customer had walked in, and he didn't receive a hello either. I don't mind waiting for food, but I do mind not being acknowledged. A simple hello can go a long way as far as customer service. Ordered the shredded beef burrito with chips and salsa. Ordered from DoorDash so I can't give a totally accurate review. Before tip the total was like $23 and that was with no delivery fee so I was a bit nervous spending that much on not a whole lot of food. My suspicion was calmed when the order came and the bag felt heavier than a newborn child. Value for what you pay for was definitely there. Ingredients were good, I would struggle to say they were much better than ingredients from chipotle. It was my 5 STAR 'go to' spot to have vegan tacos delivered. The food was great. However, last week my delivery of vegan tacos had meat mixed in it!! I thought maybe it was just an accident. Tonight, I had the vegan tacos delivered, another chunk of meat mixed in!! Needless to say. I can't deal with cross contamination of food. Vegan/vegetarian food needs a separate prep area. I don't think I'm willing to chance it again which is a shame since the delivery is the quickest around and food arrives hot and delish. Unfortunate.
