To begin, chips and salsa were very good. We even asked for a spicier salsa and mixed it with the regular salsa. Yummy! My husband ordered the Carne Asada. The steak was tender and cooked well. I ordered a Burrito Barecho with steak. The steak was flavored wonderfully. Margaritas were not that great. Very sweet and did not taste like they had any liquor in them at all. Tried this place again, and disappointed. Food was not fresh, obviously microwaved and the refried beans were nearly inedible. Been there a few times, they have a great menu with lots of variety. Got the Carnitas dinner tonight, was the best Carnitas I've had in years! Icing on the cake was the to-die-for pickled jalapenos on the plate. Amazing carnitas, pico with fresh hot peppers, guac, corn tortillas = absolute heaven! only thing bad I can say about this place is their parking lot is a little cramped. Omg what the hell happened to this place? I do not remember the food being this bad!!! I ordered the chimichanga and it was absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted in my life!!! I ordered beef, I'm expecting shredded beef in my chimichanga and instead I cut into ground beef.. which honestly, isn't too bad..only THIS ground beef was horribly disgusting. The beef was old.. CLEARLY it was cooked a LONG time ago , frozen, and then heated in a microwave. Not to mention, it tasted like they got some dollar store brand taco seasoning and put it in this month old ground beef. It was so awful. I will never return to this place ever again..and I most certainly will not be recommending this place to anyone. Ever. read more

I had a veggie burrito and it was too much for me to eat. The filling was unique with mushrooms and zucchini. My husband had tbe veggie fajitas. I thought the veggies were overcooked but he liked it just fine. Too much for him to eat also. We will definitely come back again. read more

I do not understand the high ratings this place gets, it is either by people that have never experienced real mexican food EVER, or they are fake reviews by the owner's family. This was the most disappointing "mexican" food I have ever experienced. I can only imagine the "chef" here learned mexican dishes from picture books, because it all LOOKED like mexican food. But that was the only relation anything mexican. The server was nice and friendly, and brought chips and salsa out quickly, but the salsa was flavorless with ZERO hint of spice, the chips seemed like they may have been good had they not been sitting out open on a counter for hours before we got them, very stale. I ordered a combo platter, Taco, Burrito, enchilada, rice and beans. Started with the Taco, the chicken was extremely soggy and flavorless, and the only other thing on the taco was lettuce. ZERO hint of anything containing any source of flavor or spice. And even with starting first, the meat was so soggy that the taco shell was already starting to fall apart soggy when i was trying to eat my "hard shell taco" I then went to the "burrito", which consisted of dried out chunks of chicken wrapped in a tortilla, and covered with SPAGHETTI sauce. That was my first hint of any seasoning in the meal, the basic italian seasonings in the store bought sauce he smothered the "burrito" in. That sauce also smothered the enchilada, which also contained zero spices of anything remotely mexican origin. The rice seemed like it might have been ok at one time, if it had been fresh I might have enjoyed it. But it had spent a great deal of time under a heat lamp, and was getting so dried out it was barely edible. The refried beans were not ever good, they were VERY clearly from a can, and even tasted like they had been reheated inside the tin can he bought them in. While it pains me to give a 1 star review with how nice and attentive the waitress was, the food on top of the fact that the place was very dirty and not cleaned in timely manor leaves me no choice. We were even seated at a table that clearly had children at it before we came, with tons of trash and food under our table. And they were VERY slow to clear other tables of dirty dishes around us, taking an exceptionally long time, as several staff seemed to wander in and out of the room, never bothering to even look to see if tables needed clearing. Coming from someone who has eaten at Mexican restaurants IN MEXICO as well as a great number of Mexican restaurants in the southern parts of US border states to Mexico, if you want a more authentic mexican food restaurant, skip this place and go down the street to Taco Bell. read more

OK, so I was more than a little dubious about El Camino Real given the one review from 12/2012...BUT, I've got to tell you that this place is AWESOME!!! I live in Chicago, which has GOOD Mexican everywhere & plenty of GREAT Mexican restaurants...so I was honestly not expecting a lot from Three Rivers, Michigan Mexican food. I was very, very pleasantly surprised -- service was great (owner's daughter :-) and the owner (Oscar) is from Cicero, IL & grew-up in Mexico for a period of time. WOW, great food! Ask for their specialties..and (if you like spicy) ask for the spicy salsa (i.e. NOT the salsa that comes out with the chips), which absolutely rocks...and be ready for a great meal. read more

Dirty and disgusting. Watched workers/owners eat food, not wash their hands then proceeding to wrap silverware. Once finally serve, the bottom of my plate was covered in sauce. Mine or from someone else's plate I have no idea. Absolutely gross. The health inspector should shut this place down. read more

This place is legit! I am out here from Chicago and we are up here hanging out with some friends on Corey lake. So when we got hungry we decided to come into town to see what's what. So my friend tells me his father and law likes this place and I snickered a little with a smart a-- comment. So we decided to go in and check it out. So I will start with the service. The girl who served us was on point. Great personality and very personable. She was very attentive to all of our needs. She got everything we asked for and came back just the right amount of times to make us comfortable. So then the food. Outstanding! I eat Mexican food at least twice a week and I very rarely find a place I like. Now understand one thing. I own 2 restaurants in Chicago and I am very critical of everything. This is the 1st time I have ever written a review and probably never would have but I was so impressed that I had too. Now here we are on our last night here and I was craving Mexican again. Choice was easy for my friend and I so we brought our friends father in law, wives and 8 children. So when we got there the lights were off and they were closed. You know how when your craving something and you can't have it? I was pissed! So there we were in the parking lot and who is sitting in the window but the owner. So after saying he was sorry they were closed through the window and then he waved me over to the door. So here's where we found this place to be even more impressive. He said come on in and make your selves at home. The owners daughter served us and his son prepared our food. We chatted it up for a minute or two with the owner which was great. So since they were already cooking for us they decided to stay open for everyone else who came to the door. Since they were cooking they kept cooking. Great for a small town Mexican restaurant. The chicken nachos are my favorite anywhere. I grew up here but live in Chicago now. My sister in law is Mexican so I'm used to authentic & I still enjoy visiting this restaurant. The decor is dated appearing almost unclean but it's worn rather than dirty. We went in just before 9pm, and there were only 1-2 other groups in there. When we sat down it too a few minutes to be helped. They took our drink orders, but yet still had not brought menus to our table. After ordering our food, they place was still empty, yet it took 30+ minutes for our did to arrive. When the food finally got there my enchilada had beef instead of the chicken I had ordered. While delivering the food the waitress took my glass of water to refill it and didn't return it for over 10 minutes. The food was ok, but the service wasn't very good. read more

Stop the horse. This is authentic mexican. We'll take me to Taco Bell. SLOW service for lunch. Fair food flavored with chili powder, cumin, onion. No authentic taste or sauces/cheeses. A good alternative to the Bell if you have time to wait 35 mins for lunch with 5 others in the restaurant. Quality doesn't need to suffer because for the only authentic mexican in town. read more

A big disappointment. I'm not fussy about Mexican food - I like it all - but not when the enchiladas are cold in the middle, and the wait staff doesn't care. I was there in the afternoon, the only customer, and my guess is that the enchiladas were pre-made and being refigerated. The waitress said she put them in the oven the usual time, but they were depressingly chilly in the center, and she just keep repeating - instead of doing anything about it - that she had warmed them the correct amount of time (ridiculous, if you think the correct amount of time for food that should be served hot is until it's hot). Probably good on a good day, but you never know when that's going to be, so fair warning. read more
